/jp/ is a nice board when you know what you are doing. Since you don't don't go there, they even flame you if you create on-topic threads. WHICH TOUHOU WOULD U FUK never gets that much negative responses....
/b/ was a fun place 5 years ago when I started using 4chan (as I said, I am fucked up), but it gradually became worse and worse, and after the second fox news report it just became unbearable. The once funny attempts at fucking up peoples online lives, serving as eternal guard against internet stupidity turned into an anit-scientology hacktivist group. It's sad ;_;
/soc/ is a camwhore board, installed after /b/ became a dating website because of all the "normal" people now inhabiting it.
It's also advisable to avoid /v/.

To be honest, I only switched over to /a/ because Krautchan /b/ suffered a decline in quality and I got a permban in 2010.
The /a/ of today feels a bit like the /b/ of 2008, which is kinda cool, so I stayed there. I really don't like talking about 4chan with a nickname attached to me. People always either shout at you with memes like they are retarded or doubt your oldfag status because a kid that goes to /b/ with 12 can't be the normal person you are talking to.
Most of the kids nowadays are just parrots.

/jp/ is surprisingly hostile due to fears of them becoming like the other shitty boards. But that Aya Hirano and Artificial Academy thread only showed that give them the right conditions and they'll have a shitstorm too.
/a/ and /v/, on the other hand, is a step down from /b/. Shitstorms allday, e'eryday. No wonder they're married to each other.
