I thought this was really sweet, Mark Hamil looking back on his audition for the role of "Luke Starkiller".

Saw Rise of Skywalker last night. Basically, if you liked Force Awakens you'll probably like it, it's more of the same. It doesn't so much retcon Last Jedi as barely mention it happened at all. The main beats are still there, Luke's a ghost, Rose exists, Kylo and Rey have a weird Force Skype going on, but aside for the last one none of them have much impact on the story.
As everyone thought, they go super hard into Rey's family and lineage, and do a bunch of gymnastics to mesh both the "she's a nobody" and "Of course she's related to someone important" camps together, to marginal success. I think I would have appreciated it more if I didn't see it coming from a mile away, or get bludgeoned by the Nature vs Nurture argument. If it was Rey herself who said nothing matters but what she chooses to be, it would be so much more tolerable rather than having to be told it a bunch of times by other people. Would also show character growth from the person constantly obsessed over her lineage to grow above it and be comfortable with who she is.
The biggest WTF moment in the story is about Rey's timeline. They say that the reason she was abandoned as a child was because the Emperor was hunting her parents, but she's 20? 25? The Emperor has been dead near 30 years by the time of Force Awakens.
JJ Abrams continues to show that he's a good director with no style of his own, but who excels in copying the styles of other directors. It's too bad that none of those directors are good fight directors, the one-on-one Rey vs Kylo fights are neat, but the climax tries to do group fight that falls far short of the climax of TLJ (you know the throne room scene, that's 45 minutes from the end but feels like more of a climax than the ending of the movie).
Lot's of puppets all over the place, including a cute snek.
8/10, about the same as Force Awakens, has more weight in it's conclusion due to the three movie build up so it feels more satisfying, but also has a bunch of issues that arise from twisting hard away from Last Jedi.

I quite liked the movie. I won’t say they ignored the last one. On discord I mentioned that in my book the movies weakest scenes where the parts where they had to go unravel some old plot threads so they could rebuild it into a better story.
Like, B- but solid B to B+ if you ignore the points where they were having to take time and fix the last movie
I wasn't sure at first but I dislike it.
It's not ignoring the last movie, more like they try to bring it up as little as possible, rather than building off of it. Or maybe it just feels that way since the whole last movie had a lot of running around in circles.
It honestly gives TLJ a Gaiden-ish feel, where it's the same setting but a side adventure that adds some events to be referenced later, but has no real progression on the story.

Welp, Disney's Sequel Trilogy is finally over. Stick a fork in it, it's done.
Good riddance, now we can hopefully move on from this car crash.
This and S8 of Game of Thrones was fantastic for generating shitposts on how dumb they were.
Trash movie lol
It's honesty amazing how this film also retroactively makes the sequel trilogy worse, and it was already in dire straits. The amount of creative sabotage between the production people creating this is just too funny.
Scorsese truly is a prophet.
We already are, with Clone Wars S8 and a new series of movies out by 2022 or so. Not to mention all the renewed comic runs (Vader, Aphra, Star Wars, two manga focusing on Leia's youth). Fallen Order 2.
The only thing the Sequel trilogy will be remembered for is how forgettable they are.

That said I honestly look forward to see what they do with Rey in future content. Maybe they'll raise the stakes and have her be the one to deal with bigger bads like the Yuuzhan Vong which I wouldn't mind as long as they develop her character more, along with Finn's. Maybe bring back Phasma, etc.

If you came into Star Wars for the plot prepared to be disappointed, imao.
Ok, I watch the movie and even if the most of the spoilers were true I really liked it. Well, at least can say that is miles better that The Last Jedi, that was shit (but not so shit like The Phantom Menace that I hate).
Maybe it don't bother me because I'm not a hardcore fan of the franchise so I don't register the inconsistences of lore with powers and setting? I don't know.
Spoiler:
I liked TFA. Just came back from TLS and holy shit it was so bad in nearly every aspect.
Like, I could almost enjoy this as long as people were fighting and shutting up but every time I got into it a new retarded plot point would come up and I'd facepalm hard enough to be heard three rows over.

Disney CEO: "We need to appeal to the kids these days. How do we do that?"
Staff: "Er... well that 'animu' stuff seems really popular. Why don't we let Japan have a go at it?"
CEO: "Excellent! I'll get on the phone immediately. I know just the theatre company that specialises in Kabuki. Kids will love it"
Staff: "Uh..."
So yeah, the life of Kylo Ren as "Kairennosuke" told in three acts. It just goes to show that Kylo Ren's character could have been far more interesting had JJ/RJ known what the hell they were doing.
I'd argue Johnson did, myself.
So... How well liked is Episode VI among you guys and the fanbase in general? I just watched it and to be blunt I think it's pretty shit. I can't believe how much time was wasted on Jabba and Ewoks on the finale of the trilogy.
For context, I've only watched the original trilogy and Rise of Skywalker so far, and I liked them all except for Return of the Jedi (though I'm missing all context for the new trilogy, so that may change once I watch the rest).
I liked RoTJ, even if I think it's the weakest of the original Six movies it was still an entertaining watch which capped off the story.
True
Weaker than the infamous prequels? Wow
They felt more powerful in the other movies to be honest, if only because of how much trouble Luke had with random underlings in this one, despite apparently having finished his training.
Empire Strikes Back is still my favorite for now.
It's my favourite Star Wars movie. I absolutely loved the scenes in the Emperor's throne room, and everything else was really entertaining.
I haven't watched the original trilogy in more than a decade so I can't really comment on them anymore, but I didn't find the prequel trilogy as bad as people said, and Revenge of the Sith is certainly a better movie than all 3 of the sequels put together.

Seriously, if you just get over Jar Jar Binks existing and the whole podrace subplot with Annie, The Phantom Menace is actually pretty interesting. And the duel at the end, with Duel Of the Fates playing in the background, will always be peak Star Wars for me.
