I don’t know about dangerous but it was definitely making the start of the lift harder than it needed to be and putting too much stress on my lower back. But the weights I’m using are still super light (for deadlifts) so it’s good I caught it now. That's exactly it, though- you can't duck around with weights, they can seriously mess you up if you use them wrong. You could easily have pulled a back muscle.
