As for the whole DEEBEEZEE thing, you can see it mentioned that if Black stood closer, it would be different - I got from it that Balmung could overpower Clarent up close, from that range the total power has spread and weakened, and the lightning went through(or, too much of it got through).
You can have Karna as the super strong ally that you have wtfpwned by the villian in the middle of the story, to show just how strong the villian is. If such ally is someone who would get on the reader's nerves, which Karna, let's be honest, sure could, this works even better.

Considering just how absurdly famous Vlad III is around there. I would say enough to make him a nightmare to fight for almost any servant.
Given that Black Lancer is Danik's Servant, this is all clearly a set up to make Vlad the boss Servant of the setting. Siggy will almost certainly wind up playing second fiddle, dragonblood skin be damned.
The only question I have at this point is how anyone's going to beat him. Vlad was not one to fuck around at all. He's not going to showboat his way to getting his own ass kicked like Gilgamesh did.
He's supposed to also hate the fact that people call him a vampire too. So he's probably nerfing his own abilities ala Gil nerfing his own Godhood. It was Wallachia that pretty much solidified Vlad to become known as a vampire.
