There's like, a budding subculture of foreigners who are particular to feelings of a synthetic nostalgia incurred by 1980s anime and city pop. I think it's because of the orchestral/disco influence layered into the music. There's a guy called Van Paugam on YouTube who runs a 24 hour playlist and has created several mixes harvested from old Japanese LP's. They've grown in popularity on discogs. I'm thinking of buying a couple and adding them to my record collection.
