I liked the short, but I kinda expected Kirei to say something like "Excellent, now do it without tricks" and for it to continue until she admits defeat.

It would be pointless.
By using a trick she admits (or rather, has realized) that some things can't be done just by ability, which was the entire point.
Training is to help the trainee improve, not to crush their spirit.

Good short. I'm not too proud to admit that, for a shining moment before I remembered who the main character theoretically was, I actually thought it was going to be Maiya. It's kinda nice to see Kirei being good-ish here, and Noel the idea of Noel as a NEET is just plausible enough to be hilarious.
Of course, now I want her to interact with Rin beyond this, but that's probably asking too much.

Yep, it was only a couple of days ago.
It is interesting to read and I liked it, and for some reason the image of Noel teaching Rin how use a computer to do internet shopping comes to my head as a result of re-reading it.
And then I laugh at the idea of Rin using a computer until I remember Fate/Extra, even if it is technically a different Rin.
