After thinking more about the movie, the more I'm disappointed with it. Hate to say it but way too much time was spent on establishing Sakura's character and her relationship with Shirou. Shinji is still poorly defined, what with people in the audience getting the impression that he's gay for Shirou and that's about it. Illya needed the scene where she and Shirou met after he bought groceries to be more than the psycho loli.

Also, the point of the first movie is establishing Shirou and Sakura. I agree that the Illya scene at the park should have been there, but as long as she's established properly in the second film it'll turn out alright. Only thing to do at this point is to wait and see with the second film.

The first 20 minutes or so is devoted to how Shirou and Sakura meet, and then they have a few scenes of heart-to-heart talking to each other.

Don't really see how that's an issue though. The Shirou/Sakura scenes were some of the best parts in my opinion.

I didn't say I disliked those scenes. It's just that most of the non-fight stuff felt more like it was trying to advance the story without building up the other characters in some way. Even if you're familiar with SN already the movie was pretty sparse in building up anyone other than Sakura and Shirou. As weird as it sounds, Saber not getting the characterization she needed is going to make the Alter stuff later one awkward.

I think that was the point. As many have alluded to (including myself) this film pretty much assumes you know the HF arc or at least most of the rest of Stay/Night. Characters like Saber, Rin, Archer, Lancer, Kojirou, Caster, Kuzuki, etc are all explored more in the other two routes. HF is mostly about Shirou, Sakura, Shinji, Rider and Illya, so it's not really too much of a surprise to see it focusing heavily on them. (Minus the later two so far for this film though, so really just Sakura and Shirou here)

tl;dr - presage flower knows what it's presenting and does what it can to let you know who the story is focused on. I personally don't think it's a bad approach, but it's not one that everyone is going to agree with either, as we can see. Again though, we're only seeing part of the presentation now with the first film. ufotable changed some things here and there and picked where to halt each point in the story for the films, so I'd say let's try not to judge too harshly until we have the completed product - even if it is at least two years away, I think. :|

Note: I honestly don't expect there to be too much action for the second film. I think the end point for movie 2 will likely be at the Matou household when Shinji gets stabbed, and iirc the only real action parts between where presage flower ends and that point is the encounter at the school where Shinji is holding Sakura hostage, and than at Illya's Castle with Alter's appearance before Shirou. I may have missed something else between that or have the possible end point for film 2 off, so feel free to correct if so.

That's I mean the story telling is bad: they failed to persuade the audiences believing what they are trying to present....

I have no idea what you're trying to say in the first line. As for the second, Sakura is the "heroine" in the sense of how the word is used when referring to the main love interest of a particular path in a VN

I love Illya and I'm perfectly fine with them pushing Illya off to the second movie.

And ufo focusing on Shirou and Sakura makes perfect sense too. You're meant to know the other characters from reading the other routes, and the central conflict in this route(and UBW too sure) is Shirou's inner struggle. It's more important to have his eventual choice between Sakura and his ideals hit hard than to show off the other side characters. It's also why I don't like Lancer vs. Assassin getting extended here quite as much.

I literally had days in the TM fandom, and not knowin much aboutt VNs overall, and i already knew what was a heroine in this context. Sakura is the heroine and have all the right to be called as such, she doesnt need to save kitties while wearin tighs , lol

Yeah, that was the one fight I felt lasted too long. We could have either gotten a shortened version of the Illya scene or a bit more of the Cursed Arm/Saber fight scene.
