Looking at the numbers FGO does, even if that's the case I don't think it's working.

i'd argue there is a difference between messy start (to put it lightly) mismanagement
which seems to plague most game companies nowadays, both small and inexperienced as well as large and experienced with publisher's backing, its far from FGO exclusive
and
mismanagement of 3 year old game which prints millions of dollars on a daily basis

From the very beginning FGO has proven itself to be an unsustainable mess. The fact that it took this long for everyone to break out of delulu land and take off their rose tinted glasses is testament to the power of the TM brand name.

What we are witnessing is merely the natural conclusion of what happens when you attempt to attach Nasu and friends to a medium that lives or dies by its ability to provide a constant drip of dopamine to the gacha addicted monkeys that keep these shipwrecks afloat

If I'm remembering correctly in Granblue fantasy they release the monkey zodiac and one dude spent a shitton of money and still didn't get her. This led to suspicion about the gacha rates along with some very obvious backlash and the end result is that he got money refunded (can't remember if in game or irl) and a law being passed that required explicit stating of gacha rates being displayed, along with Granblue's current pity system. Well I might have made some mistakes but that's what I remember of it

Sounds about right. Though, missing there is probably whether he got other SSRs whilst rolling. And that there's no mandate for pity system, just the rates to be displayed. That's why FGO doesn't have a pity system and can still get away with it.

Technically, GO outdid Monkeygate by long shot, so the real surprise is how this remains so low-key. And the irony is, Monkeygate (and everything what followed) is a result of HRT (the exiled producer) trying to catch up with DW.
