Took advantage of a Steam sale to buy the DMC HD collection, and I decided to start with the only one I had never played to the end - DMC 2. What a game! So many good ideas, so many design missteps. It really isn't a bad game, but it's also palpably not as good as the other two in the trilogy. What a shame.

I've been "playing" Honey Select and PlayHome by Illusion. You know, the realistic porn games.

Ignoring the porn content, PlayHome has beautiful graphics. The character creator is fun.

... Now if only someone took this technology and used it to make an interactive VN. Would play.

Three Kingdoms is out. Been playing it.

Currently doing a campaign as Ma Teng. So far I've defeated the Yellow Turbans, and got my ass kicked by Lu Bu.

    It's really good.

Finally managed to snatch Ace Combat 7. Not sure if I've gotten rusty, but it seems to be quite a bit harder than its predecessor, at least early on. Still, it's unmistakably Ace Combat, and I'm loving it.The lack of broad joystick support is goddamn unforgivable, though.

So I've been playing Etrian Odyssey Nexus recently (or rather continued as I stopped playing it). And I have to say, this is probably the one I like the least from all the series.

There was always something in previous games that attracted me and made me want to complete it, but this one is so safe in everything that delivers (story and gameplay) that I honestly don't find anything that personally grabs me. It doesn't help that they reuse a lot of stuff from previous games, so if you're searching for something new, this game won't deliver it except for the Hero class, which is honestly one of my favorite classes in the whole series and I hope it reappears in whatever new project they're planning to do next. But that alone wasn't enough to grab me, which is the reason I stopped playing it a long time ago.

That said, this is one of the games I would probably recommend to newcomers in terms of gameplay only, due to how safe it is with what it delivers (except that Cernunnos fight, my god two bosses in a row was quite the difficulty spike). There's a lot of references to previous games too, but frankly none reached the point that a newcomer would feel alienated to what's happening.

well i've completed Birthright with a single casualty on a last map. Saizo died like a man trying to soften up Garon, i think it was to a crit but i might've mismanaged
i wasnt going to restart that far, first couple of turns were pretty brutal on that map
overall this plays much, much better than Awakening, very little unfair frustration

So recently I've been playing this (since yesterday). Masato Kato (the one who wrote Chrono series) is the one who write the story for this. Never played Chrono Trigger myself because I haven't been born when the game was released and never played PS1 JPRPG. But they said it's a one of legendary JPRPG like FF7.

It's a turn based system fight like traditional JPRPG with long dialogue scenes like your usual JPRPG. It is not money grabbing JPRPG even thought there is gacha system in it to get more characters, but you need 1000 stones to ten summon. You can get stones from completing missions, daily log in, side quests, and story proggression with system called rewards when the condition met (they only give you like 5-50 stones, though). Summoning other characters is not mandatory since you can get some characters through story proggression (and they are pretty strong). The characters voice are very lacking compare to say... FGO and Granblue Fantasy, but there's no stamina system there so you can proggress the story smoothly as long as your HP battery doesn't run out (the real stamina for mobile games XD).

I must say the story is not really special at the start but interesting as a country bumpkin from 300AD suddenly jump to 1100AD through a wormhole. As a mobile game It doesn't feel like a mobile game, it felt more like a handheld console game (like 3DS or PSVita). One of mobile JPRPGs that break free from mandatory gacha and farming cycle

I remember hearing years ago that the ideal port is the DS one, since it has all the bells and whistles of the PSX version but none of the disk based shenanigans.

The DS version apparently also has some tie-ins to the sort-of-sequel, Chrono Cross. Someone who played both versions might be able to say more about it.

If you have even a passing interest in JRPGs, you've got to get on that Chrono Trigger hype train. It truly lives up to the hype. There was a period where I would replay it once a year. The fact that it has multiple endings certainly helps with the replayability.

As for me, I finally beat Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and decided to punish myself with another ball-bustingly difficult ninja/samuari game in Nioh. So far, I've been playing with spears as my main weapon. It's hard to beat the combination of strong thrusts and wide sweeps, but I usually keep an axe on hand as my secondary weapon. I haven't used the ranged weapons too much, but I probably should suck it up and git gud with bows and rifles. The Souls-Diablo blend makes for an interesting experience.

I'm also eyeing Ghost of Tsushima when it comes out and picking up Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin once I get through Nioh. Dark Souls III bit me with the Souls-like bug.

I also purchased Dragon Age Inquisition now that it's dirt cheap. DAII disappointed me, but I loved the original Dragon Age Origins and the Awakening expansion for it. Here's hoping DAI has more in common with the first one than the sequel. Nioh and DAI are worlds apart, but I usually like to juggle two games with distinct flavors. When I'm bored or frustrated with one, I can jump over to the other to reinvigorate myself. I did the same thing when I juggled Bloodborne and my umpteenth playthrough of Resident Evil 4 way back when.

So my Fire Emblem conquest (get it) is going strong
made it all the way to Conquest Lunatic endgame map
    and got raped
not sure how to approach this because i'm not strong enough to do it very fast and playing slow against permanent statdrop enemies doesnt seem like that great of an idea

So i finished Conquest, had to lower difficulty on the final chapter
very sour about the whole thing, everything was going great
but there is no way i could do that chapter without so dlc fuckery or lowering difficulty so i decided to get it over with
not sure if i want to go for the last route
