People think they like that ending but actually they just like Lelouch declaring himself God Emperor on global television and think Madder Sky is a good song.
Geass is in the same boat as Gundam 00 -- strong first seasons that built up a lot of goodwill to be pissed away in their second seasons.

Geass is a much better series than 00.

Geass S2 had twists just to be twisty.
Season 1 of each, yeah
00 was kind of dull as it took the first few episodes finding its feet, and then the Thrones showed up, at which point season 1 was peddle to the metal for the rest of its run.

I reckon that geass is better than dark than black too at least the first season. I do think I would like the big o based on the few things I've heard about it. Then again so much anime, so little time. I've still got almost 60 episodes of jojo to go before the spring begins.
It is a well directed scene, but it is just a scene. It's a good moment in a bad story.
I like it because it ties up his character arc nicely and I enjoy sacrifice for greater good endings if they don't feel forced. And yes, it was well-directed.

Everything from like, the Kururugi Shrine onwards feels forced as fuck.
The jump from instrumentality to final solution is somewhat abrupt, that's it.

Code Geass was a mecha show that managed to do one thing interesting, and that was a main character who wasn't ace pilot anime Jesus.
He was just regular anime Jesus.
Making Char the MC and Amuro the rival was cool yes.
Suzaku being alive at all in the ending is the worst though.
I'm defending the ending not the ending arc.
I remember really liking Code Geass, but I was 14 at the time and had just watched Inuyasha and Fushigi Yuugi so I probably thought it was better than it was.
I do remember being inordinately proud of myself for seeing the ending coming.
