Hmm...I would agree with Aozaki insofar as it basically just plays like DMC4 but with some new stuff added on. That was one of my biggest complaints actually, that despite being in 2019 it still plays like a game released in 2008 since the mechanics haven't advanced much due to so much copy and pasting from 4.

Nevertheless, if you enjoyed 4 then you'll like 5 just as much if not moreso, gameplay wise at least.

I've never actually played 4, nor DmC, only the first three.

Then the only thing I can recommend is watching some gameplay footage and seeing if it's the type of thing you'd like.

It's worth pointing out that they've heavily streamlined the gameplay, meaning that the RE-holdover puzzles are completely gone as are things like Metroidvania-esque backtracking and the penultimate level Boss Rush, so if those frustrated you in the old games then that's no longer an issue.

Just completed BL1 and staring on BL2. I've started trying out other looter shooters after I quit playing Warframe due to them going balls deep into the FOMO model.

It actually seems like a really fun game! And I do appreciate those changes. The story, though... Eh...

    Spoiler:
Seriously, I can't believe we're dealing with Vergil's too-edgy-for-this-world issues AGAIN, particularly when he's already had his butt thoroughly kicked by Mundus by this point. Also, how the hell did he survive being killed by Dante in the first game? What, was Nero Angelo just a clone?
Unless DMC 4 explains all of those things, somehow.

Playing Sunless Skies. I'm glad I sacrificed dozens of my captains to fill out the map. Now, it's all a matter of figuring out how to unlock the rest of the maps, and make a living in a harsh abyssal world that does everything it can to kill me and drain my resources.

    It really doesn't.

Capcom doesn't want you to think too hard about the story, just try to enjoy the gameplay which is pretty fun.

Some finer details are explained in ~side materials~, but really, it's not like there's no merit to using one's imagination to fill in the gaps and make assumptions. The only stuff that really matters is what happens in-game, anyway.

    DMC family drama is great
especially considering the theories floating around before release

    "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice"

It's a lot of fun playing Not!Tenchu, though certainly punishing if you don't take the opportunity to go through the training with Hanpei.

I haven't ever played a Souls game before, so I couldn't comment on how it compares.

It's been kicking my ass in ways Dark Souls and Bloodborne never did, but I think that has more to do with a lot of players like me going into it with preconceived notions. Sekiro is a different breed of beast with the lack of a Stamina bar and the addition of the Posture mechanic.

You can't play Sekiro the way you played a DS or BB, and it really shows when my muscle memory gets me killed. On the flip side, though, I love being able to kill enemies with death blows by sneaking up on them or dropping from the sky. Feels so cool.

    It's super interesting.

I just wish I was any good at it.

I finally had to put the controller down and walk away from it this morning. I can't think of a single game that has ever slapped me quite as hard as this one.

I decided to buy the game after I finish Nioh. So I've restarted my playthrough because I've forgotten how the game worked. Still really fun though. I really enjoy the Odachi.

I keep getting my arse kicked as well, but it's so gooood.

I got most of the way through Nioh as well a while ago, but the repetitiveness of the enemies and the almost constant crashing just wiped me out on it. A shame, really, the combat system there was interesting as well.

I'm slowly climbing the hill in Sekiro.

I'm not a master by any means, but I'm learning when to deflect and when to dodge. I can get through most of the goons in the Hirata Estates untouched, and I feel like the drunkard and the shinobi hunter minibosses are only a matter of time. This place is littered with prosthetic tools, and I saved enough Skill Points to start picking up really good stuff like Mikiri Counter, Suppress Presence, Suppress Sound, etc.

I should give Nioh a try, too. My roommate owns it and offered to let me play it. I like the general Sengoku aesthetic, and I know Nioh has a bunch of different weapon classes like the kusarigama that I want to take for a spin. Thanks for the reminder.

At some point, I will completely the unofficial trilogy by picking up The Ghost of Tsushima when it comes out, too.
