This is the thing, though. Many, many people don't have them and don't bother to get them just for possibly managing to get a gif avatar. I suspect lots of people use Paint for doing their own avatars, if they do them at all.

If you can make a gif 200x200 in the first place, you won't have any problem resizing it.

The thing is that the lazy people aren't making avatars, they ask the actual avatar makers to make them.
And if you look at the thread you'll see the ones who actually maks avatars agree with me. Tech, for example.

Nope. It'd literally be changing a number in the config from "76800" to "102400."

Theoretically could mean that the space needed for avatars in the database could grow 25%, of course. In practice, since not everyone will hit the limit, it'd probably be more like 5-15%.

But if you disable sigs because one user uses a really stupid one, deep inside you will still know the sig is still there and ultimately that maddening feeling will eat you up from the inside and turn you into CV or kyokushi.

No sig/no avatar has never bothered me. It just means that for the most part I ignore who is posting and respond more to the substance of the post.
