I am not optimistic about my capabilities as a master, so I pick Caster, hope he/she's competent enough to find a way to sustain him/herself without my support and has a Good or Lawful allignment for loyalty. I mean, I know Lancer was dying already by this point, but in UBW Lancer did kill Kotomine with a spear to the heart.
Yeah but look at Fate. He always hated Kotomine but he never raised a finger against him then.
That UBW moment is a problem, but I figure the contract was cut by that point or something. Kind of like when how Herakles died his ME wore off after he was defeated. But Lancer has Battle Continuation so he was able to persist even though he was a dead man by that point.

At the risk of channeling Milbunk, Unlimited Code says that this happened because Kotomine proceeded to convince him to not kill him at all. That isn't an entirely unbelievable scenario.

Watch the scene again. Lancer specifically tells him to burn a CS if he wants to live. Then he spends the entire rest of the route scheming a way to get out from under his clutches by having Caster use Rule Breaker on him, and then finishes it by killing Kotomine in the end. Doesn't sound like he was convinced of anything.

Maintaining Berserker would kill me. Having Lancer is basically asking fate to make you it's bitch. Archer can get away with abandoning their master. Saber would need a good master which I am not. Same with Rider.
Casters can take care of themselves without a master and depending on who they are and their compatability they can be very loyal.
Seemed an obvious choice to me.
It can also get you killed a la Medea's first master

Note the "Lawful or Good" part. Not gonna risk a Neutral Evil servant.
Archer did say that Rin's first command shouldn't have any effect at all and yet it nerfs him, so an specific command, even being long-lasting, probably would force him to obey, at least enough time for someone (maybe even Shirou) to stop him if he tries to kill him.

I have been avoiding this fic because of the Blazblue tag, and as a result, was able to marathon the entire thing. Noel was amazing here, especially her interactions with kirei. The fights were definetly above average, the Tokiomi V Kaynith particuraly standing out. I sincerely hope that the sequel gets written, because you have done an exelent job here.
