Sakuracon 2011
Pretty short notice, but I'm wondering if any other BLers will be at this?
Both Cascade and I are going, for fairly certain.

It's that time of year again? Damn, too bad I'm swamped with work, home cleaning, and school.

If I had managed to scrounge up the money I would be going, instead I get to work all weekend.
Shit sucks man.

It was pretty cool. There was a male Saten Ruiko, a male Yuyuko, two male Reimus, more male than female Hatsune Mikus, and at least three Sabers. (None of which were terribly cute, but I appreciate them trying.)
There was a guy in a totally generic blue gakuran, but I wasn't sure if he was meant to be Shiki or someone else. I always tend to think anyone with glasses in a blue gakuran is Shiki, so I'm being cautious. There was also some Madoka cosplay; a Mami who attracted a LOT of comments at the livestreaming Nicovideo feed celebrating the new English version, complete with Charlotte plushy, an actual Charlotte cosplayer, and a Sayaka. There was a Homura too but I never saw her personally.
I like watching the cosplayers not for appreciation of the hobby or quality of cosplay but rather as a kind of popularity meter. I can see what shows are being neglected by American fans and which are unduly popular. I was pleasantly surprised to see any Madoka cosplay at all, and even a Stardriver cosplay, as in my experience most congoers are slow and don't really seem to know how to torrent, stream or surf blogs to figure out what shows are actually worth watching.
The vendors hall had a lot of great merchandise that I had trouble resisting buying. I was a bit surprised, disturbed, and impressed that there were actual dakimakura sheets and hentai doujin being sold there. I didn't think American anime fandom had a taste for that kind of extreme stuff, lol. Mostly because I've always been of the impression the vast majority of American anime fans are yaoi-loving females, which is still sort of true.
As for other stuff, there were a few interesting panels but the scheduling was really inconvenient. For instance, Jase and I spent a long time in the charity auction hoping to bid on some KnK posters, but not only did we pass up the opportunity to go to a Touhou panel, scheduled at the same time, but the auction ran over and most of the time was spent on items we didn't even care to bid on. We ended up running out of time on the last day that way. Earlier days had similar problems with scheduling as well for us; we just happened to be interested in things that happened on Friday, which we couldn't go on, and things that all happened at the same time on Sat and Sun.
I'm a big fighting game fan, so I was pretty miffed that every real fighting game (i.e. not Smash Brothers) tournament took place on Fri.
We managed to at least see an amusing panel on censorship, and a panel on shibari... a guy in a panda suit volunteered and happily got tied up in a disturbing way.

For Grape Justice!
We there too with my big sis, my twin sister (who was Mokou) and I was Renko for full week. Got a chance to meet Kotono Mitsuishi (she signed my MBAA PS2 guidebook for her and did the 'Yarareta' voice request on Q&A) and Tony Oliver (for the Power Rangers).
IMO It was more enjoyable unlike last year and blew my money on Touhou doujins/goodies and the tracepad that bought using my sis' money, I'm forever in debt with her. XD

Oh god that "yarareta." I'm so mad I missed that.
