So I tried a run with neither Merlin nor SHerlock. Basically a run with only up to last year 2016 Nero fest available Servant.
Lancelot removed ALL of Nero's guts all the while beating the other 5 for Raff's super Amakusa to launch his NP as the finisher

Yeah, I noticed that. Which is kinda odd since last year I do remember it being taken into account for her buff denial. So either last year's was bugged, or this year's is.
Ugh, when I have time, I'll really have to catch up. Don't think I've posted in the FGO thread much since Nero Fest began, really.
Meanwhile, I have to wonder: how beatable is King Hassan WITHOUT an LBed Ishtar/Quetz CE on your DPS? Even with support Merlin, my Sanjou can't consistently kill the big and buff Hassan before King Hassan eats him.
Been managing OK in all the fights before (Da Vinci included); I'm a bit afraid to LB it now.
It's doable in theory, but not having it means the fight will go for much longer, meaning a lot more chances for the RNG to screw you over.
Finally cleared this pre-nerf. Lucky all of Cu Alter's Busters were there plus his NP. And no CS is even used.

Wasted all my CS on unwinning battles in pre-nerf Nero battle. Hmm, what was my team last year, I wonder. Remembered I brought support Kintoki, Jack, and Emiya.
2017 finale was easy though, thanks to ex-larethian's NP5 Amakusa (misplayed when I was using Rowan's Amakusa).

I think it would work, yes. But you would need a great Hijikata since that's NP 5 Cu Alter to compensate for his lack of def piercing. It's better to get Kintoki, IMHO.
Well a free 4*. Objectively I know I should go for a story lock. But in my heart I know. If I don't take regular Emiya now I will never get him.

NeroFes made me realize something.
I'm a really crappy player when it comes to high difficulty.
The only challenge quest that I defeated was the quest of Hassans in 2016.
Wasted 12 CS on a matter of days.
Lancer Quest ignores Ruler's defense.
A level 100 being defeated by a level 90 silver, and insta - death applies even with her invulnerability buff on. Makes sense.
Even Medb's quest that I defeated last year turns it on me.
Looks like having the Servant you want equates to challenge quests not going your way.
They really basically say "stick to farming, you F2P player!"
On my 6th box and got Nero's outfit. Saving grace, I guess.
