Honestly, I loved the idea of the Doctor having a friend who he's meeting backwards because of all the time travel shennigans. Its such a novel idea, where each knows the other future but not their own and neither wants to ruin it for the other and mess with their past.

The idea is fun, it's just... handled poorly. I dislike River, simple as that. I have no "Doctor ships" that make me dislike the competition, nor do I think he should be uninvolved in romance so I don't dislike her on the basis of being Doc's wife.
I just straight up dislike River for her mannerisms, her implementation within the story, her convolutedness and a bunch of other minor things that all add up to "I do not like you at all."
Well, 11 did have his moments. For example, negotiating a peace between the humans and Zygons, during Day of the Doctor, by causing amnesia between both groups. Or "negotiating a peace" (loose term) between the Sontarans and Rutans by programming 2 doomsday devices, one to wipe out the Sontarans and one to wipe out the Rutans, in order to make both devices inert, during the Gunpowder Plot adventure game. Basically, being a benevolent mastermind.
So Christmas episode is out and pretty much a Doctor Who version of Inception. Plus, Clara is apparently sticking around for a while longer. I've got to say, I really enjoyed that fake goodbye they had going there for a second, where she was in her seventies. It would have been a decent send off for her. Now she'll probably get to die in some horrible way instead.

Was okay. I thought they had the balls to make Clara old and write her out of the story but no! Also, she's a VA in the English version of xenoblade (as are a lot of eastenders actors...)!
Well, again, I'd like a companion to stick around for three or more years, so I'm OK with that. I thought some of the plot was a bit awkwardly implemented, but it wasn't bad.Originally Posted by Mattias

So we've had lots of young male doctors and young female companion. Now we have old male doctor and young female companion. We need to have young doctor and old companion (sorta already done) and we need to have all those archetypes but with male and female swapped. Also we need old doctor and old companion. I can't help but think they may do doctor and companion of the same gender but that would be sexist.
They did sort of did young Doctor old companion when they did the farewell to Tennant, using Donna's Grandad as a companion. It's just that it only lasted about two hours.

Sexist, maybe - but not without precedent. The problem, of course, is that the young, female companions add the "sex appeal" to the marketing department's mind, so I expect that it's a demographic we're not likely to see the end of.

It's probably just me, but I think that this year's Christmas Special was boring.
I think dr who has been meh for a while but maybe that's just me "growing up".
No that's just it being meh for a while. This season was so nonsensical I had a hard time watching it.
I agree that the Christmas episode was pretty meh, another one of Moffat's beloved perception monsters (first sight, then memories, now dreams). Nick Frost was the saving grace of this episode tho'. Also did anyone else notice? Since one of the facehuggers successfully killed its victim that means that there's still one of them alive and running about.
If we're counting audio adventures, then the old female companion is covered with Evelyn, a 50ish woman companion to the Sixth doctor.
Yeah , I'm saying about main stream companions.
How about an Asian Doctor? So he can finally call himself Dr. Hu.
