Lately I've gotten super into Stanley Kubrick films after years of ignoring them. Time to go watch the Shining so I can interpret it 500 different ways.

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.

Watched "Game Night" this weekend. It was very, very funny! My fiancée even nearly choked with laughter at several points.
It's also surprisingly solid in terms of writing. I'd only criticise the infidelity subplot, which starts out funny but is resolved in a very weak manner, and the last act - not the scenes in themselves, which were still funny, but it relied on the extreme contrivance of a dangerous criminal who had every incentive to want to keep his identity hidden being much more merciful than he needed to be. Or, to put it in different terms, the writers had written themselves into a corner and decided to just plow through the wall.

today i see hostiles,This movie won't be for everyone. It's dark, fairly "slow" paced, and at times brutal. But at it's core, this movie is about forgiveness -- and for me, it rang true and was emotionally impactful. Christian Bale is in top form here, and his performance as well as the rest of the cast is great. It's beautifully shot and the score is haunting and harrowing. Well directed and worth watching -- just don't expect this to be a fast paced thrilling Western. It's not heavy on plot -- it's more thematic.

Who likes spaghetti westerns? Sergio Leone was certainly a genius.

The prince says that the world will be saved by beauty! And I maintain that the reason he has such playful ideas is that he is in love.

Let's be fair, he did more than just rip off Kurosawa, and Kurosawa himself was very influenced by Westerns.

Personally, while I'm a fan of the Dollars trilogy, I prefer Eastwood's Westerns. You know, "High Plains Drifter", "Pale Rider", "The Unforgiven". Or, speaking of more modern Westerns, "Tombstone", the remake of "3:10 to Yuma", "True Grit"... And I confess to loving both "Young Guns" movies.

("Maverick" deserves an honourable mention, even if it isn't really a straight Western.)

It was the novelty. Deadpool came out of nowhere, and unlike the spoof movies of the 2000's it was actually funny. Here, we know what we're getting into, which is probably why it tries to actually have a story this time, to throw people off.

But I think that X-Force scene blows anything from the first out of the water. And the opening credits was pretty good too.
