I'll give my plus to Fate/Shifted Origins as well. I only read one other fic with that premise, but this one feels like an original and fresh take, especially where Rin dates Shirou rather early in that timeline. I hope to read more from our own Barbarossa.

    +1 to Crosswinds of Fate

It hasn't turned to shit yet, so I'll call that a job well done.

I'll go +1 on Crosswinds of Fate as well. The prequel chapter back in Nasuverse was pretty weak, but the following one back in HP-verse thankfully returned to being solid enough.

Wait, you know a better one? I mean, other than Matou Shinji and the Philosopher's Stone, since having Shinji as the protagonist is cheating.

It has to be something that makes no sense at all so we can say that Nasu is wrong.

Oh? It seems like it's been going well so far to me. Honestly, my biggest complaint is that the various and sundry characters tend to feel like they're older than the eleven years old that they're supposed to be. They feel too mature for their age. But that's a fairly common issue in fanfiction, so I'm inclined to give it a pass. Especially since it's a CYOA with the forum meta-gaming for romance half the time. :P

It had potential, but now it's just kinda mediocre.

The masses will always bring something down To their mediocre level. If Alf was just writing a fanfic it could be quite good, since he obviously knows his stuff.

Eeeeh. Alf's the one who's actually putting down the text. There's flaws in there enough that are quite apart from any votes taken.

Oh, sure, definitely flaws. Mature-ish Eleven-Year-Old Shinji doesn't help, as has been mentioned before, among others. Just saying that CYOAs pretty much always drown in their choices.

COYA is railroaded, you only get the choices you give the option for.

Until you give Write In as an option and then the readers fuck with you.

    The story of Milbunk's life.

I still maintain that it was a reaction to Milbunk's initial trolling of giving us Deermud even though pretty much everyone was saying: "Anything but deermud or iskandar plz"

Nah, to be fair I realised when the votes started coming in that changing Kayneth's first choice of catalyst wasn't going to stop it being stolen by Waver, but the votes were too substantial by then. CYOA trolling at its finest.

Having read Matou Shinji and the Philosopher's Stone initially as a fanfiction, I'm sort of glad yet torn to find out it was a CYOA. All the awesome creative divergences from fiction weren't his own, but directed a bit from fans for what they thought would be best. And it still has the option of becoming a bad end depending on the reader's choices...

Aren't CYOA just choices (besides write-in) already written by the author, just the readers get to choose which one becomes true?

Or am I wrong and they just wing it in a day/week the choice voted on most?

I expect that when each choice vreates new branches it's nearly impossible to plan the whole thing out ahead of time. If choices all loop back to a small number of conclusions along mostly-similar paths then I don't see the benefit in writing it as a CYOA anyway.

I'd certainly be writing it as I go dependant on choices made by the readers. Some railroading is probably always required, but too much kills a CYOA.
