Well, seems that Takeuchi is trying to answer the complains of most critics of his saberface trend. Even if he never heard of it (but I think he did, there are some 2chan posters that had the same opinion).
Well, I never cared about the design but I am starting to think that the reason why the remake took so long was because he had to rework everything from scratch.
I never had a reason to hate people who criticized the new designs, but if this hypothesis ends being true, I might have one then.
I'm still kinda upset about the redesign. The necklace looks pretty bad tbh.

If they reworked the designs, I hope they gave Ciel back her parted bangs, because Mash has kinda usurped nuCiels design. Would be super wack to have a heroine whos basically a Mash recolor. Both their school look and combat look have the same kinda feel too.

It just looks off for some reason. I mean, I can understand the mini skirt and boots combo, but not the cross.
Probably because there is no indication in the original material that she's actually Christian, she just works for them and repeats some sermon lines. It's an image she projects out of either self-irony or possible stockholm syndrome/indoctrination. She hates vampires for throughly ruining her life, but as far as theology goes she has no horse in that race. That's why in Talk she is considering just selling Roa's knowledge out to the Clock Tower considering that the Roa deal is done.
I mean it's kind of weird because the whole point of Ciel's character is that she takes everything personally (to the point of projecting herself onto Shiki), and ideologies or labels don't really matter to her. Yet, she can be very poetic about this stuff, especially in how she talks about non-Roa vampires in Melty. It might be Eight Sacrament being all weirdos like that and rubbing onto her, but you have her dissing Nero in one line all inquisition-like and letting Sacchin go in the next.

To a degree this is a form of 'inversion impulse', one of the game's subthemes, which manifests again in the glasses. You have Jackboots and Senpai. In most other characters Jackboots is closer to the person's real character, but in Ciel's case Jackboots is something she came up with so people don't bother her and it's completely fake. I guess that makes it kind of jarring that you can see Jackboots be a thing so long after Tsukihime where there should be no need for it, especially in case of PCiel who is basically complete Jackboots.
Spot on. But for Arcueid. I just don't think the cross looks natural, unless it's relevant to the plot.

I quite like Ciel's new design. Though if they keep it while just parting the bangs that'll probably look good too.
Don't have much of an opinion on Arcueid's, only that I wish they'd kept the long skirt. Don't really mind the cross though.
