Well, to try and sum up: headbangers have never been a particularly inclusive subculture - it's always been rife with sexism, homophobia, racism, and even open displays of support to Nazi-fascist beliefs -, but now there's a distinct movement by a relatively large number of fans (and sadly, a lot of formerly-critical artists, too) to try and present heavy metal as an "apolitical" art form (a contradiction in terms).

Wait, let me sum it up more: people are dumb (some deliberately), and I'm dumb enough to care.
