    Saki Ryuumonbuchi
    Reimyaku - Sea of Souls
    Night
    Moon Phase: ????

"Power without reason, without responsibility, is not power, but destruction... It will consume you... The boy you fought is proof of that... So, for what reason do you seek this power?"

There was no question that meant more to her than this. Somehow, this ‘She-Who-Reigns-Sovereign-Over-The-Pitrs’ spoke with words that struck to Saki’s core, that reached into the furthest recesses of her heart. She probed with questions that touched upon feelings that drove the girl, that made her what she was. Her quest for power, for something that set her apart from others, was something the girl understood to be reckless, violent, rash, but not at all one without reason.

“To break free from the Cage of Normality this Saki Ryuumonbuchi searches for power.” Saki answered resolutely. These were her true feelings, the ambition that drove her. There was not a shred of deception, no dishonesty in these words, in this answer.

“This Saki, this Child of the Kyuubi, desires to be a truly unique existence. One unlike any other. One that you can find not a single being akin to in this entire world, or the next.” She continued. She-Who-Reigns-Sovereign-Over-The-Pitrs’s question was not one the girl could easily answer, because the answer was not one easily put into words. But she would answer, she would voice these feelings. To lie here, to deny herself and how she felt, was not to be herself.

After all, never before had anyone asked her such a question. Never before had she had to voice these feelings. She wanted to do so, she wanted at least one person, one single individual to hear her desire from her own mouth.

There was one who knew, who understood. She could read the hearts of men, and she knew what Saki truly wanted, and why she craved it so. But Saki had never been given, never found the chance to voice those desires. Never until now.

“Life before power was opulent, it was without strife, without concern. It was misery. It was a cage. There was nothing out of reach, there was nothing beyond grasp. Life was a cage masquerading as the ultimate freedom, where all the worlds pleasures were mine to grasp, save for power. Power that money could not find, could not create.”

Memories came to mind as she spoke. A grey life, led around and escorted by armed men who waited on her hand and foot. The world had only envy for the vice-like luxury and comfort she lived in. They mistook that curse for a blessing. How easily life would bore one when all was within their palm. Nobody understood. Nobody ever would. How her world had turned grey, lifeless and colorless.

The world was grey, until she discovered the color red.

“Saki Ryuumonbuchi was given a taste of such power, a tiny, crimson flower bloomed in the barren, grey garden of life. It gave her world color, gave her life meaning. She had been given something special, and in turn she was special. But it wasn’t enough.”

Even if she painted over the grey with her red, in time her power too would lose its luster. So she honed it. She pushed it further, she made it greater, burn hotter, and more precise than ever before. She burnt away the spirit and the flesh in one stroke. A power she loved, that she idolized. The fruits of her labor, the sign that she was an existence above all.

Even now, she loved that which she wielded. But it wouldn’t remain that way. Saki knew herself better than any other, and she knew that eventually her flames might appear grey to her eyes. So she searched for ways to push it further, to keep it vibrant and crimson.

“The fraction of power I received that day, eight years ago, was spread to many. Each Child of the Kyuubi is different, yet the same. We each hold within us a great, colorful power, and the more that power is exercised the greyer it becomes, until the world runs dry of color. One day, Saki Ryuumonbuchi may very well suffer such a fate.”

    That’s why.

“That is why I, Saki Ryuumonbuchi, desire power. So that color does not fade away, so that this world will always be vibrant and lush, a place worth living in. To do so I need a power beyond any other, something that can never bore, of which I can never tire. Something infinite.”

    Moon Phase: Waxing

I rush towards the giant with all my might.

Its raw strength doesn't compare to that of any other spirit I've fought before. It's not wrong to say that a single blow could prove to be the end of me. Therefore, this battle will be over when I stop it or when it manages to hit me once. The weight of my responsibilities is heavy, but I remain calm.

    My mind is clear.

Even if this creature somewhat resembles a human in movements and appearance, it does not matter. The moment it decided to threaten the normal populace, it became my enemy. As a Koga, my role is to protect and I'll do it to the best of my ability. Whether it's a human, a spirit or a god, it's no concern to me. I take my enemies down without fail.

    "..."

This is not an opponent I can defeat with martial arts alone. I am fully aware of this fact.

It's true that I am ready to die if it means saving the life of countless others.

However, giving up my life is an act of sacrifice, not an excuse to escape from the world of the living. I can't just stand still and wait for the end to come. For the chance to protect others to manifest, I have to fight with everything I've got. In other words, to even hope for a chance of victory, I'll have to rely the curse that resides within my body since nine years ago.

I force the gate open. A torrent of repressed memories makes my mind drown.

Loneliness, self-loathing, fear, confusion, anger, pain... All of those emotions are unbottled in an instant. An invisible hole is dug in my chest and my vision automatically goes red. My senses can hardly withstand the consequences of releasing my ESP to this extent. But I am not afraid to break my body... For me every battle where someone else is at risk is the final battle to me. If I can activate my psychic ability without hurting those I swore to protect, I'll do it without a second thought.

Body-temperature manipulation, dependent on human emotions. The more intense the feelings I gather, the higher the variation in temperature. Right now, my body has risen to such temperatures that the manifestation of flame is possible. No, to say that 'the manifestation of flame is possible' is wrong... At this point, the correct thing to say would be 'the manifestation of flame is unavoidable.'

The ordinary clothes the girl is wearing soon disappear, consumed by fire as she becomes a raging comet. It's not a metaphor: Her entire body has been set ablaze. The one thing that remains which does not originally belong to Koga Ran's body is the special suit an old friend of her parents designed just for her.

    "..."
    Our stares meet.

I confirm its head is wide open. An attack from the front at this time could deal critical damage and potentially disable the spirit's sight.

But I don't stop. I continue to move until there is no road ahead of me.

My target has never been its eyes. Attacking from the front leaves me open to many dangerous scenarios and a spirit of this class might be able to quickly regenerate from its wounds anyways. Instead, my goal are its vitals... I will make it forget about its objective by proving that I can be a real threat if I want to.

Turning around its shoulder, I swiftly make it to the nape of the neck. Its movements are human and it's appearance does resemble that of one... If that is the case, it's possible that it shares the same muscular composition. At the same time, if I have failed to reach the right conclusion, its retaliation should be predictable. The only directions from which its hands can approach me are the left and the right.

I need to crush the back of it's neck. However, a simple blow won't do...

... so I take a deep breath and unleash a barrage of punches, all aimed at the same spot-!

    "Uaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-!"

Whether I become tired or not does not matter.

Whether my enemy is just one or a hundred does not matter.

Whether I keep my life or lose it during this encounter does not matter.

    I'll defend this gate.

    That is all.

"No... You guys got hurt... I messed up pretty bad..."
"Since I left you alone back there you can't really chalk it up as your screw-up." I try to reassure her and myself in equal parts. The realization that I should have handled this better than I have done still lingers, and her putting the fault on herself only makes it worse.

I try to hide my doubt as best as I can, but my voice has lost the confident touch it has had in our earlier conversation. "Sorry about your arm. Maybe I should have stayed back there."

My entire upper body is still covered in lacerations but the flesh that I have been gifted with has shown itself to be quite enduring, even after all these assaults. Usually Aogami was able to bring down the small frys we hunted only with some burn marks and the occassional cuts and bruises, but this time he has been roughed up pretty badly.

I only notice faint signals from the bell. It seems like he is asleep. Maybe it's a good idea to follow his example...

"Staying here any longer might have worse consequences than I thought... We have a bane-stone now, so after we recover some, we'll have to try to leave..."
She's trying her best to not make anybody here worry but to me it has the opposite effect. What exactly have I put her through when I left her alone back there? And if what might have happened if we did not corner our opponent?

My decision might have killed her.

    "You should really let me..."

A thumping noise, like a sack of potatoes falling over. I turn around to look for the source, still tense from our earlier engagement.

    Saki is clutching the stone.

"YOU!" I turn around to our new friend. "What the hell is happening to her?"

For a second I debate if storming over to her makes me look less concerned for Liane's wounds, but after a few seconds of awkwardly hopping back and forth on my shaky feet I decide to run to her.

    Moon Phase: ????

The woman listens intently to your answer.

Recognizing that she is not you, and thus, finally having the chance to open your heart to someone besides yourself and your master, you speak fervently, the sincere words reaching out to the one who shared your face, before disappearing into the rushing endless blue that surrounded you both. It is neither uncomfortable or embarrassing to do so, the woman does not interrupt, nor does she say that your words are a lie, she simply listens, as one who desires nothing more than the true answer from those she spoke with, you do not get the feeling she is judging you in any real way.

Regardless of your answer, so long as you believed in it, you got the feeling that would be enough for this one.

"Desiring power... To keep your world a place worth living in?" repeating your statement back to you as you finish, as if to ensure that she heard it correctly, her tone brightens ever so slightly, and if you didn't know better, you would almost think that she was smiling beneath that mask, "I suppose for a human, that sort of answer is to be expected. A world without color is indeed a sad, lifeless place, I agree, and thus, I bear witness to your answer."

Uncrossing her arms, the woman hold out her hand to you, and driven by curiosity, you glance at it for a moment.

    The stone.

The thing you had sought so much back in the shop, was resting silently in the palm of her hand.

"Of course, Power itself is also nothing more than a single color," so saying, the woman's voice evens out again, and the stone begins to shine. Around you, red figures appear in this blue world, wraiths, bad feelings and thoughts given form, regrets, hatreds, broken promises, lost loves, all gathered in a single stone that some, even you, had thought of as 'power,' "If I am reading your experiences correctly, then this is the thing that acted as a catalyst for your path to me. A stone of infinite power, but also infinite hate, that attacks the souls of the living in exchange for the limitless power of the dead... Such a thing will simple dye your world red."

Closing her hand around the stone completely, it's light disappearing with the solid form of her fist, the nonexistent ground begins to shake as if in protest, and the wraiths, the lost ones who were staining this blue world crimson, vanish in the blink of an eye.

"And a world that is completely red is no different from a world that is completely gray," her hand still closed, the woman makes no motion to give the stone back to you, to your slight annoyance, "If you wish to bring color back to your world... Then this stone is not the right way... Perhaps the best way to do that is by mixing your red with the colors others hold... That is a limitless power in it's own right."

Another pause, a sense that the girl is smiling, then, as if she was never there...

    She vanishes...

For an instant you blink, but before you can turn around again, someone embraces you, lightly from behind.

In an instant you understand it is the entity.

That if you were to look back, you would see perhaps, what the true form of ‘She-Who-Reigns-Sovereign-Over-The-Pitrs’ was...

"But these are just the words of an observer, my words, words of someone who perhaps does not understand," her voice light now, the words charm you to the point where you can't move your body, and a warm feeling, a feeling similar to that of what you had felt eight years ago, spreads from the point where her arms are touching your stomach, a feeling similar to the one you got when you were first granted your ESP, "Even still, as someone who wishes to see the young succeed, and as a present for one who found their way to me, I shall bind that foreign red, and in exchange, share my 'blue,' with you."

    Before you can argue...

Each and every one of your senses is violated in some way, a burning feeling, like everything about you has become a cool flame, shoots throughout the soul that makes up the core of Saki Ryuumonbuchi, and...

    Just like eight years ago...

You begin to feel a tad faint...

??? has shared a portion of her power with you.
??? Perk. "A Gift of Blue," has been acquired.
A certain red stone has become "Sealed."

Your eyes fading back to darkness, as was the fate of the living that tread in this place, her words come out to you one last time as your soul retreats back it's mortal shell to sleep a long sleep.

"The next time we meet, you and I, I hope your world will have become something other than red and gray."

    And thus...

    Once more...

    Your world became darkness.

Truly it is something that can be called a colossus.

Traveling the length of it's arm in order to reach the back of it's neck, it's scope as a monster becomes truly apparent. Hunched oer as it was, it had already seemed like a giant out of myth, but your eyes taking in everything on your journey to cripple it's neck, it becomes apparent that the monster could be much larger if it chose to straighten it's posture.

The length of it's arms was considerable, and while it seemed to be acting carefully now, carefully in a way that wasn't common to spirits, you knew that if it desired it, it could even tear apart the surronding buildings with terrifying ease. It's strength was something unimaginable, even though it was flawed in many other ways, you were absolutely sure that even for someone like you. a blow from that being would be crippling, if not outright fatal.

That is why you attack in this careful, calculated manner.

If you attack the back of it's neck, so long as it is limited to a human-like range of movement, any sort of counter it could put up should be easy to spot.

Ignoring the open crimson targets that are it's eyes, your emotions light your body ablaze, a blazing fire that fed itself off the emotions of Koga Ran. In a way, this was perhaps the most fitting power for someone involved with the Spirit World.

After all, in one way or another, power stemmed from emotions.

And letting out a roar to focus your own, you unleash a barrage of fists at the back of the being's massive neck, hoping to draw it's attention to you, and stop it's forward march towards the temple.

    ??? takes 96 Damage.

Despite it's impressive density, the skin of the monster cracks, almost like glass, beneath the force of your relentless blows. It's something that surprises you, as a monster that is clearly of the A-Class, it's defenses should be a bit more formidable than this, and yet...

As your fists continue to hammer on the glass-like surface, your right hand actually punches completely through.

While you can't actually see inside the thing's body, it feels hollow, like there is nothing in there but air, and again, this seems odd to you, after all, this spirit's presence was something that could be felt even by normal humans, by the civilians that had moved away from this place out of a subconscious knowledge that something dangerous was coming this way...

So, if the body was hollow, where was that powerful feeling of density coming from...?

And why was it hollow in the first place...?

Still thinking about it, your mind is jolted back to reality when you notice something else that alarms you.

    Namely...

The creature has not attacked you in retaliation.

    And...

It's forward momentum has not stopped.

For vengeful spirits, obsession was something they could easily understand. Often anchored to this world by solitary regrets, it was easy for them to pursue their objective regardless of most costs to themselves.

In this case, the retrieval of the Bane Stone was it's current reason for existence. Despite the fact that your attacks had been enough to quite literally shatter parts of it's body, you were still nothing more than a fly it would swat after it's mission was accomplished.

    Yes.

If you wanted to stop it, simply attacking it's body like this was not quite enough...

It's mouth opening to reveal a red chasm, you could see red light gathering there, along with a torrent of incarnate emotions, namely, Spirit Power.

It's gaze was not on you, but on the far off gate...

    Was it charging something?

    And if so...

What do you do about it?

Thankfully, it seemed like it would take it a bit to finish... Whatever it was doing, so...

2 turns till charging is complete.

    King
New Aoyoma, Aoyama Reien (Aoyama Cemetery)
    Night

At the end of the day, what pushed the man to more or less ignore the girl’s words was a simple fact: the person he had been, a long time ago was no more. In his place, now there was an entity that could not be considered an ‘human being’ anymore, something that had transcended that term long ago, when he had made his decision.

    He was now ‘the King’.

He crossed his arms, his back suddenly straightened as he looked towards Mary. The hood that was covering his head fell, revealing his blonde locks, and suddenly, his eyes and his surroundings shinned gold, an aura of tremendous power manifesting itself around him. It was not a threat, nor was him channeling or using his power… it not even something he did consciously, but rather just a side-effect of just merely being. It was a symbol of his identity, a banner under which many men and women had reunited. It was part of his ego… and his charisma.

“I am the King… and he is Isamu.” He stated, his voice taking in an intonation much different than the one he had used moments before.

“Are you aware of what is happening outside?” King asked, but continued without waiting for an answer. “My companion and I are scouting this graveyard to determine if it a safe place for our group to rest at, and remain until the matter is settled. You don’t seem like a threat to us… and in the case of you not knowing about the latest events, I invite you to join us and receive an explanation of what has happened.”

The girl did not seem like a bad person, and if she was truly unaware of what was happening, then she would be more secure with them than alone, by herself. He ignored the knowing look in her eyes, currently not interested in such things.

Deep down, he knew he would visit the grave when he had the time. It was something he owed to the man he had formerly been… but now it was not the time to occupy his mind in such thoughts. Right now he was King, leader of men, and he was in a vital mission to ensure the safety of his army. And that was above all other concerns he could have at the moment.

Now, he could only await the nun’s decision.

Without hesitation, you pull the trigger on the descending monstrosity, aiming not for the body, which would be the easiest place to hit, but rather the eyes. As sight was the sense that is, more often than not, relied upon far more than the others in terms of combat, managing to cripple the eyes of your opponent was one way to gain a major advantage over them. Despite seeming at least somewhat intelligent for a berserker type fighter, the descending being makes no move to cover it's own body despite the fact it's open to assault.

After all, it was an existence above that of humans.

Unlike most of the monsters that had appeared within this city, monsters that were created from the remnants of negative emotions, this thing was a being that didn't belong in this world.

    Demon.

An existence that was far above humans.

The singular figures of myth, the unique monsters, heroes, gods, devils, that existed in a realm separate from this one. They were not common occurrences, monsters on the same level as the greatest of vengeful spirits, monsters that could go higher than them...

Monsters that were ascended, that existed on a plane in which the common weapons of humans should not be able to hurt them.

The incident eight years ago had involved them in some way.

You do not know this consciously, but the instant you had recognized it as hostile, something within you, a feeling, had begun telling you to destroy it now, that it was your natural enemy.

It saw you as a weak human, someone who was faster than most true, but one that would still disappear with a single swing of it's axe. There was no reason to avoid your attacks, it had swatted away the bullets in the last incident in order to protect it's summoner, but so long as it was the target, there was no reason to avoid something as common as gunfire, it's sheer existence as a higher being alone would be enough to render the efforts of most humans null and void-

    Minotaur? takes 30 damage

-The massive body trembles for the briefest of instants as pain shoots through it's form.

An attack that should not have hurt, had pierced it's defenses, not like an exorcist, who could pierce through with use of spirit power, but naturally, as if the shooter was someone that existed on the same plane as itself.

You were not a normal human.

Whether the Children of Kyuubi were human at all was debatable, but the moment you naturally pierced it's defenses without amassing your spirit power, or even really thinking about your ability to do so as anything special, the thing immediately escalated things to the next level, acting out an instinctive reaction to someone who was actually a threat.

    Yes.

Momentarily blinded by your assault, and confused as to exactly what sort of existence you were, the limiter on the Demon's actions is removed, and a great feeling of impossible pressure falls over you all.

    No need to take risks.

Blow you all away in a single strike.

Recognizing that the attack has changed from a simple axe strike to something else, you move back, instinctively, trying to put as much space as possible between you and it, but-

    Mika takes 65 HP Damage.
    ??? takes 65 HP Damage.

It's like getting hit by a hammer.

The thing that strikes you is not the axe, if it had, your body would probably been cleaved in two.

    No.

The thing that struck you was the pillars of earth that had erupted forth from the ground. It was a feeling similar to witnessing someone use their ESP, or an exorcist using magic, a heavy feeling that made it clear the rules of the world were being warped to a single person's benefit, because of that feeling, you were pretty sure they hadn't appeared due to the sheer force behind the Minotaur's attack, but rather, it had made the earth itself attack you somehow.

This was not a very comforting thought.

Landing hard on your back after being launched into the air, the breath is knocked out of you, and for a moment you lay stunned, but...

    "Damn bull-!"

Having landed somewhere close by, the boy, laser punk, fires another blast at what you now recognize as the charging minotaur.

    It dodges.

It's finesse is impossible, clearly out of this world, and rather than slowing down, its pace speeds up as it comes, it's target, you, the one who had hurt it, clear as day to everyone in the area.

Standing up, you face down the charging bull, going through the few options you have in your head, but knowing it'll probably get you this next time, when...

The Moon has begun to change...

...You start to feel a little weird for some reason...

    -Demon-

An existence on a level above that of humans. While called "Demons," generally, those who carry this trait aren't always evil or possess the form monsters, but rather, the term demon is simply used as a broad name for those unique existences that don't belong in this world, whether they be angel, demon, or mythic hero. As beings that rank above humans spiritually, they are not only excellent at tearing through the 'lowly' existences of humans, but because humans exist on a different wavelength as them, they also possess natural resistances to most forms of attack a human could utilize, and thus, could be thought of as impossible opponents for most who exist in the modern day. Automatically granted the A-Rank by the SDCD, even exorcists are at a major disadvantage against them. However...
[Demonic Trait. Passive. Negates the attack value of all attacks inflicted by Normal Humans, and the damage taken by Normal Humans from a Demon's attacks is doubled.]
[Demonic Trait. Passive. Halves the damage done by Exorcists and Spirits, and the damage they take from a Demon's attacks is increased by x0.5.]
[Demonic Trait. Passive. While technically human, ESPers still do full damage and do not take any extra damage from their attacks. If a Demon is unaware of this, the first attack utilized by an ESPer against is considered to be a sneak attack.]

The boy does not respond to your question.

Still groaning on the floor, his major wounds remaining quite open due to the apparent absence of the stone, you get the vague idea that, while he's conscious, he's far too confused, as well as in far too much pain, to be of any help in your quest for answers.

And so, looking back and forth between the two most wounded members of your group, you ultimately choose to check on your old friend, rushing to her side while Megumi, who seemed similarly torn, ultimately motioned Michio towards the two of you and made the opposite choice, moving over to the slightly shaking side of Liane, perhaps because they were friends, or perhaps because, like you, she was rather alarmed that the normally strong, energetic, joking woman was being so insanely quiet about wounds that would be outright crippling even for people like you, and were obviously causing her a great deal of pain.

"...Aya must have really torn you up if you lost to a Wendigo... Here, give me that arm, there should be some medicine left..."

    "..."

Reaching Saki's side as the older woman starts fussing over her friend, you naturally check for a pulse, and find it easily enough, but...

As for her 'emotional state,' you couldn't read anything from her. Even sleeping people should have some sort of presence in your mind, and yet, without a doubt, there was nothing coming from the girl in your arms despite the fact her vitals were all perfectly fine.

It was alarming, perhaps more so than Liane's injuries, and grabbing the now silent stone adds more questions than answers, and a part of you wants to go over and force the answers out of the groaning boy behind you one way or another but...

"...I don't think that kid will know, losing consciousness is not a normal symptom of these types of rocks."

Face calm, Michio makes this silent observation from where he knelt, next to you both.

"...Children of Kyuubi don't die easy anyway, she fought hard... Wouldn't surprise me if she passed out afterward... Willpower can carry you a bit past your limit, and you have to pay for that later..."

Was he trying to be comforting? Or was he just stating facts...?

    Hard to tell with exorcists...

For an instant, the crimson night fades to gold as the existence of one who cannot be ignored asserts it's presence on the world, controlled, perhaps subconsciously, into a firm but warm power that drew not only attention, but innate curiosity, admiration, in others. For an ESPer, it was an innate spiritual pressure above that of most, a singular power that approached the terrifying auras of those spirits who called themselves "Legion," and in a way, it is a power that is not entirely suited for a human being.

The nun blinks, but does not move to retreat or approach.

Her arms folded together in front of her, the girl tilts her head at the golden display, and her own aura, a white light, mingles with your own and rejects it's dominance, as she once again looks at you with eyes that seem to pierce through the veil that was your body.

"There is something happening outside...?" eyes darkening slightly, the girl's expression focuses, "No... I am unaware... I have been here for most of the day. But, if you are looking for a safe place... I assume it's nothing good..."

Straightening her posture, the girl takes a step towards you...

    And stumbles...

It's in that moment, that you instinctively move to catch her, that you understand something about this one.

Despite the fact her Spirit Power is impossible, her light weight body is not average, even by a human's standards.

    In fact...

It's outright weaker than the body of a normal human.

That stumble of hers wasn't just clumsiness...

"If the situation is serious enough that people are evacuating, then taking me with you would just prove more detrimental than anything else... I can't keep up very well with a group I'm afraid..."

Smiling sadly, the girl manages to regain her balance, momentarily using you to push herself back up.

"But if you seek safe haven, I haven't seen anything particularly threatening within this place..."

When my emotions flare, I know there is no stop.

I am possessed, not by a spirit, but by my own repressed thoughts. Words of anger, sadness and loneliness crowd my mind as the barrage of blows unleashed rises in both speed and temperature. This is the drawback of having a psychic ability strongly tied to emotions: It's impossible to fully control. To draw more power, I have to take a step closer to becoming a mindless berserker. It's the reason why my ESP is a curse, the reason why I am afraid of drawing out this bloodthirsty blade: I cannot guarantee that any innocent standing within a 100 meter radius won't be hurt by my attacks. As the temperature of my body has risen to the point where the air around me immediately combusts, I have become a being who is only capable of handling destruction and pain.

I have grabbed this curse and molded it, I have given it a purpose: To protect, to bring peace of mind to the people of this world, just like the ones who came before me did. Essentially, I've made it a part of myself. That's why I cannot lose myself here now. Even if I must face my own shadow on top of this mighty giant, I have an obligation to the defend the temple's gate.

It's the sound of breaking glass.

My right hand finally manages to pierce through the skin of the titan... But there is nothing on the other side. It's hollow. Its body is merely a shell, a projection. Together with this discovery comes the revelation that my efforts thus far have been meaningless. The aggressiveness the spirit had shown moments ago is now gone, its eyes set only on the completion of its objective. A strong source of Spiritual Energy already gathering inside its mouth, there is little I can do to stop the impeding demise. As expected, it's impossible for a single exorcist to take on a monster of this caliber. Despair soon begins to wash over me and the one question I hid in the back of my head begins to resurface. The nature of my ESP only makes the whole process faster.

---What if I can't actually save them...?

I retrieve my fist from within the black abyss and stop for a moment just to stare at it. I am just a lonely girl, one that lost her family at an early age, someone who doesn't have what it takes to stand on their level and make them proud even after a decade of training. I respect their departure, but I miss them from the bottom of my heart. I hate the ones responsible for taking them away from me. I am a warrior who hides her weakness under a strong resolve. Perhaps that is the reason why I've obtained an ability of this kind, one that does not require a strong body, simply the flaw of being swayed by one's own emotions.

The black hole in my chest expands. Black is the color that suits me the most.

So I draw my right hand into it and accept it. I coat my fist in despair and loneliness. I coat my fist in despair and loneliness and smash it against reality as hard as I can. I'll bury my fists into its glass skin and leave an impression. I'll punch until a a path opens before me. If its body is merely a shell, there must be a core hidden within, something which keeps all the parts together, the 'density' I can feel.

The speed, power and temperature behind my unrelenting blows soar as I add a layer of hope to the mix.

It's the worst kind of feeling. Strange as it is, back when she has been fighting our new friend over there I felt more at ease than I do now. Danger is something we have to live with in this line of work, and being faced with it changes us. Our instincts push us to fight until we can't draw another breath. Useless thinking is reduced to a minimum; there is only us and something, maybe someone that wants us dead.

But here, during the calm after the battle, there's nothing to push out all the worrying from my mind.

    "Come on..."

I keep shaking her but she does not respond in any way. All I can do is wait.

She's still alive. That's what I should focus on right now. That and what had happened to the rest of us.

I decide to give Megumi and Liane a bit of alone time. Maybe they have something to talk about that I do not have to hear.

"...I don't think that kid will know, losing consciousness is not a normal symptom of these types of rocks...Children of Kyuubi don't die easy anyway, she fought hard... Wouldn't surprise me if she passed out afterward... Willpower can carry you a bit past your limit, and you have to pay for that later...
"If she's weakened like this maybe it's not a good idea to let her carry that thing then. Considering what it did to the kid."

Power like this at ones fingertips brings temptation with it. Saki has a strong will, like nobody I've met before. But the stone...I've seen nothing like it before either.

"You think you can seal it or something? I can barely banish spirits, I don't really think it'd be a good idea if I try it. Or is lightning all you can do?"

It took a shot to the eye like it was nothing. In the end, my petty assumptions of equating demons to living, breathing animals was inherently flawed. Monsters were far stronger than anything nature could give birth to.

Stone is churned up from the ground, unnatural, not a product of the brute force of the axe, which could cleave me in two. But I’m alive, and so are they, even though it’s impossible to say we have any sort of advantage. I’m only stalling for Sora, but even then I can only go so far, not when a beast like this can demolish us all.

The minotaur is charging straight at me at a speed I doubt I can match. I doubt I can do anything to it, let alone pierce its hide. Dodging is a dream, deprived of me because of my actions, my choices, and the insurmountable strength of the beast before me.

But I can still take another hit, and in the end, living, whether it is unharmed or by the skin on my teeth, is still living. Fate will not take me today.

It’s charging at me in a straight line, inherently predictable. Legs move up and down in a rhythmic pattern, easy, not completely out of my league. There’s the knee. I take the shot and fire, hardly sure of the result. It’s better than nothing, and pestering the beast will keep its eyes on me.

    I just need some insurance.

“If you can, give me a hand! I’ll handle the rest!”

Vague, but the two of them should know. A shield would be helpful. Maybe a stray laser. Whatever just keeps it from killing me in a spectacular fashion.

    Dexterity: C (30)

    Spirit: A (50)

    Perks

    Major: Instinctive Reaction
Years of gambling and pissing off regulars for beating them at their own game has lead Mika to be even better at reading people and their intent. It's as if she knows exactly what they'll do next. As a result, if they attack, she is already prepared. If they use a trick of theirs she's already seen, she's even more prepared to react against it, because if the same trick didn't fly by her once, why would it do so again? Applies to non-humans as well—everything has a tell she can pick up on.
[Effect 1: Passive. Hit rate of enemy skills decreases when used more than once in battle against Mika. However, due to the nature of some ESP attacks, this does not always apply to ESP Abilities. Resets at the end of every battle.]
[Effect 2: Passive. So long as she does not attack, the success rate of the “Evade,” Guard Command is increased drastically in regards to observable singular attacks.]
[Effect 3: Passive. Damage of enemy skills/attacks previously observed by Mika is reduced by 10%. If the opponent continues to use the same techniques regardless, or lacks a skill to counter this one, further penalties may be applied. Resets at the end of every battle.]
[Effect 4: Passive. Increased ability to read the emotional tells of others; extends to killing intent, and reduces the success rate of surprise attacks.]

    Minor: One in the Chamber
Mika is experienced with handguns because of the fact she gambled them from the Yakuza. Her skill is rather decent, and currently she carries a semiautomatic for her own protection. She knows where to get ammunition too, if that counts for anything.
[Equipment. Semiautomatic. Attack value of bullets is equal to Mika's current DEX. Will always hit if the opponent possesses an AGI value of C or lower. Cannot awaken as a True Spirit Armament. For an SP cost of 20, the damage value of the bullets can be raised to 50.]

    Minor: Sounds Trustworthy
Mika has developed the ability to sound trustworthy regardless of what she is saying, whether it is swindling a kid out of their lunch money or telling you that you need to accompany her as she goes to an illegal cockfighting tournament to make some cash. Or, you know, that's she's not cheating. She's never cheating.
[Effect 1: Passive. Barring the use of certain mental skills (or innate paranoia), characters will normally believe Mika is telling the truth. Loses effectiveness with characters if lies are discovered by them later on.]
[Effect 2: Gain positive modifiers when negotiating with others.]

Our coordinated attack, while somewhat spur-of-the-moment, went off without a hitch, I jackhammer my fist into the ground, a meteorous strike from above, and this woman, whatever she wants to call herself, dodges smoothly, leaping into the air just as I hit the ground where she stood.

    But-

She didn't take into account Phase Two of our cunning plan.

Shadows crept through the night, ceasing each and every last bit of debris knocked into the air by my unstoppable fist, cars, bits of street, everything not tied down was grabbed by the shadowy tendrils emitted by my subordinate. And with a single signal-!

Every last bit of the debris was flung towards the pale-haired woman like a barrage of missiles, an all-out-offensive.

A two-pronged attack like that would crush any ordinary freakazoid, even some of the tougher monsters would be hurting pretty bad, so...

Why did it feel like this wasn't even close to being over?

That familiar crimson light broils through the night air, still as oddly familiar as ever, her clothes are pretty torn up, and she's got some nasty looking gashes running along her side.

But other than that she looked pretty much fine.

    How annoying.

"You're trying to stop me because I'm the enemy...?" She goes on in that, half-confused tone from earlier, I'm starting to get the feeling I'm not getting something, here.

The ground shakes as she goes on: "But I'm not...I'm Kusumi... Tamamo... I had to... This is the only way... to save the world..."

I scratch at my head, yeah, probably missing something here. This sure as hell doesn't feel like a world-saving sort of person.

She comes towards again, slowly at first, but then speeding impossibly fast in that depressing way.

    "Be silenced."

Still with that fucking expression on her face she-

Rocks Jacques like a hurricane, slammed into the ground face-first, the ground, already damaged from all the abuse I'd been laying upon it all night, cracks like an egg, and while she looks like she's in a perfect position to keep going, I'm already rushing forward-

And she just tosses him off to the side, still pretty rough, but not lethal.

    I frowned.

Her hand goes to her head again, that stone in her ear shining bright red.

    I frowned harder.

She turned to face me again, face emotionless once more.

    "..."

    "..."

    Awkward.

"SO, uh, what's this whole 'save the world' thing you got going, huh? Because, uhm, don't take this the wrong way, but, ah, this doesn't exactly seem to be a good way to go about savin' the world n' all, slammin people into the road, pulse punchin' and such."

I stroll idly, still casually, into a position that leaves me still directly in her path, but also nearby Jacques, in case she decides to go back for another bite.

    [Intercept Prepped]

"I noticed what you did a second ago, you could've kept going, kept slamming my buddy here into the road til' he was pulp, but you didn't. And you keep changin' names, 'Kusumi', 'Tamamo', you keep flip-flopping back and forth like you're tryin not to fight, but then you're right about to go in for the kill, but then you pull back."

I shrug, "I'm not one for talking, to be perfectly honest, I'm more like one of those dumb idiots who never grew up, still trying to 'talk with their fists' or whatever the hell that means, but it's not entirely without merit, because I noticed something..."

I look her dead in the eye, "Yer not fighting seriously, you keep getting this look on your face like 'I don't want to do this' why are you so interested in whatever you're after, why are you trying to get us to just move instead of straight up killin' us for getting in your way, an' most of all..."

I tap my ear, "What the hell is that damn thing you've got in your ear, cause I got a hunch, and that hunch says, 'Why the hell are you running around with a fucking bane stone in your ear?'".

I blink, "Oh also how do you know who I am."

That kinda ruined the whole dramatic moment, but I'm nothing if not a mood killer.

Explains why I still can't get a date.

    King
New Aoyoma, Aoyama Reien (Aoyama Cemetery)
    Night

Someone else might have surprised to see their powerful aura surpassed like that. Some ESPers would probably be enraged, while others would be scared.

    King was just merely amused.

However, said amusement was short-lived, and vanished when he heard the next words Mary had to say. Instinctively, he stepped forward to support her when she stumbled, and at the moment he felt her weight, he understood just how strange the person before him was. It was like she had more spiritual weight than physical, almost as if she belonged to the realm of spirits and ghosts rather than the one of humans and physical matter…

As he helped her up, she spoke once more, and this time, the words said by her caused a noticeable displeasure in King. The blonde man exchanged glances with Isamu, who just rolled his eyes, knowing very well what was going to happen next.

King shook his head. If Mary had no idea of what was going on outside, it explained the disconnect he had felt with her words and demeanor. However, more tragically, she seemed to have hearing problems of some sort, or at least, had not understood very well what he had said. So he, more than anything else, needed to clarify.

“I have already said it, didn’t I? I am King. And what kind of King leaves people behind?” That was all he had to answer to the girl’s words. Then, he turned towards his friend/subordinate/rival.

“Message the rest of the group and tell them that it seems to be safe here. They can advance, but they should keep their guard up and search for an easily defensible position to settle into. I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” There was a certain seriousness to his tone that had not been present moments before. He looked away from Isamu, trusting his friend to take the correct decision by himself, and with a flick of his fingers, he made his golden-colored aura compress and reduce its intensity. Although he liked the splendor of its natural state, sometimes it could get rather… inconvenient.

“Well then, Miss Mary. I believe you may be confused about what is happening around here. I’ll explain you what few I know of what has transpired… but not in this place. While we walk towards my group, maybe.” He stared at her as if calculating something, and then added: “If you need help to walk, feel free to use my arm or shoulder as a support.”

There was no real chivalrousness behind these words. For King, it was just a pragmatic, almost meaningless gesture.

King was always unlike all other humans. Possessing an extremely powerful soul, and a blazing unrivaled spirit that burns beyond infinity, it is no wonder that his spiritual abilities seem to reach even past the ceiling of humans, to penetrate fully in a terrain beyond the point of the supernatural. His power is such, that even monsters can’t help but respect it. Due to this, he is someone who could be considered to have surpassed humankind to become something entirely different, something whose identity can only be guessed at.

[Effect 2: Passive. Because of his large amount of Spirit Power, enemy spirits will, barring certain developments in battle, tend to prioritize King as their target above all others, with all the positives and negatives this brings. Additionally, it becomes more difficult for King to successfully utilize sneak attacks.]

King has something about him that can only be expressed as a combination of innate charisma, attraction to himself due to his extreme spiritual power, and an inherent force of his ESP that impulses people to revere him, and see him as his King. The expression of this is the street gang of people that has formed under him. People with spiritual abilities, low level or weak ESPers, barely awakened exorcists… and even some other supernatural entities that have submitted their loyalty to their King, and unquestionably obey his orders.

    ??? takes 35 HP Damage.

This time, the monster does not even flinch at your attack.

Having already discovered that you were capable of wounding it, the minotaur, the singular beast from legend that had patrolled the labyrinth of Crete, no longer feels any surprise at the fact that it's body is wounded by human assault. It is a being above humans, something shrouded in myth that was a monster above spirits, and so long as it knew the pain was coming, there would be no surprise, there would be no stumbling because of wounded muscles, there would be no mercy.

    It would not stop.

Not from something as trivial as that.

And you come to understand that, eyes narrowing as the beast does not slow in the slightest at your attack, you understand once again that this is an attack you will not be able to avoid. Whether or not you moved to the sides, back, or even above and over, you understood that the creature's weapon would trace the path of your body, guided by the strength and bloodlust of a berserker.

But, even if it hits you, you will not die, at least, not from the first blow.

Even if your body was split into two, so long as you were not finished off, the damage would reverse itself in time.

That was one of the many perks of becoming a sort of half spirit.

    Even still...

You can't help but call out for the others to help you.

And, whether out of a sense of human solidarity, or simply because of their own morals codes, your two 'siblings,' have already started to move before the words escape your throat. The girl, whose name you still don't know, moves in front of you, arms wide as if to shield the entirety of your body with her own. It is a reckless move, to put your body in the way for the sake of someone who might as well be a stranger, but she does it without hesitation, a natural act, the same instinct that had driven her to come to this place despite all of her senses screaming that it was a bad idea.

This girl was one who did not wish harm to anyone, be it spirit, human, or even demon.

If there was a way for everyone to get along, then that was the path she naturally sought, however...

That path had closed long ago, and so, the only thing she could do is protect the ones she could...

    Even if...

She knew her power would not hold against this thing's strength.

At the very least, it would buy you a moment to get away.

    "...!'

    Eyes narrow.

An axe swings down with inhuman force.

    And...

    "Huh...?"

Stops. Repelled by the invisible barrier that should have broken to pieces.

Time slows, the girl, who had expected to be crippled, is instead holding back an attack that should have easily shattered her defenses and crushed her body.

To say she was surprised would be an understatement, and for an instant, she moves to do nothing, shocked, but then pushes back with a grunt, the beast forced back with an invisible, impossible force she shouldn't possess, and the axe raises once more, this time glowing a brilliant golden color as the beast focuses everything into it.

The ground itself seems to tremble in anticipation... Or perhaps terror.

The miracle will not happen again.

    Yes.

Despite the unexplained increase in the girl's power, the fact remains that this creature has been holding back from the beginning, if you were struggling to hold back this much, then at full force...

    You would both definitely...Disappear-

    "Hey fucker! Don't ignore me!"

    The blow never comes.

Blue light, the mark of the other ESPer, consumes the monster in front of you completely.

    ??? takes 80 HP Damage.

    It pauses.

For an instant, it pauses, unmoved by the wave of light, but also unable to move any further, and in that instant, that small span of time, it becomes open to one more assault.

You shoot it in the hands, hoping to get it to drop it's weapon.

    ??? takes 30 HP Damage.

    The girl...

    "...!"

Hauls back her arm, and in a surprisingly forward move, slams her fist directly into it's inhuman face.

    ??? takes 40 HP Damage.

    Only it's head moves.

An unmovable wall, the monster endures all of this, and yet does not move from where he stands, nor does he drop the weapon.

    Yes.

All together, you all had managed to hurt it a great deal, but...

This monster was simply something that would not stop until it had crushed you itself, however...

    ??? takes 50 HP Damage.
    ??? Check: Failed.
    Demon dismissed.

    "...!"

Before it could so, an arrow, a familiar arrow, pierced through what you guessed was it's heart, burying itself in the ground at your feet.

Even this wound should not be enough to kill it.

Seeing that even with this it does not fall, you understand that in a heartbeat, and yet...

Almost as if it was a ghost, the thing starts to fade from view, it's body, siphoning off into the air as if someone was pulling it out of here through an invisible straw.

Even the priest, who was still standing in the distance, arms crossed behind his back, seems rather startled at this turn of events.

And further behind him, bow in hand, and same self-assured smile as always, was the girl who had convinced you to start this whole mess.

"Hey there father," speaking in that same unworried way, the girl keeps her bow trained on the man as she starts towards you all, "Feel like fighting this out any further, or do I have to knock you out too?"

"Kuzunoha... Geirin...?" Laughing quietly to himself, the priest does not turn to face the girl, however, "I have no intention of standing up to a Grand Summoner. I concede."

    Grand Summoner?

    What...

Watching the girl arrest the older man, locking his hands with good old fashioned cuffs, you get the oddest feeling that events have escalated far beyond your ability to handle.

But, might as well go along with it...

"Sorry about that everyone, I know this just keeps getting worse and worse for you guys... Did anyone get seriously hurt?"

What another pleasant little surprise. Just when I figure I've got myself figured out, I throw myself a little fastball and turn into someone all together! Hell, I can only imagine my face when I rattled my teeth. It was probably worthy of a freeze frame. Just like in my Saturday Jumps.

This is just exactly what I needed after all this 'Chosen One' mumbo-jumbo and all the dramatic monologues with that crappy priest. A solid, worthwhile battle. No holds barred and the rush of pain surging through my body. Heh... Either I hit my head a little too hard with that last one or I'm so damn pumped up right now that my body has gone numb. It's a little odd working myself back onto my feet when I can't feel anything, buuuut it's just like riding a bike. With a smile, I center myself and ready my sword again.

Though the face is different, there's no mistaking the person that doesn't belong here. And while it's strange, it's exciting at the same time. When Jojo says "What the hell," she admittedly takes the words right outta my mouth, but I think we're thinking this for entirely different reasons. Where she's probably thinking something like 'why is there another me' or 'what the heck is happening', all I can really think of is "Why the hell didn't she say she could do that sooner?" I mean, it's like I'm a kid again and I've just seen my first rabbit get pulled out of a hat.

    I...want to see more.

Mimicking my moves, transformation, and high-speed regeneration... An opponent like this doesn't come along every day, ya know. And I'm just crazy enough to wanna see what other kinds of batshit things this chick can do.

My weight shifts suddenly, I grasp Kagetsu with two hands, and I charge forward ready to strike again. If my opponent is using her fist this time around, then my sword is definitely gonna give me the advantage in terms of reach. But of course, she probably knows that too. So... I'm curious just exactly what an in-fighter is gonna do to overcome this challenge~

    "Damn you're chatty!"

But, naturally, I can't let idle intrigue hold me back. If I start pulling my punches now, how can I really say I beat her ass later? I cut her once, and that's exactly what I'm gonna do again. Cut her. ...Inside and out.

Though the arm has been restored, the fact that I sliced it off before isn't simply something she can ignore. The blood that I put on my sword before- my blood- has both been mixed with hers and stains the small bits of her arm. This allows for me to focus on it. Shape it. Craft it. And turn it into a weapon that I can use. Tiny little blades, no bigger than a cell- looking like liquid in motion in mass... The blood on the surface is fun to look at, I suppose... But, the real show comes from what's beneath... Embedded in the muscles and in her veins.

Now, I may not be the smartest person on the block, but even I'm smart enough to know that bad things are gonna happen when you start messing with stuff on that level. And though I can't say I know how well this is gonna work, I'm gonna be more than happy to find out while I'm running my sword through this Jojo's spine.

    Wise Up
    [ESP] Blood Manipulation
A simple ability in both form and application, Saya's ESP allows for her to manipulate her own blood in a variety of ways. Ranging from stopping her own bleeding, to crafting the red fluid into weapons, and even utilizing the ESP to heighten the natural parameters of her body, Saya's ability is basic, but effective. However, it should be noted that she can only manipulate her own blood and that the range she can accomplish this at is limited. However, as Saya herself primarily focuses on her sword skills in battle, she is allowed to concentrate her power in an effective area without widely broadcasting her abilities.
[ESP Ability. Allows for Saya to use her own blood to attack with a low-tier magical offense. The strength of the attack is determined by how much SP Saya puts into the attack itself. SP Cost: 10-40 for activation with an 10 for every turn of prolonged effects.]

    [Minor] Kenjutsu
To both temper her will and defend herself against evil, Saya has studied the art of the sword for the past six years. Eventually going on to use these skills to combat malevolent spirits and the like, it goes without saying that she has obtained a respectable level of skill in handling the blade (particularly, the chokutou). Making full use of the reach of her sword and her overall mobility, Saya seems to favor a defensive style which, oddly enough, would seem better suited for a katana. Nevertheless, she combines principles from different styles to create a method all her own. Seeing how as she's not the strongest when it comes to wielding a blade, Saya's motto is "strength in softness".

[Effect 1: Passive. STR and DEX are considered a rank higher when attacking with swords.]
[Effect 2: Small modifiers are granted to hit rate and evasion when fighting against unarmed opponents.]

Some would call it being edgy, you called it being subtle.

Taking advantage of the fact that, despite her healing, small traces of your own blood had remained in the area around the wound, you turn that vital essence of your body into a weapon, a chainsaw, a pool of crimson that will, even if the damage is limited to the blood stains, still eat through the arm of the fake JoJo much like a chainsaw eats through a tree. It's a rather brutal form of attack, and moving forward before it completes itself, sword at the ready to take advantage of the brief moment of weakness you are sure will appear because of the pain, it seems that, once again, this spirit's carelessness might have actually led it into another potential checkmate.

In a heartbeat, you draw back the blade.

    And in a heartbeat-

    JoJo? takes 40 HP Damage.
Johanna's? right arm has been severed.

    "Huh?"

Her right arm drops, disconnects, hits the floor and turns into that same black smoky liquid from before, but-

There is no pain in her voice, only dull surprise, as if the thought going through her head wasn't "shit this hurts," but rather, "well damn, that's just unlucky."

Other than that dull intonation of surprise, she does not show any reaction to the festering blood at all, as if the only reason it had been noticeable to her in the first place was because she had actually seen the arm drop...

    Still, that doesn't matter.

Even if she wasn't distracted by pain, the fact that she was missing an arm, as well as the fact that she lacked a weapon to counter yours, more or less puts the entire scenario in your favor.

    Johanna? takes 40 HP Damage.

And indeed, crossing the space between you and your crippled opponent, black mist sprays throughout the air as the imitation of JoJo is pierced right through, her almost last-second attempt at dodging fruitless before your skilled blade, only able to keep the sacred blade from piercing through her spine. Despite that however, it is a blow that, if the opponent were human, would certainly spell an end to their life, but, this being before you was a manifestation of ill wills, a monster, something that wouldn't die quite so easily.

Even so, with a holy blade lodged through her chest, the sort of weapon she couldn't hope to remove on her own, there's not much she can do to stop you from simply pulling up, or perhaps tearing the blade out through the side...

Right as you decide, still comfortably within the span of the moment after impact...

Her hand grips your throat, hard, like she wants to choke the life out of you, but instead... There's a sound like electricity, a tingle, like a building charge, then-

    Saya takes 45 HP Damage.
    Saya is stunned.

    Something arcs through your body.

It's a feeling much like being electrocuted, no, exactly like that of being electrocuted, as if the girl had taken her natural static electricity to some insane new height. Your body jerks around against your will because of the current, but her firm grip on your throat keeps you from fidgeting out of range, keeping you there for the entire duration of the assault, a single second dragged on to ludicrous levels of time.

And then when it's over, and your senses are just starting to recover, she draws you close and-

"Man, this girl has a freak body too~"

    -Headbutts you.

    Saya takes 15 HP Damage.

Staggering back for a second, you lose your grip on Kagetsu momentarily, and the girl, taking advantage of this, takes a step back, moving the spirit armament out of your range.

"Way too eager boss~" still chatting away in a manner reminscent to the girl she was pretending to be, the fake JoJo winks once at you, "I know you're excited, but you can't just thrust in that deep to start with, okay? That's how things get stuck, and that's no fun <3" Pointing at the sword that was still lodged in her chest, she tilts her head, "But man, I thought your body was good with the whole samurai thing, but this girl's form doesn't feel a damn thing~"

Making the hand of her remaining arm into the shape of a gun, the fingers crackling with electricity, the girl points at you and smiles.

"I'd ask you to take your sword out, but I don't think that's your style. So come on, show me that blood trick again~"

And still behind you, watching in what now seemed to be more of a stunned way, the real Johanna's right hand had balled into a fist.

The black surface cracks beneath the weight of your fists, and shatters because of the weight of the emotions that lie inside of them. To anyone looking, it would seem like a scene of desperation, of a human flailing uselessly against the side of a being far greater than itself, breaking off pieces of black glass, but ultimately accomplishing nothing, it would seem more like the attack of a berserker than anything else, but you know better.

There is still some thought lying behind your fists.

Spirits of this shape, this power, were the end result of a long series of events, and the starting event, the trigger, was always the strong despair of a single person, a single spirit that was entrenched enough in it's dark emotions to draw other spirits to it.

A sort of patient zero, in a way.

That first spirit, the one that started it all, occasionally possessed enough of a strong hate that it became the 'core' of whatever vengeful spirit it was responsible for creating, the one the others rallied around, the leader that was just another part of the eldritch mass, but one whose grudges they sought to carry out.

If the body was hollow, then something like a core must exist within the gargantuan form.

And, your fists burning with your resolve, you continue beating on the inky glass-like body in order to get at this core, digging your hand into the cracks when they appeared, and finally, in a burst of brutal strength, pulling yourself into the small hole you had managed to open in this pitch black shadow.

And, going inside, you once again encounter empty space, it's a feeling similar to jumping out of a window without checking what floor you were on, and for a time you fall, unimpeded by anything, and unsure if you will actually reach the inside of it, or simply fall to the distant concrete below.

    But...

    You land on darkness.

Your fire scorching the ground beneath you, a dull sound, like a scream that is slowly increasing in volume, becomes apparent to you.

Seemed this place really was a part of it's body, and if that was the case, your presence alone was enough to torch parts of this internal body. And behind those screams, there were light whispers, the voices of people questioning your presence here, but for now, as the spirit power above you is still increasing, you ignore them...

After all, in front of you, is the most likely candidate for the core you had been looking for, a transparent featureless person, floating a good dozen feet away, his or her arms and legs positioned in such a way that it almost looked like he had been crucified. Unlike the others, who had become the inky black mass that made up this body, this one still seemed to have a human form, albeit one who was still connected to the darkness...

If he was the core, the one projecting the thing, then perhaps attacking him would have the result you desired, but...

While there was a chance that Tachibana and Fujiwara would appear to help if you could distract it long enough, could you handle being the sole focus of it's attention if they didn't...?

    The answer was obvious.

"Seal it?" Michio's eyes narrowing in thought, the boy crosses his arms, "Well, Lightning isn't all I can do, but sealing something like that.... Is not something a single person can easily accomplish I'm afraid. Those things, bane stones, take special equipment to deal with, it's not the sort of thing you can just seal while out on the field... But I suppose I can hold it for now."

His hand outstretched in a silent request, it takes you a bit to relinquish the stone to him, a bit concerned that, like Saki, he would simply fall over after grabbing it, but while his expression did change upon grasping the stone, it was an expression that was more confused than anything else.

"...Although, having said that, it seems that the world is out to prove me wrong," handing the stone back to you, the red-haired youth shrugs, "Looks like this one is already sealed... But that's not possible...."

His expression was like that of a student struggling to come to some sort of answer, and one hand rises to rest on his chin.

"Is your friend some sort of prodigy? That stone was definitely active a few minutes ago..."

Mumbled as his words were, it probably wasn't a real question, and rather, was just a sign that the boy was talking to himself.

"Megumi... Stop, you and I both know I don't need to wear the cast...!"

    "Doctor's orders."

    "But-"

"No buts, you're not using that arm until it heals-!"

"If I was normal this wouldn't actually heal at all-!"

Off to the side of you both, it seemed that Megumi had succeeded somewhat in raising Liane's mood, looking very much like a mother fussing over her kid's wounds, and while the sight of Liane's slightly childish side emerging at the prospect of having her arm moved into a sling is rather endearing, the feel of your friend's body stirring ever so slightly in your arms draws your attention back to her.

    ESPers never stayed down long.

"Sorry about that everyone, I know this just keeps getting worse and worse for you guys... Did anyone get seriously hurt?"
“I’m only a bit battered, and they also seem like they are as well. Nothing I believe we can’t handle,” I say, being presumptuous, trying to assure Sora that she had done her job, which she had. I’d rather be barely living than dead. On the other hand, my plan was reckless, foolhardy, and shortsighted, even if it did get the job done.

“I apologize for being so bellicose,” my words completely sincere. “Sora, or Kuzunoha Geirin, is it?—had told me earlier that she could stop it with a distraction. I had overestimated my own capabilities and made the whole situation much more of a debacle than I desired it to be.”

Now, now, what is Sora hiding? She seemed to be quite straightforward, but a Grand Summoner seems to imply that she is more than she seems. It seems she’s not as open as I thought, and perhaps I should become more paranoid with my own judgments instead, doubting everything and everyone. I’d rather live my life in a successful, if cutthroat way, than die because I happened to give anyone the benefit of the doubt.

“Now. Grand Summoner, was it? Or is this something that does not need explaining, best left hidden in the dark?”

A wry smile forms on my lips, but I’m hardly amused.
