Thread: Fate/strange fake (Free-Range Spoilers)

  1. #7321
“How kind of you. If you can do it alone, hadn’t you better kill me here? You’d be more cer-
tain of obtaining the Grail that way.”

“Unfortunately, my wish is already granted. All that remains is to fulfill my promise with my
friend. It therefore means little to me whether you live or die.”

It would be impossible to imagine a gentler smile, and it never faltered, but its owner might
as well have said, “If the mood strikes me, I will take your life.”
He's actually another Gil, except his motivation is to have a good time with his pal and protect the environment.

I don't really grasp his character but he didn't give me the impression as simply being Gil's rival/friend when reading SF just like the passage you cited on.

Enkidu ain't really a dude either. Also, I like the other dynamics better than Gilkidu as well. I actually like seeing how Gil interacts with Tine better.

    Enkidu is a boring character

Kingu should have kept that body

Well, at least Enkidu is getting a chance in FSF.
Arjuna has some great moments with two very cool Interludes though

You can't say that about Enkidu, his Interlude is literally just an infodump

Gonna raise my hand for the Enkidu is very boring club. Then again, I find majority of SF characters boring. Why so many tsukkomi-boke relationships?

Karna written by Higashide is usually boring imo. He's always a stoic and blunt character but when Nasu writes him you get his interactions and how he cares for other characters i.e Jinako, Tamamo. I'll give Higashide that he let Karna spams eye lasers more often than not, but still he is being underused in recent works.

Tsukkomi-boke is good because it allows two different characters to bounce off each other nicely in like...a funny way.

But like...that's only what Flat, Jack & Waver, Richard & Ayaka?

Whenever I think of those manzai relationship, I get reminded of that side quest of me trying to teach 2 comedians how to act that out to save their friendship, in Yakuza 2.

God I forgot about Dumas because Orlando & Prelati came to my mind before Orlando & Dumas.

And then there's Orlando and Hansa too to a degree

None of this matters to me (in a negative way) because I love tsukkomi-boke

So much of it though is grating, and it feels like the characters just get based down to how they react the dumb, funny guy instead of proper character interactions.

Like harem anime where all of the girls interactions with the guy is just them showing him their panties and calling him b-baka.

I think that's just how Narita writes. I don't know about Baccano, but most of Durarara!! is about catching you off guard. He builds up these duos and trios with complimenting personalities, then introduces conflict between and inside the groups, leading to a final climatic moment of the arc before things settle onto their new status quo. Rinse and repeat.

It worked to great effect in Durarara!!, I don't doubt he can pull it off in this too. Things need to start moving faster and the ensemble cast needs to start interacting more with one another beyond their little bubbles. The last volume seemed to be setting up things to do this.

Vol. 4 had really heartwarming & serious moments with Flat/Jack & Waver, so like they really aren't being reduced to just straight man/funny man duo (and like nearly all of Flat's "funny" scenes are followed with Flat saying something a little unsettling). Richard & Ayaka will have more scenes in the future too.

And while not with Orlando, Dumas's interactions with John are good (or well, non-tsukkomi-boke lol)

I really think it's just the slow pace that makes them seem that way.

off the top of my head, Enkidu's characterization has been:

    - friend of nature
    - extreme hatred for ishtar
    - Gil friendship
    - regret over killing the humbaba
    - actually a flat out murder machine if he gets ordered to kill

not a bad starting point. i feel that he has just suffered from a lack of screentime and interaction / development opportunities
