I like the idea myself, but I would need to see more. I'm guessing it would let you branch out into things your section can't innately do. Though Prestige classes aren't just hybrid stuff. Personally, I dislike the idea of dual classes being listed as something that anyone with time and effort can get (even if its hard, etc).
Students with dual classes should not be an evolution, but rather an exception born of special circumstances which, in case of PCs, should be born as a result of blind (I mean choices without OOC influence) choices they've made (+luck and other factors). For example, someone who, protecting their friend from a horde of vampires, gets bitten and undergoes a transformation into a Dead Apostle. You weren't there for a quest line to turn into a vampire, it just happened.
For some other classes, Dual Classes shouldn't even be a mechanic. Sure, you can't simply awaken Demonic Power within you, but Magecraft and its branches are universal. You shouldn't need a special badge to learn spells from someone who doesn't belong to your faction, you just need the right connections and time.
Go simple and let things flow the way it feels right. Keep Dual Classes in mind but don't simply throw a How-to Manual. If a chance presents itself, and it would prove to be an interesting development, hand one out. If not, keep it to yourself.
Dual Classes should be exceptional cases, not simply every character past midgame.
