The Soul; Material Soul and Spirit (speculation of the Scribe Mages that studied the Soul)
The soul, is actually a spiritual body mixed with two things - the Material Soul and the Spirit.
The Material Soul itself is a mass of ether compressed into a ‘something different’, which can serve as an engine to produce mana. It is also the vessel of the spirit, which contains all information about individuals. This amalgam is then put into the body, which is our physical form.
The spirit is all the information that creates ‘a person’. Their personality, experience - everything is inscribed in the spirit. Thus, if one grows spiritually/as a mage, the vessel will need to expand - in which the material soul will gather more ether, and thus a person can grow into something different from a normal human. (This seems to be the case of some Naturals, where their spirit grows with a sudden boost and their souls grow explosively in order to match them. Thus their sudden mage awakening.)
Normally, mages are those with much larger spirits than normal humans. Thus they are more attuned to the supernatural, and may harness ether into mana and bend it to their will.
However, spirit does not grow easily. For those who have already awakened as mages, it is easier - however those who are just normal humans, it is nearly impossible without some kind of explosive trigger.
Each spirit dictates the kind of affinities and magic a soul can be more attuned to. It is possible to be good at magic you are not close in affinity to, but usually that is not the case because your soul directs you into where you may specialize in naturally, as one tries various types of magecraft. Some spirits however are quite flexible and do not care much for specialization, and can be molded into taking the form of a certain specialization.
Usually the spirit dissipates upon death. Some cases of spirit not dissipating do occur - in which people can have knowledge from previous lives.
All Souls have a limit to how much mana they can produce. The bigger the Soul, however, the more mana they can produce and store.

After I pick sheets, give me the sheets in google doc with edit permissions so i can yellow them (if you haven't already submitted by google doc that is)

In the end I ended up crumbling, added 1 more slot per faction just because there were too many good submissions.
I'll post up results sometime between next week while giving these sheets some thought.
