Actually, you'd be surprised to know that the kirikiri engine in F/sn and F/ha are actually rather outdated (obviously; they should be hitting over 6 years old now...).
There are a helluva lot of kirikiri games nowadays with graphics implementation like Mahou and better. I recall one where they had talking characters (as in, sprites which actually moved and talked in sync with voice acting), and proper D3D acceleration (for all the wee effects like falling snow, menu transition, that little icon which tells you to click to read the next bit of text, heck, even for the opening and ending videos etc etc), which caused havoc for those with laptops and older desktops.
My assumption is that the CPU requirements went up back in April (and this time as well??) just because of the D3D effects. Though I doubt it'll require as much raw processing power as most other games today; this ain't even being released in 720p...
Yeah. Unfortunately for most of us (well, for me at least), being just Type Moon fans and absolutely refusing anything else, we just haven't been able to experience current day kirikiri.
And if memory serves correct modern day kirikiri has better encryption measures. But I guess that depends from company to company.
