I seemed to remember that that's not his real name, but Wikipedia says it is, so... eh, I guess?

I mean, about as much as me writing my name in Japanese would be, were such a thing possible, anyway.

Oh yeah, I think the stuff explained in this lecture makes up a good portion of what makes Nasu's work tick:
This sounds like a story about Xseed?
well, the other challenge of translating TM fiction is whether the Japanese speakers are familiar with the references to other stories, popular culture, and blog posts that Nasu likes to mix in. This part isn't so much Nasu as it is asking whether the native speakers are read up on all the TM fiction, and naturally there just aren't going to be that many of those.
And tbh it's pretty hard to get Tamamo's voice right in English. I don't think I've seen an attempt I liked yet.

I was laughing because when I think about it, that image actually fits
That... Actually fits rather well.
We need this. quite! A vague recollection of one of your interesting translation tales.
Tamamo in particular I thought came out with vague references to mythology minutae. Another rather high bar for most native speakers/readers to clear.

Sometimes I read through things like this just to see what I'm missing and it makes me wish a 50 thousand year old psychic tree could just beam the collective unconscious of Japanese nerds straight into my brain so I can understand this shit
extensive research has arrived at the shocking conclusion that TM writers are, in fact, otaku
