I think you're looking at it the wrong way.

She has lived her entire life with magecraft as a substitute for her legs. She doesn't know what having legs is actually like, so giving up one's Magic Circuits permanently is probably an extremely scary prospect. Her wish to have both her legs and her circuits can easily be seen as "It sounds so amazing, but I can't in good faith give up my entire lifesake for it", which is pretty reasonable to me.

She literally goes "I can't in good faith take lives for anything other than a cause that might get me my legs back" before she starts the battle. I personally fail to see the "coldness", but I guess it's up to interpretation.

That's a good point. For one who never had legs, having those cured might just be something more like a "dream" than a "necessity", while it is the opposite for magic circuit and magecraft for her (as opposed to "normal" humans).

But she still feels quite a lot of pain and has to take medicine periodically. So she values magecraft over not only her legs, but also over being released from a constant pain she has to deal with as long as her legs aren't cured. Which is very magus and somehow cold. It is human to try to escape from the pain if you can after all.

Still, you did nuance my view of her.

Even better: athletes in games like hockey or rugby or American football injure themselves all the time and keep competing even through plenty of pain, and I don't exactly consider them cold for wanting to compete.

From what I've seen, this actually ties in pretty well with the Black Faction's theme of "healing": Chiron being summoned, the Sieg scene, Jackie's less than perfect surgical procedures, etc.
