I think Tusk was actually Embryo's other, more juvenile, personality. It would explain how Tusk can be shot, stabbed, or blown up repeatedly yet come back without a scratch a little while later. It also explains why the world was full of events that "just happened" to have him faceplanting into Ange's groin.
