Question: any new policy regarding the avatars? Because some of them are straight NSFW material and while I can appreciate that in the privacy of home, they are kind of a hassle when I'm browsing in public.

Yes, I could adblock the avatars but it's meaningless if they change them.
Yes, I could block the users but some of them are decent/good/great posters and I'd rather not.

Just report any old user post and give a note that their avatar needs to be changed.

Have done this before on another forum, but it's more difficult than you think to let it happen that the admin/moderator will force that user to change it.

I can remember a few cases. One was named sjack. They showed up once every few months, spewed bile, and then disappeared. In that particular cases, we just permabanned him and were done with it.

I think it's pretty clear for cases like that that it's not even worth doing the escalation system, they might as well just be banned because they clearly have no intention of taking part in the forum.,

My response to the opening of the banned thread is that even people who get banned have a certain right to privacy, and we give them the ban reason when we hit them. If they want to talk about it over Skype or when they get back on via PM, whatever, but but I feel like we should draw the line at making a spectacle out of it for everyone else's amusement.

an opinion I voiced to the rest of the team, incidentally. if someone steps out of line and gets banned, but I really disagree with hanging them out in the proverbial stockades while they are gone.
