This leads me to wonder if Homestuck is legitimately terrible, or if it's decent and the fanbase and overabundance of trolls has merely tainted my opinion of it. For all I know it might be a meta commentary on the tendency of webcomics to become wrapped up in themselves over time on some level of irony I've yet to understand. Hussie is a genius, after all.

It is kind of telling that his main characters in Sin City, unrepentant killers and thugs, are more likable than Frank Miller's Batman. Except for Dark Knight Returns where he was actually a crotchety old man, so he had justification to act like an ass (even though he seemed way more likable and tolerant).

If someone asks me "what Superman comic do you recommend, I don't know or care about 70 years of storylines and reboots" I would recommend that one. It distills all the best parts of Superman down into a single series. It does assume the reader has general knowledge of Superman's origin and premise, but you don't need to know about all the other stuff and can figure most of it out along the way.

Personal opinion: there was no "creativity decline", Miller always wrote the same kind of stories, only in the beginning they were toned down because they were written early on. Nothing changed in Miller, people just started opening their eyes on Miller's stories.
