Apoc has the advantage of having non-stupid connections to Saber from an already half-established character. Case Files has the disadvantage of having naruto-OC-level Saber connections.

It's a good example of fanfiction with a lot of promise and still a lot of things to enjoy about it, but that fails to execute in a cohesive and satisfying way.

It's like blue balls fanfiction.

Trust me my balls were very much not blue when Chiron kicked Achilles in the face while shooting arrows at him, and my dick was in fact rock hard when we got 5 paragraphs on how amazing Karna is while Vlad is jumping around on a golem horse that is jumping around on flying stakes.

That was arguably the best thing though.

I don't want to sound hyper-critical of something that I haven't read yet but I'm not precisely hot about the narrator being Grey.

Even Apocrypha had the good sense to avoid making Mordred the only PoV-holder.

In a mystery, the narrator could perfectly be the person who just explains what is happening while other people solve the case.

I'm sure there's lots of interesting angel related lore but what does Luvia do.

So far, Gray isn't being super intrusive in the plot flow. She's mostly following Waver around and being taught about the same time.

Apocrypha was good Servant porn, which is all most of us ever expected out of it.

That we got Masters as memorable/memetic as Shishigou and Fiore was a bonus.

That doesn't excuse how pants-on-head silly it can be, but I suppose it's a lesson in lowered expectations.
