Unless the event is clearly written to attack others or mock what happened, to me it looks like people is overreacting when there's still no reason to overreact. I see nothing wrong so far with what has been revealed about the event, frankly. And for what I know about the story that Nobu and Okita are based from, it doesn't seem like this is going to be a problem.
Also, I don't think they were aware of Korean's current event when they announced this. I suppose it shows the game is popular there, that's for sure. Bit of a bad timing, but that's all it feels like to me.

Japan has been Special in anime for at least as long as I've been keeping up with anime. That alone can't really be taken as an indicator of upsurge in nationalistic sentiment (not saying there's isn't one ofc there very much is), cause if you'd apply the same logic to the US being Special in media about the US...
Like the movies that are full of patriotism with the president being the hottest and coolest guy in the world, while sometimes making other countries the enemy that are full of terrorists.
Though if this movie was based in my country, it would make me laugh so hard I would fall from my seat.

Though to be fair to Koreans the awareness of Imperial Japan's crimes over them is so laughably lacking in Japan they tend to just assume the worst every time, and blame people they shouldn't.
