Once and always and nevermore.
Seeing old posts by people you know and cringing "wow were we really like that back then?"
Remembering that indeed, you were like that and worse
Thanking God all those old forums have been nuked or mostly nuked so nobody can find those anymore...hopefully.

Also this is completely unconnected but Connect (by ClariS) has to be the most popular-yet-forgotten opening in anime.

It's the Madoka OP, it's not exactly forgotten. It's just not currently airing or part of a recent album.
<NEW FIC!> Revolution #9: Somewhere out there, there's a universe in which your mistakes and failures never happened, and all you wished for is true. How hard would you fight to make that real?

Imagine that the world is made out of love. Now imagine that it isn’t.
Imagine a story where everything goes wrong, where everyone has their back against the wall, where everyone is in pain and acting selfishly because if they don’t, they’ll die.
Imagine a story, not of good against evil, but of need against need against need, where everyone is at cross-purposes and everyone is to blame.

I see. Meanwhile, vivid undress keeps getting better and better. They should do something for Fate.
That is indeed pleasant music.

I'd say the issue is that the people who need to the most want to the least. I often think about how the fact that so much of our communication and thought-processing is played out online and in the context of websites that will probably, eventually fail. This means that not only do you have to deal with the immaterial aspect of digital communication and storage itself, but you have to deal with the whims, successes, and failures of giant corporations or people who invest their money in a project being responsible or not. Things get locked behind digital walls that become insurmountable, editing access goes away, whole websites are taken down, and while sometimes this is a reasonably... okay thing to have happen and things like the WayBack Machine exist, it is sort of sad and troubling. In spite of the fact that many thousands of pieces of parchment and ancient paper and whatever else have been destroyed or lost, there is a chance that they can be found and restored, whereas if technology and corporate interest march forward along certain paths they could take, I wonder how much stuff will just be fully lost to time. For example, while I utilize the convenience of streaming services all the time, it is extremely upsetting to me that western media has for the most part stopped being released on DVD after like the first week out of the box office, if at all. There are a lot of streaming-only things now that the corporations have seen fit to not make downloadable or available offline or in any backup format, meaning that if those corporations fail and go offline that pretty significant chunks of art, good and bad, will disappear forever.

Also, something-something, if we can't look back at where we've been, why would we grow?

I'm just being optimistic that someone's archiving all that somewhere, somehow. And really, the bulk of communications or other written material always ends up lost in time eventually. Only few things can withstand its test in any given age.

Not just writing, poetry, music, and other forms of art as well.
