On the case of social credit, it is bad news for anyone in the world, just that in China is state sponsored, while elsewhere it is done by those with cash and in secret. It is okay to wire tap your allies and people in the name of fighting against terrorists of course. But it is sin for others to do so.

However, China's extensive curation of its public image makes it hard to take anything with a pro-CCP slant as serious abroad. It is very much in style to bash on China right now, but that has less to do with an orchestrated plot by its enemies and more to do with its own behavior at home, abroad, and in dealing with natives and outsiders alike.

Put simply, they've earned their bad reputation and the press that comes with it.

This doesn't mean they don't have a valid point sometimes, but the way they act makes it impossible to tell when they do and don't, and outsiders have learned not to trust them at all for good reason...

I have sadly come to accept that bashing China is the new norm, just like how Antisemitism was a norm back then in the West. Trying to say other wise will be labelled as Wu-Mao. The uniform standards of bashing others is fine, but a heinous sin when it is done against us.

I kind of doubt copying the Unabomber will do much good for stopping, let alone reversing climate change. At this point, it seems pretty likely we'll just totally fail at it. Things might have been different even if we'd just acted a few years ago, but I don't feel it's realistic to think society's going to change centuries of practices and completely alter social, industrial, technological, agricultural, and economic structures enough to counteract what's happening.

At this point, we'd probably be better off trying to prepare and adapt to a warmed planet than trying to prevent it. Not that we'll really be able to, short of some nice tech advances.
