Blake is really touchy about his relationship to/with Bec, either one of them.
It doesn't help that he's basically certifiably insane, but no one high-ranking wants to take Bec's "playmate" away.
Casualties lowered tremendously, so it was decided to "let it be...for now".
The higher-ups are wondering when Bec and/or Blake will go AWOL. Some are hoping and wishing for it.

Bec: What?~ Leave when there's so much fresh meat to play with? Oi, are you old farts going senile? Other-me still gets trainees to teach, you know?~
Nikita: Poor, miserable souls.
Blake: ...don't draw attention to us, you spoony Russian!

-Note: Nikita is the only one in Blake and Bec's peer group that goes near them voluntarily.

It's worse because Blake is actually the more vicious of the two. Bec is sadistic, yes, but she goes for keeping "prey" alive and whole.
"Static" Blake doesn't really care about keeping the target whole.

Also keep in mind: Blake is specialized in MEK design and repair. He knows where to target, bar unusual Chimera-type MEK.

Nikita was a quiet person, unlike his partners and teammates.

While Bec and Bec were rather regal and spoke well and Blake could be rather talkative and “Statice” Blake practically couldn’t shut up, he was methodic in his speech, aiming to make the most with the fewest words needed.

He was the odd man out of the three - he didn’t have any sort of insanity lurking, at least as far as he or anyone else could tell or knew.

It was most likely for that reason he was teamed up with the two, one who had a playful, sadistic streak a mile long at times and the other who was manically vicious.

Though another reason probably stemmed from his expertise in martial arts; while Ms. Mariner was proficient with a polearm or more close-combat weaponry and Mr. Rosenthal knew a little bit more than the basics of firearms, he was the only one of them that could do “truly” heavy damage with his bare hands.

Sometimes he wondered if it was because he was from Rusija and had been raised up in a military setting where people understood that MEKs were best left to the tournaments and were “fanciful tanks”, as one superior had told him.

Then again, he used a Ziz-type MEK based off a bat. He liked his fanciful tank.

He also liked being able to keep away from his team's MEKs in case they switched personalities when he was within range.

Out of the three main characters (at least atm) he's intended to be the "normal" one. Minus being on a team with crazies. XP

Rogue Ziz MEK sped across the noon-time sky while their fellows assault the grand coliseum from land and sea. Within the coliseum, Blake Rosenthal was slumped forward in the chassis of Gnoll. Feebly a hand reached up to his forehead and, even in the orange light therein, he knew it was blood.

Things had happened far too fast for him to react. Unlike Nikita and Bec, he didn’t have combat-honed reflexes. He remembered vaguely the interruption of one of the matches by an unknown Ziz MEK and chaos erupting in the stands. Military leaders bee-lined to their own MEKs and sent their troops to escort the few civilians attending in person to safety.

Then Bec decided she wanted to join the fun, wrenching Bec’s sanity away in seconds. He was dragged along with her, his questions and placates followed by a laugh or a cough. Nikita in pursuit, all three arrived to their MEKs hanger.

Bec’s father was in the hanger beside them, eyes already pinpointing his daughter’s erratic behavior. Her father called out, but Bec didn’t care. They were separated by so many inches of bullet-proof glass and that – that was when Blake’s memories came in flashes.

A huge spear of metal and crystal lanced its way between the two hangers.

All three in their MEK, lights flickering as the coliseum shook with battle.

Nikita confronting Bec on whether or not she would injure innocents.

The MEK-sized hanger door being ripped to shreds by a Gorrila-like MEK, but…one that felt wrong.

Wrong.

Gnoll was the closest one to the door for tactical reasons, but it was that coincidence that brought the Gorrila MEK’s attention onto him. Gnoll was still in the final stages of booting up. The metallic forearm was brought to bear upon Gnoll’s shoulders.

He remembered Bec saying something to him, mind addled – static. She had the Gorilla MEK constricted, slowly coiling and coiling around the MEK’s torso – aiming for a very gruesome death for whoever was piloting the simian MEK.

Then, when the enemy MEK was at its breaking point, it shattered into large shards of…crystal.

What is this? What was that?

He knew now that he had blacked out. The coliseum still rumbled and echoed with the sounds of battle outside. Besides his head, he didn’t feel much pain. Gnoll hadn’t been damaged beyond movement or battle by the enemy MEK’s strike.

He needed to find Nikita.
He needed to find Bec.

Testing out "in media res" a bit and working on "avoiding cliche without failing to understand that archetypes extend to more than just characters".
