The difference in approach makes Blade Runner and 2001 hard to directly compare imo.

For as important as 2001 is I can't in good conscious recommend it to anyone besides people who are really interested in the evolution of camera work or use of music in film.

It's actually a common and useful descriptor applied to films worth watching.
