Chivalry of a Failed Knight was fun.

I'm tempted to give it a 3/10 at first blush, but the last few episodes really dragged the whole thing up. The lightning girl always had the best fights, the way it presented the prison sequence and the final fight were hyper-stylized in the best way, and as I've said before, I loved the way it deliberately set up and then threw out some of the most tiresome anime tropes.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It's not an incredibly intelligent, innovative series. It still looked for all sorts of reasons to get Stella naked and have her be tsun about something. But there was always *just* enough unexpected or fun to keep me clicking on the next episode. And sometimes that's all I really want. I'd watch a second season.

Glad to hear that confirmed. (I'd had it on my watchlist for a while, but I have tons of shows to finish already so it's unlikely I'll get to it anytime soon)

Sure, watch it, but don't move it too terribly far up your list of things to watch. I only circled around to it because a lot of the other anime on Hulu is stuff I've seen before or it just didn't grab me in the first place. In fact, if you're going to watch anything on Hulu, go for Death Parade. I cannot praise that show enough.

That second season's probably never happening; all of the foreshadowing for it got pulled out of the episodes for Volume 3 for a cleaner ending.

The back pain, the difficulty finding things that fit, the constant stares, etc. -- sounds like a total drag. I had never thought about any of that before. It took the magic out of the visual.

Yeah, I read up on that a bit. It sounds like the author was fine with the show being a one-and-done season that advertises the LN and manga.

Honestly I'm pretty desensitized to harems nowadays.

Not that I consume those trashy generic LN adaptations, not even the more popular ones like the previously mentioned Mahouka, but having a harem by itself doesn't bother me anymore.

The last magical high-school LN adaptation I watched was Chivalry of a Failed Knight, which as said before, was refreshingly original when it tried to, despite being completely mediocre otherwise.

When people say magical high-school anime they're mostly referring to all those with the same premise of a weak guy who is actually strong with a harem in a magical sci-fi setting. Monogatari really doesn't fit.

Besides, it's actually good.
