The rest of everything is mostly minutia, to be honest, but I have to get to this, come on. This is not about 'the dangers of space travel.' One bad thing in the whole movie has to do with space. Everything else is hubris, megalomania, the arrogance of man. The same as every good Alien movie - the monster, fundamentally, is us.

I never said it was the movie's main focus, only that it makes references to them. Otherwise, what's the point of random space event at the start of the movie causing the movie to actually happen? Why have the ship mention that what Tennessee is doing is a bad idea?

Both signals function as fundamentally nothing more than a plot device. The signal in Alien has some interesting framing regarding reception, while Covenant manages to drag some implications as to how the David/Shaw relationship goes, but they aren't meaningfully different.

I watched it, on purpose. The idea of time traveling into a different timeline than the one you started in because your time traveling changed the timeline was interesting, but handled poorly. The rest I can't even defend ironically. CG Arnold is somehow more convincing than Old Arnold.

The other candidates tend to have some Achilles heel that brings them well short of KoH. For example, Blade Runner has the non-Rutger Hauer members of the bot squad, especially backflipping clown lady.

ripley was a better hero then Arnold and newt was a better sidekick then kid Conner. The aliens and the T-1000 each pick up enough style and cool points to cancel each other out.

the alien beats out the T-800 villain wise, and ripley easily beats out Kyle Reese in the hero department.
