After seeing Ch.6 I've got a overly complicated and ridiculous theory about Raven and Qrow. The whole reincarnating souls deal with the Wizard and the Maidens here made this pop into my brain - What if Raven and Qrow kicked the bucket, but got their souls transferred to the birds? Birds as their true form now rather than human. Again dumb and highly unlikely, but the brain can develop some shit when it runs wild. :|

Ya know, I just realized that there's only been one big action sequence piece so far this volume - through chapter 7 at least, dunno if something has kicked off with 8 yet or not - and I don't really mind. The storytelling has been a bit slower, but it's been an overall blob of character development and evolution that I'm really enjoying.

The only one I can think of is Weiss v Hornets.

Yeah that's the one I thought of as well. There's also been a couple of smaller ones with Yang and the squad of bandits, but that one is more self-contained and not a terribly impactful one imo. Still, it's been fine without them. Drama and tension has been good.

So i've binge watched all of V5 on my sick day so far and here are my thoughts thus far

It's been a major step up.

After rewatching V4, i realised it was honestly the worst one hands down. The action was the worst it had been, nothing really happened plot wise aside from an exposition or two. The girls individual story arcs were handled poorly as they became sidelined to others. While Blake's plot was the best in my opinion and let others grow and alongside her, the others weren't so good with Ruby aka the supposed main becoming sidelined to Jaune who got all the dialogue and development that she should have had rather than a polarising character that splits the fandom in two with one side loving him and the other hating him.

Five has given what V4 failled to do. We're seeing character growth and development at a better level of writing compared to the previous sections. Ruby, Weiss and Yang are all interacting with each other and showing deeper levels than before, especially everything between Weiss and Yang. There's been no action but given we're seeing more and more snippets, it's clear they're saving it for the second half which is understandable but as long as they deliver, I can wait.

However my only problem is Ilia Amitola. Now she's been an excelent character up until her 'reveal' with Blake, that she (used to) have feelings for her. Now I'm glad that RWBY has an LGBT character as they've been promising that since the days of volume 1 & 2 but... they've done it in the worst way. It's not good that she's now a firm antagonist and the only rep thus far and her last speech to Blake.

"Hey back when you were with your ex, I had unrequited feelings for you that I didn't act on. Now I'm part of a plot to kill your whole family and I'm going to send you back to your emotionally and physically abusive ex who has tried to kill you on at least one occasion that we know of. But hey, it's all for the greater good."

They took every negative wlw stereotype and unloaded it all at one, just when they got my hopes up with their writing. Now unless they pull the best damn redemption arc they have i will be forever salty about this.

Well 9 was a weird episode. Felt like all of the stuff at the Belladonna manor was absolute filler that was put in there just to save for 10; would have rather waited to see all of it together in 10 but that's just me. So get 10 next week for Christmas, than will have to wait for after New Years for 11 since it won't be this week for the team's Christmas break.

Yeah, I would have liked to see all the stuff in Menagerie happen all at once instead of it being spread out throughout the episode.

This was a good episode, I just thought all those huntsman just died in battle or just didn't report back. I didn't think there was anything odd about it.

Also nice to hear that Vol. 5 is going to be 14 episodes this season, finally breaking from the traditional 12. (And for those who forgot, Vol. 1 was originally 12 episodes but many of them got cut up on the initial viewing; they're back to 12 episodes in the DVD release.)

Having caught up with season 4 and 5 over Christmas weekend,

I am impressed with how far the show has come with acting, story, animation, and choreography

Ugh. Episode 11 episode felt so listless. A huge brawl that just felt so weak. You'd think with the big heroes vs villains moment there'd be something interesting other than Wiess bunny hopping around in the background.
