Zach could only listen as Mashta spoke, of how her home even before this war was in turmoil, of how humanity would still continue fighting, of how the path he had chosen would lead to despair if nothing else. He had no response to this...after all, it wasn't like what Mashta had said was wrong but to him neither was it right. If they ended the war, wouldn't it at least be one step in the right direction? Or maybe it wouldn't and simply more fighting would occur and as she said, human suffering would simply continue?

    Maybe that was true.

But he couldn't give up simply because of that, could he?

    He had made his choice.

He would not allow those around him to be hurt again.

“I hope you see it. It is… beautiful, but in a different way from the colonies. There is really nothing quite like the wide open sky in the colonies.” She flashed Zach another kind smile.”If you ever happen to go to Porto Alere, I would love to show you around. The..”

Before she could finish, she was cut off by the school bell. Even so, Zach returned the smile back to her with a nod before getting up from his seat. Unsurprisingly, as soon as the bell had rung the students had already begun talking among themselves while the professor handed out the usual homework. If Zach had any questions for the professor though, he doubt he was going to ask them now with how many students had flocked to him by now. Seemed like it was time to head to the next period, Professor Cruz's class...admittedly one of the less popular ones with how the man held rules in such high regard and in turn little flexibility when it came to them.

Leaving class, he soon joined up with Stevie, Takuto and Mashta.

"Cruz's class is next, maybe we'll see those two there?"

The two he was referring to of course was Riley and Freira, the two of them hadn't returned yet so there was the chance they could have made their way to the next class. Well Riley at least, there was a better chance for Freira to be ditching class.

The uneventful walk to the next class was only livened up by a rare sight. Three Alliance soldier being escorted by an armed guard, complete unknowns and the ranks on their uniforms threw away any thought that they might have been high-ranking individuals in Zach's mind. Taking another glance at the three, he was sure he had never seen them around the base before. Then again, it wasn't really any of their business so why bother...not that that would stop the eventual storm of rumors.

Turning around the corner however, Zach heard a voice, echoing down the hallway from where the armed escort were leading the soldiers.

"Haah, man looks like you guys got it tough over here, huh?"

His eyes widened as he heard those words from the distance.

It was impossible. He had to have been hearing things.

He stopped in his tracks, it couldn't have been could it?

“Lets get this over with! Kill any Alliance scum you find but make sure the target is safe!”"
    That voice...that voice...

Bodies littered the floor he walked on, many of them people he once called friend but now nothing more then another casualty of war. Among all this stood the giant that continued to broadcast it's message over and over as it tore the world down around it, there was no safe sanctuary as the soldiers continued to scour the area. He could only run and hide as the soldiers continued like a wave of death. What they were looking for he did not know, what they were doing here he did not know, this was the harsh reality of war as he continued his fight to survive. There was one last place, there he would gain some form of answer or so he thought.

There was no answer, only more questions as a gunshot ringed in his ears.

And then he was back, standing there in the corridor as the other three continued moving on. Leaning against the wall and breathing heavily, shaking his head as he tried to regain his composure.

"Guys, you go ahead. I'm not feeling too well."

Turning his back to them, Zach gave a wave before continuing on.

"I'm just going to head to the nurse's office."

And with that, he headed back around the corner, back to where the armed escort was heading.

He couldn't say he knew it was 'him' but he also couldn't say he was just hearing things.

He was not going to take the chance. He wouldn't let it happen again. He would not let the people around him die again.

Making another turn he finally saw them, the armed escort and the three unknown soldiers. He still wasn't sure yet about what he had heard, it was still impossible to believe...that one of those three was the same person who gave those orders, who slaughtered his friends and who destroyed his world. He had to make sure about it before he did anything. More students passed by him as he leaned back on the wall, the hallway he had followed them into was now nearly completely empty. All that was left was a few students lagging behind the rest as they headed to class, he leaned over catching a glance at the three once more though making sure he stayed out of sight.

    I have to make sure.

With that thought, he moved around the corner. He had to get them to talk somehow, even if it was just a a single word as long as he could make sure it and put his mind at ease.

"Hey! Are you guys the new instructors?"

He called out to them, hoping that they'd respond. After all, it was obvious that they weren't instructors but this would have to get something out of them. Hopefully the guards will just take him as another student trying to dispel some rumors.

    Riley Guarstein
    Nova Calendus - Simulator Room

"Honestly, I shouldn't be surprised that you lived through that," Riley said, even as the rocks continued to tumble into the canyon.

Freira had the survivability of a cockroach... not that Riley would ever make the comparison out loud. Sure, there were a couple of similarities; she was tough to kill and always scurried to safety whenever somebody tried. However, the simple truth was that a cockroach could never do something as outrageous as destroy a canyon like Freira did. Simulation or not, Freira just had a knack for wrecking things.

That, however, left him with a big problem. He would need to clear out the rubble that now blocked out the path of the convoy - but first he would need to clear out Freira. It was easier said then done; both of them no longer had any working weapons outside of the guardians themselves, but even with one arm taken away he didn't want a direct confrontation with her if he could help it. His first strike would be the most important. Running up and trying to punch her simply wouldn't do.

In that case... all he could do was attempt that. Mind you, it was the sort of thing that was better left done by the like of Stevie - but this was a simulation. It was the perfect time to experiment.

Riley ordered the convoy to stop, determined to at least prevent it from simply driving over to Freira's location. At the same time, he maneuvered along the the top of the canyon wall, until he was parallel to Freira.

Frei could expose herself and head towards the convoy's location, or she could stay where she was in the hopes of baiting him into an attack. Either way, he needed the time to process the calculations through the operating system, especially since he still wasn't familiar with it himself.

"So, what will you do now?" he asked, even as he typed away at his keyboard. "Honestly, if I didn't know better, it's like you want to spend spend several hours alone with me. Was Satoyama right - are you really just a tsundere after all?"

"Hey! Are you guys the new instructors?"
One of the guards turned around and gave Zach a rather searching look. It was obvious that they considered his return to be somewhat fishy. However seeing your identification tag and class markings, the guards visibly relaxed. What the guards of Nova Calendus ended up usually doing through the days was playing cards and breaking up student fights, so it was obvious that this specific assignment of theirs set them off on the edge a bit more then usual.

“No, no. These guys are ju..!”

A spray of blood hit Zach’s clean uniform.

The man in front of you was cleaved straight into two perfect parts, causing blood to spray about everywhere.

    A moment of mute shock.

    Then everyone exploded into action.

The soldiers surrounding the three moved to raise their rifles and fire on the new assailant. Scattered almost panicked, gunfire echoed in the hallway. However, the five were clearly quite shaken from the gruesome death of their compatriot. In addition, the relatively narrow corridor and close proximity to their targets also played to the advantage of their assailant, who could wield his close combat weapon far more quickly then they could fully react to.

    “You...you bastaaaaard!”

    Slash.

The blade cut through one of the guards wrists, causing his rifle to fall to the ground and tumble away, along with his severed hands. A second strike cleaved through the poor man’s ribcage as if it didn't even exist.

    Slash.

One of the rifles was cut through like paper, as the attack continued to bisect the soldier head into two perpendicular parts.

    "No, no, no. Please don....ghaaaah!

Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash.

It was as if a scene out of a macabre fairy tale.

Neatly, almost perfectly, severed body and rifle parts were strewn all over the previously pristine white hallway, covering everything with a coat of red and other vital fluids. A scene truly out of hell. The metallic stench of blood was almost overpowering to the point of nausea. None of the soldiers assigned to guard the three members from the Orinoco remained alive. In an ironic twist, there was hardly nary a stain of blood on the three, even though everything else seemed tainted by splashes of red.

A bloodthirsty grin was on the face of the white haired swordsman.

"Alright, don't waste time, take what you need and let's move!"

In the time between boarding the freighter and arriving at the boarder of Academy's sensor range William's feeling of dread had only increased until it gripped his heart nearly as tightly as he held onto the arm rests of his seat. The perceived feeling of helplessness was a reason he hated infiltration missions in general; having to sit on his hands and wait until the Alliance decided they were friendly did nothing to calm him. This was why he preferred being in a fighter; he may be getting shot at, but at least he could maneuver and shot back.

“Incoming vessel, you have entered Trilateral Alliance space. Please state your purpose and identification code, or we will be forced to open fire.”
His breath hitched as the Alliance Operator's voice came over the brigde's intercom, and he tried to calm himself by thinking of nice, peaceful things. Like not getting spaced because of the Captain's half-baked plan. William swore that if he ended up dying because of this he would find a way come back from beyond the grave to haunt her... probably by doing things like stealing her ID tags and scratching her cabin's walls while she was trying to sleep. He would be a very petty poltergeist, but until then all he could do while the Orinoco's captain gave their forged credentials was hold his breath and pray that everything went as planned.

“Credentials authenticated and validation complete. You are cleared for landing into the Hangar Bay 4, Orinoco. A ranking officer will be there to meet you and go over the details of your mission. Meanwhile, we will dispatch GUARDIANS to your last location to collaborate your story.”
William gave out a sigh in relief and slumped back into his chair as his nervousness finally began to ease away. He couldn't believe that they actually bought it, though William could help but frown in distaste. It was fortunate for them as it made their mission easier, but just letting an unscheduled ship come in and dock without so much as an inspection was sloppy beyond measure.

Had he been in command he would've had the Orinoro boarded by base security and conducted a thorough search of the ship before it was allowed to dock; after all in space you have never be of careful when it comes to security, all it would take is one smuggled bomb to gut even a battleship from the inside.

But the failings of this academy's security was not his concern, and William intended to use it to leverage whatever advantage he could from it; so after the Orinoro had been docked and secured to Nova Calendus he took his provided uniform and credentials before following behind "Lieutenant Thompson" and his other companions to the Academy's docking bay. Upon arrival we were greeted by a rather stunning redheaded female officer and her six guards.

After a short conversation between the two lieutenants the three of them were lead down the long winding corridors of the station to the supposed recreation room, while they moved to a different part of the base for a debriefing. It was during this time that William decided to keep quiet in favor of chatting up the guards, as Wakahisa seemed to be doing a fine job of that himself, and study the Academy instead. It had a very crisp, clean feel that reminded him of home, right down to the somewhat stale taste of recycled air.

"Hey! Are you guys the new instructors?"
The sound of a new voice caused William's head to snap to the source of the noise as his hand drifted to the inside of his uniform's coat, but relaxed once he only saw a curious student. Well the Lieutenant had said that the Academy's rarely got visitors so he guessed it was to be expected that they would eventually be questioned by curious students. He turned to face the student and respond.

    "No, actually we-"

“No, no. These guys are ju..!”

A spray of blood hit Zach’s clean uniform.

The man in front of you was cleaved straight into two perfect parts, causing blood to spray about everywhere.
WAKAHISA, YOU GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!. YOU DID NOT JUST KILL OUR ESCORTS AND BLOW OUR CLOVER!

Unfortunately, despite William's incredibly eloquent observation of his situation he was still now in the middle of a firefight, getting shot at, because Wakahisa couldn't keep his knife in his pants.

William was rather understandably upset, and the fact that he couldn't get his gun out of its holster because of how damn stiff the shoulder pads on these uniforms were only made his frustration worse.

    Seriously. Fuck you, Wakahisa.

By the time William was able to free his pistol all the guards were dead, hacked to pieces by a single man. Now only the three infiltrators, plus one student remained alive in the hall. William still couldn't believe what had just happened, preferably they were just supposed to hack the station's mainframe and steal the prototypes in the confusion caused by the attack. That would've kept casualties to a minimum, but this threw that plan out of the window.

At best we have a few minutes before security comes to swarm us, less if that kid warms them. We need as much time as possible if we're going to have a chance in hell of coming out of this alive.

This cold, hard logic did little to relieve the sense of grief that was starting to overcome him. He hated what he was about to do, and would hate himself even more for committing to the action without some much as a hesitation, but it needed to be done.

William leveled his pistol at the unlucky student and opened fire.

He'd just finished detailing another escapade of his to Takuto, interrupting at points to tie various bandaging techniques, (most of which he'd either used himself, or woken up to have them tied on while he's lying in a bed) when the bell rang for the end of the period, he frowned. He was just getting to the good part, too.

Oh well. The four of them, the burgeoning soap opera and the disinterested killer for hire, packed up their things and began moving through the halls proper, Stevie was probably going to zone out a bit in the next class, Solar Geography never held much interest, he was a more practical focused person.

They passed by a group of three soldiers, surrounded by a cadre of armed guards, some kind of escort? Stevie didn't recognize any of them, and only one of them was an officer, so unless he was particularly snooty, this was more than a bit fishy.

Feeling a bit thirsty, Stevie swayed towards a nearby water fountain, ears overhearing a voice from what he assumed was one of the three soldiers in the group.

"Haah, man looks like you guys got it tough over here, huh?"

Now, that normally would be a completely innocuous statement, but out of the corner of his eye he saw Zach stop dead. He bent over the fountain, sipping at the water that came out.

Ayers leaned up against a wall, breathing heavily, shaking his head, he spoke up, a bit shakily: "Guys, you go ahead. I'm not feeling too well." He turned and gave a brief wave, face pale, "I'm just going to head to the nurse's office."

    Uh huh, sure you are.

Stevie lifted a hand from the fountain and gave a jaunty wave, dismissing him. But as Zach turned away, Stevie straightened up, wiping his mouth as he did so. His instincts told him that Zach knew something, and judging by his face, it wasn't anything good. Stevie turned back down the hallway, jerking his head at the figure that had just turned the corner, silently pacing down the hallway a couple dozen steps behind him, moving briskly down the hall as Zach stepped around the corner, calling out to what Stevie assumed was the group.

"Hey! Are you guys the new instructors?"

A brief pause, then an older voice replied, "No, no. These guys are ju-!"

    Blood spattered across the floor.

    Fuck.

Panic erupted in the hallway, shouting, gunshots, more blood shooting everywhere, boy this is escalating quickly.

Whoever is going on the kill-spree in the hall is good, very good, not quite as good as me, though.

The clatter of metal and the sounds of the slaughter within the hall slowly began to die down as I reached into my jacket and produced a long, white scarf.

'The hell? You can't use a scarf to fight people! That's dumb!'

'Foolish disciple! Just watch and learn.'

Stevie tightened the scarf in his hands, remembering the old steps, he couldn't quite pull off the stupid shit his sensei had; but he was good enough.

The length of cloth flashed out across the hall, wrapping around Zach's leg as Stevie pulled, sliding his compatriot across the floor and out of the blood-drenched hall.

Just in the nick of time, too, considering the bullets that flew right over his head.

Someone had called out to the group, a student of the academy by the sounds of the question. The group had stopped, it didn't seem the guards had expected someone around here and were now distracted by the student's presence. As the guards turned to face the wayward student, Takeshi stole a glance from the map he was given back on the ship. Pulling the device out enough so that he could get a good look without catching the guard's attention his eyes narrowed as he realized that there was a problem with their current route.

It seemed that if they continued down towards the recreation rooms they would be moving further away from their target rather than closer. Stealth was an important element in this mission, however they were already pressed for time and an unneeded stop like this one would only hinder them further. Once the battle began they would only have a limited amount of time before they had to be off the station and back on the Ark Royal. After all, who could say if the Ark Royal would be able to maintain a constant assault on the station or, worse yet, they chose to destroy the entire station and the infiltration team along with it.

Certainly there was the chance that the alarms would be tripped earlier than expected, but then who could say whether they'd realize it before the attack had begun. Regardless of this, when the attack did begin then the alarms would be blaring anyways due to the assault by the Ark Royal. This would occupy command's full attention, people would be rushing everywhere in order to launch a counterattack to the ship and keep the students here safe, too busy to examine every face and uniform that passed by. Yes, a couple of soldiers like them running around when the assault began wouldn't be odd at all, if anything it would only seem natural with the ensuing chaos.

Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly, the guards were now distracted which meant that the risk that they had posed to the lives of Takeshi's comrades had lessened. Perhaps not considerably, but if they reacted as they should in a situation like this, they would get out of this alive. The chance that the guards would be distracted again seemed unlikely, indeed, that fact combined with everything else meant that attacking them now was a far more valid option then it had been a moment ago.

As he pocketed the map, he looked up to see who had called out to them. For some reason he suddenly felt a feeling of deja vu. That student...he seemed familiar for some reason. Why though? Takeshi simply couldn't say, a cadet from the attack he led before? Impossible, he had killed all of the ones he met and he doubted he knew anyone that defected to the Alliance, anyone his age at least. Shaking his head, he cleared his thoughts, now wasn't the time for digging through the past, now was the time to focus on the mission.

Once again, Takeshi reached into his pocket, however rather than slightly pulling out the map, this time he pulled out a small rectangular cube, black in color with seemingly no openings. He couldn't help but feel more and more excited, after all it was five guards against him and just this pocket knife. Well perhaps he wasn't give the blade the credit it was due, the Single Edge Monofilament Blade, they had called it on the ship, barely noticeable even when extended, yet could cut through most materials like a knife through butter, the exposed soldiers would pose no problem.

In an instant, the blade had extended out of the hilt reflecting the image of his first target. In one swift motion, he had already closed whatever distance between himself the soldier and slashed/stabbed at the soldier, switching to the next without even seeing the result of his handiwork. He intended to end each of their lives with nothing more than one strike and with as little blood as possible, on the them anyways, after all clothes drenched in blood tended to stand out, even on a panicked station. However even still, he couldn't help but grin as he did what he did best.

One. Two. Three. Four. And that's Five!

With each number, a guard fell until finally they were nothing more than stray body parts on the floor, the entire hall completely drenched in blood. Even though he had tried his best to prevent any blood from staining their clothes, he couldn't help but find it funny that he actually achieved that goal. It was unfortunate that some of the guns carried by the guards had also been destroyed, but some were still usable at least.

"Alright, don't waste time, take what you need and let's move!"

With that, Takeshi moved to take one of the still usable guns off the floor, assuming the rest of his allies would follow suit and then they'd make a run for the mainframe, hopefully reaching it before the attack commenced. Unfortunately, one of his teammates felt that dealing with the student was worth more of his time then actually getting to their mission objective. Certainly the student had seen them, but then how long would it take for him to inform the ones in charge as to what happened? Hell why would they even believe him until they saw the scene for themselves, and by the time that happened the infiltration team would have been close to the mainframe, if not already at it.

"Hah, you missed! Now he's behind that corner again, if he's smart he'll have already started running back to where he came from!"

    Single Edge Monofilament Blade

A foldable blade with an extremely sharp edge, barely a molecule wide, that is capable of cutting through most materials with ease. The blade itself can be stored within the handle of the blade and extended when needed. However, the blade itself is extremely thin and can break quite easily. In addition the extremely sharp edge of the blade has a tendency to wear out after extended use (causing the aforementioned breaking). These aspects have reduced the blade to something of a novelty, as they are quite expensive to make and are, in essence, feasible for only a single engagement.

Sitting in the comfort of my cockpit, hands behind my head, I wind away the time with idle thoughts and ideas until the announcement comes that clears us for launch. Realizing this means that I'm gonna have to go and do something troublesome now, my life as a student once again ends. Like it or not, once again I'm stuck playing soldier in a war that makes no sense at all.

"Jeez, man. What was I supposed to be doin' again?" Grabbing a hold of the controls, my lack of caring is made apparent, "Creatin' a distraction? ...Well I guess if I just go out there and start shootin' stuff up, I'll get somethin' right."

Laughing to myself, I take a look at the machine around me.

"Oh well. Looks like we've got another job, partner. It's a bit of a drag, I know, but at least we get to spend some more quality time together without some annoyin' midget blowin' a fuse."

Once I go over the system's status one more time, I turn on my communications channels and take another deep breath. Confirming with the big wigs that I'm ready to go, I begin the launch sequence and fly out into space as soon as I can. The sooner this whole thing is over with, the quicker I can get back to my own life.

"Alright, Q," Talking to my machine as if it were a person, I say one last thing before heading towards the operation zone, "I'm countin' on ya to see me through this. You watch my back and I'll watch yours."

Two voices began shouting back to him, one of the unknown soldiers and a guard until both were silenced by what came next. The white-haired man had made his move, with a swift movement the guard closest to Zach was cleaved in two before his eyes. Shock filled him as blood covered his white uniform, frozen by what had just happened. What had happened was unreal, it was impossible and yet it happend. Realization began setting in to him as the guards began shouting and yet mercilessly as the slaughter continued. None of them were safe as they tried to fight against thier foe, their weapons and voices being destroyed with no effort.

    What...what is...?

It was what he feared, it was happening again and he could do nothing about it.

"Alright, don't waste time, take what you need and let's move!"

It was him. It was definitely him. The man, who with his companions, was unblemished and pristine in comparison to the scene around him, the same man who had destroyed 'Initium Novum'.

And again he couldn't do anything to stop him, again he was powerless.

The other one, the one who had replied before pulled out a weapon of his own. He had to move and yet he couldn't. He willed his body to move but nothing came of it, he had to move otherwise he would die.

    I...I can't die here!

And still he stood there, still in disbelief as the man aimed his weapon at him. The trigger was about to be pulled, this would be his end, everything he said only moments ago would only prove to be nothing as soon as the bullet left the chamber.

And yet in that single moment before the trigger was pulled, Zach hit the floor. The boy did not stop there as what seemed to be a scarf that had wrapped around his leg pulled him back, almost miraculously avoiding all the shots that the gunman had fired. As the bullets raced past him, he was dragged around the corner, only now did he know who was to thank for the timely save: Stevie St. Angelo. It seemed the larger man hadn't listened to his not-extremely-convincing lie and had followed him, if he was in the right state of mind he would be thankful for that but rather the scene of what just happened replayed in his head.

    Why?

"I said let's go, we don't have time to be playing with some kid!"

Another command was barked by 'him'.

    I...have to stop them!

The thought raced through Zach's mind, only now did he look to Stevie. A mix of gratitude and lingering shock was painted on his face before he slowly came back to his senses, he couldn't leave himself like that, he couldn't simply stand by as the people around him died again. He gave the bigger man a nod.

"...Thanks," He said as he finally managed to put words together, "I...I don't know what happened."

There was little time to think now though, how many more would die...how many more would die because he was unable to do anything.

    "We have to do something."

His throat was dry as he spoke, it was obvious what he had just seen had affected him and yet, as illogical as it seemed to be, he said this to Stevie. They outnumbered the two of them and now had weaponry and yet he asked for something so impossible. Using the wall as support, he finally stood up from the ground. There was no time to waste, the academy was in danger, they had to act.

I will protect Nova Calendus. I will stop them.

    Commander Kang Taehwan (Ensign Zabi)
    Date: 13 April 29 SE

The soldiers were dispatched, but the kid somehow escaped his subordinate's gunshot. Shrugging, Kang took up a rifle from one of the dead soldiers, slapping off any bloodstains. As he picked the gun up, Kang looked for something to do. As Takeshi took his map out and started talking, he formulated a plan. He would have preferred a more silent route, but if it had come to this, there was no away around it.

Then there was also the case of exposed bodies, a witness left alive, and what not. Well, it couldn't be helped now. There was also the option of throwing a nade, but they were already on the move and it would be unnecessary right off the bat.

"Lets get that mainframe down, I don't think we'll have enough time to go through the prototypes and stuff...although I would really like to...heh."

Although it would have been fun to go and shuffle through the unknown technology, it could be done later. He signaled Takeshi with a gesture.

"Cut off one of those dead soldier's heads. Lets put the dead to some use, shall we?"

The situation was a bit different than the last time. Instead of being the person who had infiltrated the base and destroyed it from the inside, she was now the one indiscriminately slaughtering it from the outside. Being in Wakahisa's type of situation... left a bitter taste in her mouth. At the very least, it wasn't very pleasant.

She looked around the cockpit, taking in the familiar sight. It was rather astounding that they had even handed her a Rubicon in the first place.

Well, no matter. She was here to prove that she could, in fact, obey orders.

    "Sylvia Hanaika, Alloro, launching."

Once all three of the Rubicons were done being launched, Jin examined the map of the situation… and smirked.

One could say that the Captain of the Ark Royal was finally ‘home’, on her territory, where she could feel at ease: not when trying to convince a bunch of brats to follow a strategy, or hearing out the complaints their ubiquitous entitlement complex would make them spout, but rather, when commanding her own vessel and troops into battle. This was where she always had shinned through.

“Let’s see… I bet that right now the enemy must be still too surprised and flabbergasted to react in an orderly or capable manner… so we should maximize the damage done and advantage gained in the very first few moments, then.”

A cold glint appeared in Jin’s eyes as she calmly blew another bubble, producing a noise that resounded through the whole bridge. Anyone that looked at the eyes of the 17 year old girl would, without exception, feel a chill go down their spines.

“Fire our Laevateinn at the weapons platform to the right of Nova Calendus. We’ll give them a taste of what they are to expect if they oppose us.” The order was issued with absolute mercilessness.

Class was... interesting to say the least. While all of the stories, Stevie told me dealt with blood loss and various ways people can cause a person to start bleeding. My only concern was the fact that about three-quarters of the stories involved a guy getting stabbed after hitting on a girl or more specifically someone's imouto. Surely he must have made up most of them right?!? I mean how can one guy know (or knew) roughly ten people getting stabbed by an imouto!

Thankfully, I'm released from another 'sister stabs guy and he bleeds a lot' story by the bell. Even though I've seen worse wounds from the simulator, those stories scare the hell out of me for some unknown inexplicable reason. Stevie and I leave the classroom and inadvertently walking with Zach and Mashta to head to our next class which is-

"Cruz's class is next, maybe we'll see those two there?"
Right Cruz-sensei's class. While most people dislike Cruz-sensei for his strict adherence to the rules, even I can't say I like Cruz-sensei. I think it's mostly due to the fact that he's very inflexible especially when you need a flexible solution. For example, let's take our absent iinchou's tendency to be always absent. The person who typically knows where Freira is at is Mashta. Instead of asking Mashta where her sister is, Cruz asks Nova Calendus's security to find her and then asks for her retrieval. Typically, Freira notices the security camera looking at her directly and she disappears to her next hiding spot before the morals committee can drag her back to class. Speaking of which Freira's attendence in Cruz-sensei's class is roughly around five times if I remember correctly.

"Haah, man looks like you guys got it tough over here, huh?"
I heard that voice come from the hallway nearby? I was about to dismiss it when I saw Zach just stop moving and his eyes started to dilate. Whatever is happening to Zach is NOT good. Especially if hearing some words causes you to lean to the wall for support and leave you breathless.

"Guys, you go ahead. I'm not feeling too well."
Zach then suddenly turned his back and left us before we could say anything.

"I'm just going to head to the nurse's office."
I didn't even get a chance to say anything before he left. The nurse's office is the last place you're planning on going to aren't you Zach! I don't know if those other two saw it but I saw you resolve to do... something. I don't know what you've resolved to do but whatever it is! I'm not going to let you go alone in that kind of state!

"Stevie. Mashta. I don't know about you but I think we need to make sure Zach is alright-”

"Hey! Are you guys the new instructors?"

“No, no. These guys are ju..!”
I barely manage to hear the sound of knife being pulled out while Zach greeted someone. Soon after I heard the knife being drawn, I heard a wet splat. Could that be a blood splash?!?

    “You...you bastaaaaard!”

    "No, no, no. Please don....ghaaaah!"

"Alright, don't waste time, take what you need and let's move!"
I would have said this escalated quickly but I guess I had a small suspicion that it was going to happen. Now how to save Zach from... Why is Stevie waving around his scarf? After I finished thinking that Stevie grabs Zach with his scarf by the ankle to avoid the gunfire by one of the unknown assailants. I grab Mashta and move her further in and away from the corner just in case.

After the gunfire stops, I see Zach pull himself off the floor. He seems to be fine thanks to Stevie’s quick scarf pull.

"...Thanks," He said as he finally managed to put words together, "I...I don't know what happened."

    "- mainframe - time - prototypes"

    "We have to do something."
Something got mixed up while Zach was talking. Mainframe? Time? Prototypes? That look of resolution, it’s still there despite his brief dance with death. What was it that caused you to be this resolved? I’m sure half of our fellow students would be catatonic at seeing the security team getting killed right in front of them but you Zach Ayers. You seem like you’ve seen death occur right in front of you too many times to not do anything.

“So what’s the plan? Hunt down the infiltrators? If that’s the case, I thought I heard one of them mention something about them heading to Nova Calendus's mainframe? We aren't going to get far without any weapons or help you know."

“Lieutenant! We have an EAU Cruiser and seven Mobile Suits on approach vector! Database matches them to EAUN “Ark Royal”, 5 Valkyries and 2 Rubicons! Alloro and Quercia!

“Aiyaaah, how bold. They move faster then anticipated. I guess their commanding officer hasn’t got that much faith that their team on this end can handle themselves.”

“They just waltz into here with no attempt to hide themselves. Not that they would really need to be subtle with those monsters at their beck and call.”

The crimson haired officer was looking at the tactical map displayed on the screen with a playful grin. This battle was undoubtedly to the disadvantage of the Alliance, based on the resources she had available at the moment. Sure they had an advantage in gross fire-power and numbers, but those Rubicons were worth at least a dozen GUARDIANs at least. More most likely. And if they were serious… Well, at least they had some things going for them. The enemy tactician seemed to leverage their advantage by trying to stick together and focus their fire-power on a single point. Most likely against the weapon platforms they were directly heading towards.

    If that was the case….

“Raise the Alert Level to Red. Staff is to guide all students to the life pods. Research labs are to be fully cleaned up. Emergency protocols! I want every GUARDIAN launched on the double! Teams of 5, restrainment strategy and stay away from the platforms. Make sure everyone has the latest sensory maps. Tell them to use the asteroid field as cover and to delay them as much as possible. Funnel energy into the SIGMA-2 and get the umbrellas into position for the stream alignment. Wait for my command, we need a proper opening.”

Really. Bringing a bunch of Rubicons into the distant hell-hole that was the Asteroid Field (especially this part of it), was a truly a brazen move. Her hat was off to whoever came up with the idea amongst the EAUN brass. It was undeniably overkill though… almost to the point where she was starting to get slightly suspicious. Could it be that the Union had far better intel about their actions then they thought? Information about Nova Calendus was bound to leak anyway, but the expectation was that the force would be a small investigation craft at best. Well, they were quite lucky on the timing at least.

In fact, this might prove to be a useful opportunity in the long run.

“Get the New York ready for launch. Would someone get me the locations of our “candidates”?”

The male sub-officer manning the communications and surveillance gave a sharp nod towards Ling, before typing in the needed lines of code.

“Three are headed this way. Two are with Lt. Commander Cinque in the Sim Room.”

“Good. Tell Cinque to grab his brats and take them to the Level 3 Hangars. He will know what to do. I’ll deal with the three coming this way myself, once they get here.”

A grin of almost childlike exuberance appeared on Chen Mei Ling’s face.

“Fire our Laevateinn at the weapons platform to the right of Nova Calendus. We’ll give them a taste of what they are to expect if they oppose us.”

The main cannon of the Ark Royal was called the Laevateinn. A gigantic cannon connected directly into the reactor of the of the battle-cruiser, Laevateinn was constructed as a test prototype by the renown Prof. Hjelmdall and his team from the Oslo Technological University. Capable of putting out a beam of destruction far surpassing the standard output typically achieved by ships of a similar class, Laevateinn was truly a weapon befitting of its mythological moniker. Unfortunately, the high level of expertise required for its maintenance and construction, meant that while successful in its goals, the prototype was not really something that could be mass produced to any reasonable degree.

That frightening weapon was now aimed at one of the defence platforms circling Nova Calendus.

“Output at 98%. Target is in range and all parameters are in order.”

    “Firing Laevateinn!”

A brief moment of coalescence, followed by a flash of brightest crimson.

Like the fist of an angry god, the burgundy red beam of destructive energy struck the weapons platform in a mighty blaze. Reinforced metal was shattered, broken and melted almost instantly as not even the combat designed platform was capable of withstanding the intense amount of destruction output by the Laevateinn. Having pierced through the platform without much difficulty, the red beam continued into the distance, lighting up a number of smaller asteroids as it passed through them. With the vast majority of the platform simply vanishing due to incredible power of the attack, the parts of the platform itself started to flow off into space.

    However…

    “Incoming en…!”

A thin streak of white light pierced through the Ark Royal’s hull as if the armor plating was not even there, causing the ship to shake violently.

Nicolette’s shocked voice echoed through the bridge.

“Im..Impossible! That didn’t even register properly on the sensors. Captain! Our left side was hit by an unknown attack, we have fires on sub-decks 4 and 5. Fenrir’s 2 and 3 have been damaged, along with Jormundgandr 3. Engine output is currently at 67% efficiency!”

This was followed by a brief shout from the distressed radar officer.

“Three teams of five Mobile Suits inbound, Captain! GUARDIANs!”

The pink haired woman turned her head towards Jin.

    “Your orders, Captain?!”

“Lieutenant! Heightened energy readings from the enemy battleship, it is going to fire its main gun!”

Protecting the right weapons platform was a lost goal.

A Rubicon on its own could destroy one of their weapons platforms. They were meant against pirate excursions, not really a full blown invasion and were built as such, mainly loaded with a variety of traditional, albeit effective, hardware. And considering the circumstances, they would lose one of the platforms before it could even pressure the opponent to some degree. However, the platforms did have one peculiarity in them. Something of an old test prototype from their other project. And it was something she would brutally abuse to at least buy themselves enough time.

“Activate the Lancer! Bring the umbrellas into alignment. Arc left at point 78!”

The right platform exploded in a blaze of red.

    There! Fire the Lancer!”

The Lancer Magnetic Projectile Acceleration System (LMPAS) was an experimental system placed on both of the orbiting weapons platforms around Nova Calendus. By creating a magnetic “tunnel” using a series of satellite umbrellas arranged in a loop formation, it would be possible to create almost a circle of perpetual acceleration. Hypothetically, the loop could be used to achieve light-speed through almost infinite acceleration of a projectile. However, it was quickly found out that there wasn’t enough power in the world to fuel the system long enough to have any sort of mass mass reach light-speed. It was, however, capable of accelerating projectiles to ludicrous levels. Specifically, extremely high durability bullets made out of a mixture of high durability carbon compounds and various alloys, that cost an almost ridiculous amount to produce. So much so, that the entire thing was scrapped as useless after millions had been sunk to create the prototype.

They had only ever managed to produce 4 bullets.

Well… they had 2 now, after losing the one on the right platform and shooting off one of the others.

By using the explosion of the platform as a makeshift cover, Ling hoped to take the Ark Royal out in one shot. Well, that obviously didn’t happen, considering that the ship still existed on her screen. No doubt one of the umbrellas was slightly out of alignment, which introduced a targeting misalignment. Another of the many, many issues with the Lancer. However, their target had been hit and, while the Lancer required a certain amount of time to re-accelerate another projectile to the point where it could be launched at the assailant, they still had 2 shots. At the very least, they had bought some time.

“Have the GUARDIANs attack the enemy vessel. Groups A and B are to engage the surrounding Rubicons. Group C is to sink the enemy vessel! D is to guard the hangars and Team is E to protect the L2!”

“Why do I still have 5 GUARDIANs sitting in the Hangar!? And will someone feed #2 into the loop and reset the cycle!”

Excitement burned in the red-haired CO’s eyes.

    Battle Phase - Episode 1 - Start

    Tactics

    European-Asiatic Union

    First Strike Doctrine
First Strike Doctrine - Jin Yeong Song - TAC A - Captain

A tactical approach based on speed, accuracy and sheer brutality, First Strike Doctrine embodies the mentality of crushing your opponent as swiftly and quickly as possible and then moving on to the next one. A perfect choice for lightning fast fights, where speed is of the key.

First action against enemy combatants of equivalent class (Mobile Suit to Mobile Suit, Battleship to Battleship) is greatly enhanced in effectiveness. Counts for every new enemy.

    Solid Speciality
Solid Speciality - Sylvia Hanaika - TAC B - Rubicon Team Leader

A mentality that considers focus to a single combat style and way of fighting paramount. As opposed to playing the jack of all trades role, this way of tactical leadership enhances sticking to one’s strong points. Attacks of the same type that follow one launched on a previous turn gain a rank up in effectiveness (only works on the highest attack stat of the Rubicon). Changing targets resets the bonus.

    Trilateral Alliance
    Synchronized Souls
Synchronized Souls - Chen Mei Ling - TAC A - Commanding Officer

A representation of well practiced fundamental tactics and high emphasis on teamwork. Rather then focusing on individual action, emphasis is placed on well oiled team tactics and support tactics. Greatly increases the effectiveness of multiple mobile suits working in a team, granting a correspondingly larger boost depending on how many active members are in a team (up to 5). Only works when the units are in close proximity.

    Battlefield Factors

    Asteroid Field
    Asteroid Field

The area surrounding Nova Calendus is filled with many asteroids, both stagnant and in motion. While these small asteroids are of relatively little risk to larger ships, they play a relatively important role in Mobile Suit engagements. Cover is plentiful and asteroids can interrupt proper aiming, reducing the effectiveness of ranged weaponry. Long range weapon damage is lowered by 2 ranks.

Can be bypassed by possessing suitable asteroid charts and calculation algorithms can reduce the effect, provided that the relevant skills exist. MEK over B reduces the downrank to a single rank.

The Lancer projectile had soared past Mel's suit - well, more over it - as he weaved his way through the asteroids. Whatever that weapon was, it'd probably take out a Rubicon in a single hit, and considering the damage he noted the Ark Royal took... maybe even a battleship. Being hit by it was a death sentence, and letting it fire another shot would probably mean the Royal's destruction. The Asteroids were playing a merry hell with his targeting too. But well, he'd taken this job. Time to pony up. He wasn't going to have Lindstrom lecturing him on MS combat tactics again.

His rifle wasn't going to do the damage he wanted. Orienting himself for a somewhat clear shot, Connors armed a missile pod, discarding the rifle into storage. Once that platform got fucked up he'd be able to finish it off with his other weapons - and start making his way back. The sensors would have to wait until he got a shot of juice in him - this excursion wasn't being too kind to his energy levels.

"Achilleos engaging platform 2." A flash communication, followed by the stealth systems shutting themselves down as Connors unloaded the missile pod right at the platform. Wakey Wakey. That GUARDIAN squad nearby was about to get a nasty surprise. Connors was going to need to run like hell after this platform went boom.

    Dimensional Pocket - Valentinianus

An ability unique to Achilleos, Valentinianus is an ability that allows Achilleos an almost unbelievable degree of versatility. By using dimensional folds, Achilleos is capable of storing immense amounts of weapons and other hardware, without actually encumbering the unit itself. Achilleos has an unlimited amount of “Standard Weapon Slots”, rather then the typical 1 allocated to every Rubicon. Only items that are of relatively limited size can be stored and no live beings can be sealed away in the folds without being instantly killed (although they are too sluggish to be used as any type of weapons though).
    JMC-R45E “Zenhansha” Refraction Mirror Field

A particle field generator on the back of the Achilleos that allows for the generation of a light bending field. As long as the EN cost is paid and no attacks are launched, Achilleos becomes invisible to the naked eye and most standard sensor arrays. Launching attacks (or being the target of a random attack) however disrupts the rather delicate balance present in the particle field, scattering them (and revealing the user). Cost - 40 EN

"Dammit-! This is exactly the kind of shit I was talking about!"

Having seen the enemy's artillery fire, it doesn't take me long to understand that we've walked right into something serious. I mean, it's only natural that the enemy have a big gun... What with all this space debris floatin' around and obstructin' our view. But noooooooo. No one wants to listen to ol' Kai. You can't possibly account for everything, they said... Damn bastards didn't even try-! Now we're practically sittin' here at the mercy of that thing. The fact that we've still got a ship at all is just dumb luck.

"Tsch! ...Hey, Tiny, I know you can hear me-!" I make a quick call to command, "Seein' how as I don't have much of a choice, I'll provide you guys with some cover. But if this shit goes any further south, don't be surprised if I start callin' audibles! I didn't sell my soul to the military, so I'll be damned if I die for you!"

Making my intentions more than clear, I go ahead and open up the Quercia's main control. Having already managed to make a rough scan of the surrounding area, it's about time that I make my move and get this show on the road.

"You just make sure you find a way to deal with that railgun of theirs!"

With that said, I get to work. With the machine having already properly downloaded the lay of the field, all that's left for me to do now is assist it with a couple of adjustments. Granted, doing advanced calculations and information processing under pressure isn't something I care to do, there are few things I value more than my own life, so I'll use that as the extra push I need. The OS command sprawled out before me, I crack my fingers and get down to it.

"Adjusting OS for obstructed combat... Space battle settings set and adjusted. ...Power regulators set accordingly... Readjusting balance sensors... Targeting systems reset... Enemy detection systems reset. Radar sensitivity augmented... OS optimized for battle conditions."

Shifting gears to and from combat, I quickly readjust Quercia's combat settings based on the information I've gathered. Typically, something like this would take a person a bit more time, I guess. But me? Nah, this is my forte. I may not be a soldier, but if there's one thing I can do, it's tinker with a machine. And since me and my partner here have a mutual understanding, makin' adjustments on the fly is as easy as getting up in the mornin'.

"Alright, Q! Let's give 'em hell!"

Power is surging within me. A rush is racing through my veins. For someone like me who has been placed under these unique circumstances, the fight for survival and the thrill of the fight have become one and the same. It numbs the mind, stirrin' up confusion, and intoxicating the mind. Nevertheless, no matter how much I may bitch about it in the long run, I can't deny that I enjoy this feeling. In the end, it's probably what keeps me coming back. This is because I don't fight for the Union, or because some midget commands me to. No... I fight simply because of my partner: Unit RSF-004UH, "Quercia".

With that Melvin guy already heading off towards the platform and Sylvia doing her own thing, there's nothing else for me to worry about. I saw the escape pods flying from the colony earlier, so there's no need for me to worry about the innocent. Those who lie before me now are the enemy. And I've got no problem shooting them down.

Setting my sights on the Guardian squad aiming for the Ark Royal, I move Q's arm into position. With the targeting sequence completed in seconds, all there's left for me to do is pull the trigger. With a mighty roar, a golden stream of light and energy rushes forth- annihilating anything in its path.

    CLS: D
    RNG: A
    MNV: C
    EN: A (440/500)
    DUR: B

Basic Energy Usage (per turn): 30

    Basic Equipment:

JMC-H06 “Tenjitsu” Resonance Particle Cannons (2 Active Units)
A high level particle cannon, emitting its damage mainly through heat, light and radiation, Tenjitsu is a revolutionary prototype design created by the Aosaki Heavy Industries. By directly drawing energy from the core of the Quercia, it is possible to generate a large scale attack close to that of a Charlemagne positron cannons fitted on flagships of the EASN, without the corresponding large scale equipment. However, for the time being, the Quercia seems to be the only Rubicon capable of emitting the suitable frequency for the Tenjitsu core system. The two cores are placed into the chest and left hand of the Rubicon.

    EN- 30 per attack

“So what’s the plan? Hunt down the infiltrators? If that’s the case, I thought I heard one of them mention something about them heading to Nova Calendus's mainframe? We aren't going to get far without any weapons or help you know."

Zach looked to Takuto, he was right. With how the situation was playing out right now, they were definitely outgunned by the infiltrators as they were now and it didn't seem like that was going to change any time soon. He grimaced as he thought about their situation, three enemies down the hallway, no weapons while each one of them were armed one way or another and they had they were at a disadvantage if they wanted to get to the mainframe...the odds were not in their favor.

He glanced back into the hallway, noticing only now the grotesque sight: a bloodied rifle with a detached hand still holding on to it. The scene of the guards being cut into pieces played over in his mind again, the sickening smile plastered on that man's face...

    Damn it!

A strike against the wall accompanied the thought.

...And still, this opened up a window of possibility.

They were not totally unarmed with the weapon, their position at the moment was still no better but the rifle would have to do for now. With disgust he quickly grabbed the rifle off the ground before pulling the hand off, warm blood covered the rifle still but they had to make due. It was live or die now, there was no luxury here, if none of the others would do it he would take up the task. Only moments before, this man was alive, only moments before he had called back to Zach before being mercilessly silenced. The thought made the young man's stomach churn, this was not his first time being so close to death but the feeling was still foreign to him.

But...they needed this weapon, nobody could question what he did.

He looked to Takuto, before offering him the bloodied weapon. His mind now working on a makeshift plan, this was the best he could come up with the looming danger.

"In the hallway I saw there were some fire alarms, shoot those out as well as the lights. It's not much but maybe it'll make them cautious of approaching."

He then looked to the rest of them, there was no way they'd survive going out into that hallway. Not with how they were now.

"We'll make a run for it after that, down this hallway. If any of you want to head to the shelters, I won't stop you but I'm heading to the Mainframe."

The plan was foolhardy, going down the mainframe corridor. Takuto could provide cover fire each time they went around the corners further down the bending hallway but there was no guarantee this would work. The cover of darkness due to the lights having gone out would at least be a comforting thought...if they were lucky

He could only hope that setting off the fire alarm would do something to stop their movement but Zach didn't hold his breath. The endeavor was futile in a sense, considering the distance he and anyone else who came with him would have to cover to get to the Mainframe. Yet still, he had to try, if everything went well perhaps he'd find some help on the way...or maybe not but regardless...he had to try.

Takeshi grimaced as he heard the techie's request, certainly he had committed some dishonorable acts at times, the sneak attack just moments ago for instance, but this? Takeshi couldn't help, but shake his head at the request, desecrating the dead was a pretty low thing to do, even in his book and that was saying something. Nonetheless the techie was the one in charge and he seemed to have some sort of plan, probably thought the student was still behind that corner.

Shrugging, Takeshi approached one of the nearby corpses, his blade at the ready. Noting how fragile his blade must have been after the bloodbath from earlier, he picked a head that had taken a slash to the neck already, hopefully this little request of the techies wouldn't end up with him losing his blade. Bringing the blade down in one swift motion, he detached the head from the rest of the body and approached Kang with it.

"You're sick, you know that?" Takeshi simply stated as he handed the head to his squad leader, not even interested in knowing what he wanted to do with the fallen soldier's head.

I know I left the plan up to you Zach but you're going to give away the fact, we're still here to the enemy if you thump on the wall that hard! I was about to sternly look at him for screwing up but it seems that he came up with a plan to get out of our sticky situation. In fact, he jumped straight to his newly created plan and quickly grabbed one of the late guard's rifles which had a hand still stuck on it. Zach took no time in removing the hand and offered me the bloody rifle. He then narrated his plan to me.

"In the hallway I saw there were some fire alarms, shoot those out as well as the lights. It's not much but maybe it'll make them cautious of approaching."

I felt a switch flip inside my mind and afterwards I emptied myself of anything not required for the mission. Feelings. Noncombat-related rules. My first thoughts after emptying were to acknowledge my orders to Zach and grab the rifle.

"Mission received. Objectives: Shoot the fire alarms and lights to prevent enemy infiltrators from approaching."

Zach then gave us all measuring looks before he continued speaking to everyone else.

"We'll make a run for it after that, down this hallway. If any of you want to head to the shelters, I want stop you but I'm heading to the Mainframe."

Mission objective added. Run to Nova Calendus's Mainframe.

    "Roger. Executing mission now."

I crouched and leaned out from the corner to minimize my potential chances of being shot and have an easier stance for when I shoot. Afterwards, I quickly and accurately found my targets. I pulled the trigger on each target briefly to release exactly one bullet per target. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that Mashta, Stevie, and Zach started to run all according to the plan. After I shot all of the alarms and lights one second later, I too started running down my hallway then to the Mainframe.

    Wise Up!

    Commander Kang Taehwan (Ensign Zabi)
    Date: 13 April 29 SE

Taking the bloodied head in his hands, Kang stooped over, taking a flashbang out of his hidden pocket. His hand was on its pin when he heard gunshots several of the lights going out around the area, a brief clatter of footsteps followed by the sounds of sprinklers going off, as well as alarms. The footsteps were obviously the enemy running somewhere, and it wouldn't be nice if they got away with the news of the infiltration. Setting the head and flashbang on the ground in a kneeling position, he raised the rifle he had picked up earlier.

    "All hands, open fire."

It would be bad for the mission if they lost track of witnesses. Taking aim, he peppered a low height, wide hail of bullets, aiming for the general thigh height.

    Freira Lima
Date - 13th of April, Friday, 29 SE
    Location - Simulation Room

    "Tsundere, you say...?"
A wide grin spread across Freira's face, as she recalled what the Japanese expression stood for. "Yes... How about you come down here and I show you just how 'lovey dovey' I can be, huh-?!"

Guarstein taunts had managed to get Lima irritated to an extent, but if he thought she was going to lose her focus because of it, he was wrong. No matter how much he wanted to crush Riley in a fight at close quarters, the silver haired woman had been assigned another target to destroy. Her opponent wasn't the only one who had been given a timelimit to complete the mission: She had been ordered to take out the convoy within ten minutes. Now that she had the chance, Freira was not going to waste it in a pointless quarrel. So Lima wasn't entirely serious with her invitation... She would only attack her foe if he dared to get in her way.

The way Guarstein had approached her ensured the Brazilian pilot that he was indeed out of ammo. Her guard had been so poor that her opponent could have finished her off if he wanted with the help of the sensor pack. So, without hesitation, Freira pulled the Mobile Suit back to its feet and charged forward at full speed. She was lucky that, after all this damage, her mech could still move. Maybe it wasn't such an useless piece of junk, after all. Hopefully, the real things were even better than this.

If Riley chose to attak, which he most likely would, he'd either do it from above in order to stop her, using the superior height to gain momentum and deal as much damage as possible, or from the front, possible waiting near the location of the convoy. Either way, Freira believed herself to be the better warrior between the two and that she would be able to handle the boy even when her Mobile Suit was missing an arm. It was not like a pussy like Riley could knock her out with a single hit, anyways. And everyone knew that, after that, he'd be in for a beating.
