Just lost a very tilting game against an enemy Kata that was (as most are) a)bad b)cocky c)just good enough that I couldn't do anything to stop her on my own.
Ended up sorely wishing my team had more CC... but I was first pick and Kata was last, anyway.
Maybe it just wasn't meant to be won.
EDIT Weird I would expect this thread at least to be a lot more popular

Huh. I never followed the competitive scene very closely (or at all) but I thought it was at some tournament or other.

Then again I gather there's a half-dozen of them now, so it could've been any one of them, fair enough.

Which are of dubious quality if you ask me, but hey, that's The New Lore(tm) now.

Sure, but much of the old wonkiness can be attributed to it being tongue-in-cheek or just plain zany, like Twitch being a mutated rat who lives in the sewers just because, or, you know, everything about Doctor Mundo. I know most people didn't read the Journal of Justice (which led to it eventually being phased out) but some if it was truly hilarious material.
But, much like Warhammer 40k, when a franchise based on pop culture references gets really big corporate will force you to make everything copyrightable, which generally means forcing a square peg down the round hole until the edges fall off.

Although to be fair fascist anti-magocracy Demacia doesn't really have anything to do with copyrightable IP's, just someone's misbegotten idea that in a game where you can whack people to death with pool noodles we can't have clear-cut "good" and "bad guys" (see also: the Mount Targon redesign and the new Kayle/Morgana lore).

Excusing its flaws doesn't actually make it better.
Or that pop culture references aren't as interesting or worthwhile as actual stories and being hampered by gameplay meant some changes.
Gameplay =/= lore and judging lore based off gameplay after Riot made the conscious decision to separate the two is baffling. As is claiming that there aren't any clear-cut heroes or villains when Ekko, Ezreal, Taric, Pantheon, the Void, Urgot, Singed etc exist.
I'm not judging the lore based on gameplay, I'm judging the decisions made around said lore. And yes, there was a conscious decision to make the lore more "mature", where mature in 90% of cases meant edgy (Ekko is really part of the old crop, but even so if you read his story he's basically young boy Homura).

Once and always and nevermore.
Edgy is a matter of perspective, and going by tbe examples you've given it's ignoring other lighter characters to make the argument. Ekko's stories came out after the change to separate gameplay and lore, and some of his lore was in a big update to Zaun's lore along with other Zaun champs so I don't get what you mean here.
lux is still best but neeko is cool too
also the lore seems neat, they really should make an actual story-driven game set in the universe
