As the spider’s fangs near you, you instinctively raise your blade in defense. Doing so bears you the pain of getting bitten near the jugular, instead getting bitten slightly across the forearm.

Akito has suffered 85 physical damage
Akito is poisoned (Tier 2, lose 15 health per turn for 4 turns)

Wincing as you feel the hot poison spreading across your veins, you urge your body to move as you slash across the body of the nearby arachnid with all your strength. Lightning runs across the newly opened wound of the spider, making it scream in pain.

??? has suffered 20 magical damage.

Dice roll for lightning effect: 6

??? is stunned for a single turn!

Your lightning was far more effective than you had bargained for. Twitching in front of you is an immobile enemy, too paralyzed to move properly due to the lightning ravaging her body muscles from within. If this wasn’t a chance, you didn’t know what else was!

    --------
    End turn

Akito has taken 15 poison damage.

    Battle won.
    Renown: 100 + (15%) = 115
    Morale gain: 15% -> 80%

The battle ends easily as you and your subordinates clean up the last stragglers of the enemy forces. Even if they were only half of the supply forces, that that many troops down would mean something, especially when you are now capable of directly taking control of their forward supply lines as long as you clean out the remaining enemies down with the carriages of weapons and food.

As your men take care of the dead bodies of allies and enemies alike, your vice-captain is tending towards the slaves. Some had ran, but about sixty of them were still sitting around. Half of them were happy to be free, and the rest were just scared shitless mostly due to you and your vice’s racial….characteristics. Considering lizard-based monsters were rather common in the Nithelig mountains, that was a rather natural response for those from small mountain villages.

At least your bloodlust had fallen after the battle had ended, and you had all your urges under control. Your vice captain had a better case of control of her racial urges thanks to her blessed equipment, but you knew she also was trying her best not to fall into the pits of madness tied with her monster heritage.

As you walk up towards the freed slaves, one of them catches your eye. He is rather brawny, but his body is battered and bruised, as well as sporting many a whip lash. Your experienced eye catches the characteristics of a trained warrior. Perhaps a previous soldier, sold into captivity?

    The man meets your gaze.

    Spoiler:

(ignore the cell phone and gaudy clothes)

“Whatcha lookin at, Lizard man? First time seein’ a man from the gladiator pits?”

Even in this situation the man doesn’t lose his cool. He has the eyes of one who has gone through several battlefields, more than one of them bloody, considering he had numerous scars covering his body other than the whip lashes as well.

“Before we do anythin’, can we get a bite first? All of us here, we’re pretty famish’d.”

Apparently the slaves had been getting the short end of the stick here as well, no surprises there. Food wasn’t too plentiful when the army was on rations and the slave troops were usually the first to lose out.

The first wave of orcs were taken down easily but as soon as they fell the next two groups took up their spots and started attacking my men, it was to be expected...these beasts didn't seem to know the meaning of fear even after their comrades fell as easily as they did. I suppose I didn't really mind that though...if they did get away from us then they would just go on to pillage another village and more blood would be spilt.

    I wouldn't let that happen.

It was time to press the attack.

As I moved forward taking a flanking position to help the infantry, Leissa and her group of archers and spear men advanced as well, positioning themselves for the trolls that were soon to arrive.

    "Lets end this quickly!"

With that order I rushed as my men roared in acknowledgement, these orcs would not live to regret their folly.

    Actions:
    All troops move.

Spearmen attack Orc Warriors 4 with Javelins (90-20=70).
Leissa attacks Orc Warriors 4 (90-20=70).
Archers attack Orc Warriors 4 (90-20=70).
Aldo attacks Orc Warriors 4 (50-20=30).

Lea Infantry 1 attack Orc Warriors 3 (90-20=70).
Lea Infantry 2 attack Orc Warriors 3 (85-20=65).
Cavalry attack Orc Warriors 3 (80-20=60).

    Phantom
    ???
    Cursed Island of Demons

Nezerif’s eyes glinted as your fist roared forward to meet her strength. Her previous surge of energy was gone now, making her rather vulnerable to your massive strength - however, she didn’t change her trajectory, and plunged her tiny fist into your armored one.

The result was cataclysmic, in one way or another. The massive power that shook the very air and earth. The result, however, was pretty one-sided.

After all, only one fist was the superior one.

    Punisher stroke deals 55+145 damage = 200
    1.5x200= 300
    Phantom takes 300 damage.

    Fist strikes 60 damage
    60x0.7=42 -> rounded down to 40
    Nezerif takes 40 damage.
Nezerif’s arm pops as her bone breaks partially, part of her skeleton piercing her skin as it oozes black blood. She glances at it briefly, before slamming the bone back in, watching the wound start to mend slowly.

On the other hand, your fist is totally blown away by the energy it had taken head on. Starting from the edge of your very fingers to the end of your shoulder, half of the flesh was totally blown up while the bone and sinews were broken beyond simple regeneration. Of course, with some help, time, and meat, it would heal easily - however, you still took far more damage than your enemy did….It had also nearly cost you your life.

Despite you not being at full power due to your long captivity, this was still a mortifying defeat. You, who had even crossed arms with Makhim, were now reduced to fighting something of their make.

Still, it seems you weren’t strong enough yet. You would have to...eat more, absorb more in order to regain the power of your prime.

    “Well, that’s game, isn’t it?”

Nezerif makes her Soul Weapon return to her body as she swings about her arm that had fractured, as if it was already healed. Well, a little meal and she would be good as new. You, on the other hand, needed some help with the necromancers.

“At least you entertained me, Phantom. I guess I’ll keep an eye on you.”

As she said that, you feel a small shiver run through your spine.

“On a side note, you’d probably want to see the necromancers for that arm. Take this. maybe it’ll help you heal faster, who knows. Nyahahaha-”

Picking up part of her bone that had fallen on the ground, she tosses it at you, which falls through the air and lands in your large mouth. At least you didn't swallow.

    ----------------------------------------------

    Battle End

    You gain 40 reknown. (+10% = 44)
You gain Material: Nezerif’s Bone Fragment (used for demonic item crafting or necromancer catalyst): Level: Unique

The tired paladin looks at the girl and her small sack of coin and smiles from the depths of his heart. Baldur shakes his head as he gently declines her offer. Surrounded by the survivors and hearing their thanks, sharing their tears, holding their hands; Baldur did not exactly believe in all of the tenants and scriptures of the Church. But this feeling he felt as everyone thanked him. This is why he joined Sharistan clergy and forces. Baldur smiles as he thinks to himself.

It feels good to be a hero.

    --------------------------

Baldur and his ragtag group of survivors slowly made their way towards the nearby fort. He had spent the night in the village, burying and cleansing the dead and preparing for the trek. There was no way the remaining villagers could stay with many of their men dead from the demoness' onslaught. So Baldur took it upon himself to escort them to the fort in hopes that they could shelter the survivors.

Thankfully, I managed to avoid being fatally hit. I managed to avoid being bit on my jugular however I forgot the most important thing about spiders. Poison. My thought of taking advantage of the monster's weakpoint was nearly impossible as I felt my body slowly shut itself down from the spider's poison. It took everything I had to swing my blade towards the spider. Even then I only damaged it because it was weak to magic. I can't dodge it nor can I defeat its defences. However, I can wear it down substantially while it’s stunned. First eliminate the enemy’s mobility. I focused my energy into using an iaijutsu aimed at the spider’s legs while switching Kisetsu’s element from lightning to metal.

    “White Lightning Flash!”

That should lower it’s ability to move substantially assuming it can move at all. After using it, I activated my Ninja ancestor’s Stealth skill to prevent the Spider from doing any possible retaliatory moves towards me as well getting the advantage to surprise attack it if it can still move.

Despite our loses, we continue to advance onward.

Thrusting myself headfirst into battle, I somehow manage to concentrate the attention of our foes. Then, with the coordinated efforts of my allies, we push the enemy back. Though we ran into this fight vastly overpowered, we've managed to turn the tides... Somehow... The bodies of the fallen return once again to the earth and the wings of the demonic vanguard are removed from the sky. One by one, the bodies of our adversaries pile up on the battlefield and, in an instant, two more of the enemy's units have fallen.

"Don't let up. Now is our chance to deliver a decisive blow."

I say this aloud; however, I cannot bring myself to throw my voice across the grassy plain. As I said before, hot-blooded speeches and rallying cries simply do not suit me. Regardless though, I still feel the need to communicate this thought during this moment. And though I am sure that my men cannot hear my meek voice, at the same time, I'm more than confident that they do not need to. As brothers and sisters in arms, our sentiments should be the same.

A painful amount of lives have been lost... And I've even lost my sentinel... However it has not all been in vain. Through all of our collective efforts, we have managed to both gauge, manipulate, and exhaust our opponents. Though the exchange has been tough and the moments between tense, it's all going to pay off now.

Gripping the brilliant, white sword once more, I face the wave of undead before me. Taking a brief moment to take in their disfigured faces, I offer up a single, silent prayer for the deceased villagers. Once I'm done, I commit to a single swipe of my sword and unleash a torrent of light upon them all.

    "May you find peace..."

After resting up, you pack your bags and continue on your way, tucking the slimes back into your bags - they seemed content munching away at the moss you put in. At least they wouldn't be a problem until you forgot to feed/water them, right? Nori took out a handbook and was checking the materials needed again, but you still had to go a bit ways downwards before any of those would be seen.

    Corstein - Mineral - Found at B4
    Firestone - Mineral - Found at B4
Warped Misog Roots - Plant - Found at B3
Tors Flower - Plant - Found at B3
Magic Stone Powder - Rare drop, Mineral - Found at B6, from Rock type monsters
Apart from the Powder, it was rather easy to get the rest. Considering your previous progress, any liabilities would be not the actual mine crawling, but the actually 'finding' and 'extracting' the ingredients needed without messing up. Although in that case, as said before, only the Powder was of any issue.

    ----------------

Moving on through the Windy Corridors, a set of ravines with actual pitfalls that would kill a normal person if not careful, you feel the rustling of wind passing through the various holes in the walls. This area was full of holes due to the many animals that used to live around the ground, allowing wind to blow in from the various openings. Sometimes even rain would fall through the holes,, filling up the pitholes and allowing some of the more adventurous people to dive in looking for the remains of former passerby or rare items that might have fallen into the depths. Today was a dry day, though - and the fences set up across the areas were to prevent most falls.

One issue was the various number of mutant bats that lived in this area. They were usually calm and only ate bugs, but the larger ones would actually attack humans at points. Not to mention the large cockroaches, which were disgusting, and the other types of bug 'monsters' that were overgrown due to the magical property of the many plants that grew in the mines.

Mirron started to work on how much distance was left before they would reach what they needed. They could easily get the remaining materials without hassle. Even if the Magic Stone Powder took a bit of time, they might even be able to get it all wrapped up before much time had passed. Unless someone had recently gone through and cleared out large amounts of those materials, there wouldn't be much reason to worry about this. So long as they had supplies enough to make it back, even with some delays, they should be good. Mirron was mildly worried about the slimes, but considering the low maintenance of feeding them, the only possible concern would be if they somehow managed to run out of water. He'd have to abandon them well before it reached that point though, and they had refilled earlier, so there shouldn't be any chance of them running out unless the last item ran too long.

Of course, the Windy Corridors had it's own dangers. The easiest method would be to try and keep quiet. Though he had a couple of plans in case the bats proved to be a particular nuisance. Before they started into it, Mirron took the time to explain the area to Nori. She likely had heard something about it, but it was always a good idea to go over it twice. It may have come off a bit more patronizing than he meant, but he wasn't going to lead Nori into a dangerous situation without preparation. "I have a few methods to distract the bats, but for now just try and keep quiet. Especially try not to let the wildlife in here get to you." It had been a lot easier when he was going through on his own, but having a second person meant that they could split the weight of all the supplies more evenly. Besides, it was good practice for Nori, and it was practice that he wasn't going to have to teach her personally.

    Cursed Island of Demons

What was it Nezerif had thrown into his mouth, apparently she had said that it would help with the healing process. It must of been quite something if was she said was true and...the taste, it was familiar to Phantom, yet distinct at the same time.

It seemed to be just a scrap of bone, going by how hard it was. That or a rock, which was doubtful considering...

Yes, this was definitely a delicacy Phantom had long waited to find an excuse to feast on once more...

Demon, and not just any demon either.

He grinned at his good fortune, it seemed that battle had been even more worthwhile then he first thought. Now he could take Nezerif's advice and take this to the necromancers, but the humans in this realm had a wise, old saying: You are what you eat.

Yes, wise words indeed, especially for the cursed dragon which they applied to quite literally.

With a gulp, he swallowed the fragment and felt the effects instantly. Power surged through his very being and his arms began to reform before his very eyes. She had said that it would help, but this speed was astonishing, even more so considering that the healing process wasn't being augmented by the Necromancers.

But most important, the taste...the taste! If there was such a thing as a demon heaven, Phantom was now in it. The common meat of an underling or the new mix of human and demon just could not compare to this!

    "Delicious!"

Phantom exclaimed, shouting high into the air, his fists clenched and his wings spread. Every demon on the island would have been sure to hear him with that shout of ecstasy. However just as quickly as the feeling had overwhelmed him, it left.

Puzzled, Phantom closed and opened his hands. They had been remade, yes, but they still felt...weak? Strange, it seemed he would have to pay the necromancers a visit after all. Sighing, he found the closest group of them and gave a simple command:

    "Heal me."

Clearing out the dead bodies proved to not take too long, considering you had some fuel at handy near the bunkers in case. The KW and AW were sent by Sasha to guard over the entrance of the mines while you two burned the bodies a bit of a distance away, fanning the ashes.

That took only a little while. As you finished clearing out the bodies and guts and piling them onto the bonfire, you find a little gem of sorts glowing with purple energy. Not knowing what it does, you take a good look at it. It seems to be pulsing with some sort of energy…

    [You found: Purple Gem (?)]

You decide to take a good look at it when getting back to the city.

Just as you two finish up, the AW pilot calls over the intercom, cue you and Sasha returning to your Mechs.

[Master Smith, there seems to be a problem with one of the traps at A-7. It’s one of those pithole traps…”

Sasha’s face turns grim as she hears the news.

“Oh seriously, this is why people that slack off during trap-clearing are the worst. I know what the issue is, as a hunch: the pitfall traps are one of the best ones for catching tons of enemies and finishing them off, but since they are deep and full of stench due to rotten bodies, people don’t clear them out properly. There must have been a ton of goblins or orcs passing by and basically, the bodies piled up high enough to clog up the inner mechanics….”

She hoisted up a large barrel of fuel.

“Can’t be helped, our mission is to roll out and secure the perimeter around the trap, and clear it out. We’ll use the secret passages to get in without meeting any enemies, if possible. The KW will stay in this area and keep a lookout on the trap status panel and for any enemies.”

The KW pilot does a quick salute and takes his post next to the entrance, while Sasha leads the way to the secret entrances.

    ------------------------

Passing through the secret doorway into the mine shafts, you admire the craft of your forefathers, the intricate design of the traps along the way. Sasha was nice enough to give you a full detail on how each one worked as well, just so none of you would set off any by accident.

Finally, you arrive in the area of the pitfall trap. The trapdoor seemed to be clogged to nearly the top with still-alive monsters, which was not good. Sasha wasted no time - she threw the barrel of fuel inside the hole, and as she did, threw a small firebomb into the hole. The whole pit soon was a roaring hellfire, with the screams of monsters covering the air.

Not good. As soon as their screams resounded, you hear the pitter patter of goblin feet.

The first group of orcs fell under the concentrated fire of your men, finished off with a blow of your sword. The javelins impaled many an orc, sending them to the ground, while Leissa's bursts of magic bullets felled even more orcish warriors. The archers, cleaning up, with you landing the finishing blows to the last few made an epic picture of a troop working as one.

Meanwhile, the second and last group managed to put in a few counterattacks to fight off your men - alas, to no avail, in the end they were trampled into the dust by your cavalry, not to tell any tales of their bravery or feats on the battleground to their descendants - dead and gone, like many an orc before them.

    Battle calcs:
    Lea infantry 1 -> orc warriors 3 (70 damage) -> 115 hp (12)
    Orc warriors 3 -> lea infantry 1 (52 - 40) = 12 -> 10 (290)

    Lea infantry 2 -> orc warriors 3 (65 damage) -> 50 (5)
    orc warriors 3 -> lea infantry 2 (45 -40) = 5 damage (265)
    Enemies -6 morale
From your first troop, only one man falls valiantly in battle. From the second, one man is severely wounded, but still battle ready - no casualties. As for your cavalry - they were untouched.

Now, only the two lumbering trolls were left - however, they were more of a threat compared to the orcs single handedly. They boasted the power of regenerative blood - a handy item if you could later take it off them.

The two trolls moved forward, giant clubs in their hands. The other starts walking towards your cavalry, but the foremost one comes straight up to you and smashes down with its club.

    ------------------

You may post a reaction post+your next action post.
Basically, write your action regarding the enemy attack (Defense phase), your counterattack (since it is melee, and you have melee capabilities, you have a counterattack phase, and your own turn).

I slammed into the last vestiges of the enemy, when you fight in enough battles, you can taste the end in the air itself. And as I collided with the last of the defenders, I felt the end.

Several minutes later, I took a steadying breath, pulling myself back from the frenzy of battle, I strode over to where the Berserkers had fallen in droves, setting up the beginnings of the burials, cremation wasn't an option, tactically-speaking, it'd give away our positon, and I wasn't about to let the fact that droves of my men had died drag the rest of us down.

But I was there, doing what I could. Perhaps, if i'd manuevered them better, we wouldn't have sustained such losses. But the aftermath of combat is filled with 'perhaps's and maybes, I'd have to move forward.

After the second row had finished, I handed off the overseeing duties to a trusted subordinate, and strode towards where the slaves, those who had stuck around, anyway, and gathered themselves. A few on the outside spotted my approach, and I could smell their fear. I didn't blame them, lizard 'beastmen' are common around the Irontimbers. My own... clan? Tribe? Family, had come from not too far away.

Of course, I didn't remember much of it.

I espied Loires leading up the treatment of the no-longer-slaves, and I caught her eye, nodding sharply. A big man turned to face me as I approached, tattoos, piercings, scars, not all of them from whips, either. This one took blows on the front.

He looked like a warrior, stood like one too. He sized me up in return, meeting my gaze.

"Whatcha lookin' at, Lizard man? First time seein' a man from the gladiator pits?"

I had to admire his guts, I tended to put people off, and they'd seen me tearing into the enemy with tooth and claw, I'm pretty sure I'd gotten most of it off, though.

“Before we do anythin’, can we get a bite first? All of us here, we’re pretty famish’d.”

As expected, cannon fodder isn't exactly expected to survive long, why waste resources? It was disgusting, really, but it wasn't the first example I'd see, nor was it like to be the last.

"S'Diomedes. An' I'll see what I can rustle up, got a name, guy?"

I wasn't exactly the greatest talker in the world, but I had a feeling this guy wasn't either.

Heart of Mountains - Reiziel City of Stone
    Morale: 80
    Supplies: X (no army yet)

Once we have finished cleaning and burning the mess that these pests left around this area, I opted to idle myself for a bit and look around. And if I didn't do that, I probably wouldn't have found this purple gem lying in the ground. I can only assume that this came from the monsters and I did not consider that assumption as absolute fact due to the gem not being covered with fluids when I first found it. While the pile of corpses burned on from afar, we opted to leave it after controlling the flames for a few moments to ensure that everything will be consumed and turned into ashes.

When I got back to the city, I took a more thorough inspection on the gem. It was then when I noticed that it was only purple because it shone a light in such color, otherwise the gem would only be clear and translucent by itself. I also felt some sort of force or aura emanating from it, and it felt as if it was giving out its energy in waves or pulses. To be honest, I was never a magician nor someone knowledgeable in arcane arts, as that field of expertise was almost solely reserved to the Elves or other races. And as such, I don't exactly know any specific Elor who can help me in identifying such items. By then, I decided that I must keep the little gem in a tiny metal box and bring it with me while I'm still in guard duty, maybe our jewelers can help me in identifying this gem once I get a chance. Until then, I will keep in my Knight Walker frame.

And then, an intercom message was transmitted by someone. This pilot reported that one of the pit hole traps in Sector A-7 is having some sort of problem in it. It turns out that somebody who as assigned to clean that trap just didn't care.

"I don't even like seeing these carcasses, yet I don't slack off in cleaning them. I mean, it's utterly disgusting, right? So why is it that some damned git can't do this job properly?" I commented about the whole situation, as a reply to Sasha. I mean, seriously, just repairing or constructing one trap that elaborate would take a week of work, and that includes the calibration and testing. Now, a week might not seem much, but the manpower and material used in such assembly can better be put into other and more vital things, such as making new weapons or frames, aside from the fact that we have to find a way to redirect any attacking force away from that sector while such work is ongoing. Whoever this slacker is, we can only say that we cannot blame him if he didn't clean the pit trap properly out of disgust, however we can blame him if ever attackers slip past our defenses because we have to clean the mess he refused to deal with.

As such, Sasha took a barrel of fuel with her, while saying...

“Can’t be helped, our mission is to roll out and secure the perimeter around the trap, and clear it out. We’ll use the secret passages to get in without meeting any enemies, if possible. The KW will stay in this area and keep a lookout on the trap status panel and for any enemies.”
Looks like we'll be the replacements for the guy who called in "sick" and won't clean the pit trap, and we'll get there via the secret passages.

Now, the interesting thing about the secret passages are they are full of intricate traps designed by our predecessors, our ancestors. Sasha guided me and told me how each of them worked, mainly because it was my first time there and I certainly didn't want to get caught in those traps, some of them designed to maim their victims. I have read about these secret passages a few times during my reading breaks in the archives of the city and they were remarkable already even if only by written descriptions, but seeing them work in the flesh made me marvel at them more. I can only imagine that the people who created these traps wasted no time and effort in the process of designing, forging and assembling them, more so that they still function perfectly until now. Come to think of it, while we, the current generation of Elor, just maintained the traps in proper working order and copied the designs of our forerunners, it makes me wonder how hard was it for them to come up with their own designs with nothing to base from, create them and make them work. Well, perhaps, it only reminds me that the spirit of invention and creation within our race is one thing that those other races don't have, one thing they would never take away from us and, as such, we must maintain it, like how we maintain our machines properly.

After a few moments of walking around the secret passageways, we finally reached the problematic pit hole trap in A-7 left uncleaned by a problematic person supposedly assigned to do so. It was worse than I expected: The pit was just so full of bodies that it almost was beyond its full capacity and the victims on the topmost layer of the bodies were actually still alive. One of them was trying to get out of the pit by reaching the edge of the hole and maybe it would actually crawl out of there if I didn't kick it back. And this is where the barrel of fuel that Sasha brought with her come in, as she threw it hard into pit enough for it to break, and then tossed a small incendiary bomb to actually burn everything in it, reducing everything into ashes. Soon enough, the monsters still alive in the pit started screaming, whining and crying loudly in pain as they were consumed by the flames, along with their dead fellows lying mangled by the metal teeth and edges of the pit trap's mechanics. While I was watching them burn, I thought to myself that this is how I wanted all these uninvited creatures to end, being eaten by one massive pit in the ground, to be consumed for all eternity by flames that can never be extinguished by anyone else. It was just a fitting conclusion to their existence that is beyond ignobility, as I'm pretty sure of myself that these despicable beasts are also a problem by races other than us. Perhaps such unexplored desire to see my enemies end in this way unconsciously influenced me to design and build the Fire Siphon mounted on my Walker. But even if it didn't, I am completely satisfied that I have done so and can now see these ugly creatures on fire whenever I like to do so.

However, there was a side effect from hearing the monsters' cries of agony and pain: Such loud noise attracted more of them to attack our position, instead of driving them away out of fear that they would be the next fodder to either the traps or the manned defensive positions in the nearby outpost. In fact, we can already hear the sound of their footsteps approaching our position.

As such, I then asked Sasha. "Well, here they come again. What are going to do now?"

Village Square - Village Hammoe, near Fort of As’tagio
    HP: 125/360
    MP: 150/200
    Morale: 74/100

As you arrive near the steel and wood doors of the fort, the sentry hails you. Apparently they knew you were coming this way, and made promptly to open the gates for you and the straggling villagers. As you enter the fort, the Lord of the fort approaches you.

“You have my thanks, dear Paladin. I would have sent some of my men to back you up if news of the attack had reached us earlier, but it seems you have done well on your own. Please, come in and rest for a while before continuing on your journey. Also, I will have my men take care of the procedure of having the survivors settle down near the fort, where they can stay until they are set to provide for themselves.”

Brought inwards, you see that the fort isn’t too shabby. Your survivors won’t have a hard time resettling, considering the lord looked a rather decent person, his men honest and just.

“I heard you were supposed to be heading to the capital, Sir Paladin. Being appointed as a general against the demon scum that dares threaten our lands, no?”

While walking into the Lord’s castle, hesignals to one of his maids, who promptly brings you a flask of yellow liquid.

“A health potion from Solas, merged with the light of Sharis. This should help with your wounds somewhat.”

As you take the flask in your hands, a tall girl in with long brown hair and a mischievous grin walks into the hallway and starts staring at you.
    Spoiler:

For some reason she's wearing a maid's uniform, although it seems rather....customized.

“Now, Laura. It’s not polite to just stare at guests like that. Pardon me, my daughter is a bit...odd at times. Ever since she received Sharis’s blessing of faith two years ago she’s been rather...overenthusiastic over some things…”

The girl slowly advances, staring at you continuously with a sly grin on her face. It's the kind that would normally want to make you kind of want to back down and retreat, for no actual reason.

As your light smashes against the zombies, decaying flesh breaks open and burns as the magic eats away at the undead-ness within, cutting their strings to this world. The bodies evaporate, dissipating in a grey mist that spiraled into the skies as if their souls had been released from their shackles to this world.

Only the skeletons and the necromancers remained.

The giant arrows of the snipers whizz through the air, smashing into the ranks of the necromancers who were on the verge of fleeing. Each arrow impales the bodies of the demons that try to either evade or cast spells to protect themselves, although failing through the process and being smashed into pieces of meat or impaled to the ground.

And only the skeletons remained. However, something unsuspecting happened.

The skeletons, with their summoners cut from them, lost control and started wandering erratically, not being able to adjust. Some of them just started falling apart, breaking into bone. Apparently, unless their summoners were in the same area with them, they would wander around on their own and not act as a group.

The Sentinel’s initial barrage cleaned up quite a number of them, and the remaining wanderers were quickly dispatched with your swords and your troops’ arrows.

    Battle won.
    Gained: 100 renown -> (110 with bonus)

    ---------------------

You had lost many a good elf on this battle, only from your first clash - nevertheless, every loss of elven blood was a tragedy. Young elves were hard to come by lately, and you could only hope the souls of the fallen would return to the cycle and be reborn anew one day.

As you clean up the bodies of the demons, you find yourself rather conflicted on how to deal with some of the crystallized ‘things’ and other items some of the demons had dropped. Filled with evil darkness, these ‘purple gems’ seemed rather important one way or another….

    Picked up:
    Purple Gem (?) x10
    Demon Bone x 30
    Demon Blade Fragments x15

It is up to you to decide how to take care of these things, considering you were general. However, the Council would probably be adverse to having such evil material being used....

As you consolidate your forces, a teleportation magic circle opens in the vicinity. You look on as a younger elf wielding a bow and arrow jumps out with some troops, saluting you.

"Ma'am! Uh, I'm Stella Noveci from the Rangers squad. We were to report to you that a rather high-level Demon had attacked a different village on the southeast of this location....They've left, but they managed to take out an entire village...."

Her voice drowns out as she gulps, as if wondering she'd be reprimanded for not being able to do her job. She was apparently a new member to the Rangers, but well - help was short handed lately, and even newbies that showed promise were given small squads as recon.

    ----------------

    Added troops:
    Stellia Noveci: Archer, Ranger
    x1 Elven Archers
    x1 Elven Mages

    Well then…

    It was time.

The very moment the orcs placed themselves in the adequate position, Liza held one of her hands on high, and a burst of fire, invisible at distance for the untrained eye, was shot in the air.

It was the signal for the Nithelig Troops to act.

Almost immediately, there was a bestial roar, a tremendous sound that would have sent into a panic the most trained of soldiers. But it was not the sound of a beast, but rather the technomagical howl of the artillery that was one of the Empire’s greatest weapons. A hail of magical cannon fire fell upon the fifth squad of orcs, razing them and the area behind. Billows of smoke rose in the air, covering the skies, and the ground shook like it was being prey to an earthquake.

She doubted any orc would have survived that, but she still followed the plan she had traced before. The cavalry moved swiftly, followed by the halberdiers and the archers, with the objective to clean up any survivor that there might have been.

At the very same time, the two warrior squads charged towards the seventh orc squad, their swords gleaming under the sun as they struck the orcs at the same time, giving them no time to recover at all. A second later, the gunner troops fired over the allies, seeking to finish the orcs off before they could even think of a counter-attack.

The Nithelig troops, well trained and disciplined, moved like clockwork, swiftly fulfilling their orders and moving through the field at a speed that no one would have suspected of them. They showed no hesitation in front of carnage, tearing apart their enemies with unexpected ease.

Meanwhile, Liza and Keim had moved towards the center of the battlefield. It was better if they conserved their energies for the trolls and the ogre, the bigger oncoming threats in the battlefield. However, in their position, they could easily reinforce any of the fronts if there was a need to.

It was time to see how the enemy would react to the sudden ambush.

Your slash lands cleanly on the legs of the crazed arachnid - however, to your dismay, the sword does not cut through the thick carapace. The aura, however, does penetrate -

    Dice roll for status effect
    Difficulty: 14

    Dice: 15
    Tier 1 Petrification activated

    Damage calc:
    40 str - 50 def -> 0 damage
    40 mag - 20 mr -> 20 damage

    White lightning flash x1.5
    30 damage

As the blade’s aura smashes the carapace, it leaves a blemish that slowly creeps up the creature’s leg, stopping at the joint - it had become a yellowish solidified object, unmovable as if cursed.

Enemy Arachne is affected by Petrification (leg)
-1 rank in AGI and DEX

    Roll: 8 / 10
Enemy fails dice roll in stabilizing.

The unbalance of her leg seriously seemed to be throwing off the large monster. Stumbling and not able to move straight, her counterattack totally misses you and she careenes into a wall headfirst.

    Enemy is concussed.
    Stunned for 1 turn.

This seems to be a chance for you. However, as you prepare yourself for your next attack, you see several eyes watching from the ceiling. Nothing malicious, though….different from the monster you were just fighting.

You look up. And see….5 little spiders, cowering in fear, trembling in their web.

Apparently the mother was only feeding her young - but then, why was she so crazed?

As you look back upon the monster's backside, you notice something you hadn't before. Your sharp eyes catch a glimpse of a black mark, looking like a sort of skull, flickering on the nape of her neck like some kind of flickering smoke. It seems similar to magic, but you cannot tell whatsoever - it was a type so alien to you that you couldn't fathom how to take care of it.

I managed to unstable this crazed beast. Now to finish it off... I feel the presence of something watching me. I quickly ready myself for another spider attack until I notice that the presence was not threatening. Instead, the presence was fear coming from five baby spiders... So that explains why there was more meat then normal however that still doesn't explain why the mother is so frenzied. I take a brief look at the stunned mother and found the source of this berserk rage. Someone had planted a black rune on it.

The easiest and most pragmatic thing would be just to kill while it was stunned. In fact, my ancestor's spirit was egging me to do that. Kill it before it has a chance to do the same to you. But I've never been one for killing unless it was absolutely necessary. I hop onto the stunned Spider's back to better see the mark. I'm not an expert at removing magic marks but I have something could. I switch Kisetsu's element from Metal to Wood.

"I'm sorry about this but I need you to stay still for this."

I smack the flat of Kisetsu's blade onto the spider's neck hoping to stun the spider while hopefully Wood dispels whatever this strange mark is doing.
