A government department responsible for data protection laws has shared the contact details of hundreds of journalists.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport emailed more than 300 recipients in a way that allowed their addresses to be seen by other people. The email - seen by the BBC - contained a press release about age-checks for adult websites.


Digital Minister Margot James said the incident was "embarrassing". She added: "It was an error and we're evaluating at the moment whether that was a breach of data protection law."


In the email sent on Wednesday, the department said new rules would offer "robust data protection conditions", adding: "Government has listened carefully to privacy concerns." A DCMS Spokesperson said: "In sending a news release to journalists an administrative, human error meant email addresses could be seen by others. DCMS takes data privacy extremely seriously and we apologise to those affected."


It is the second time this month a government department has made a mistake of this kind.

On one hand Boris Johnson never deserves anything nice. On the other, I'd love to see him take power and fail just as hard as May did because no matter what, half of Parliament still hates the idea.

Oh, but for him, failing is success. Since he's a Hard Brexiteer, crashing out of the EU is fine with him. Waiting out the clock actually works for his position, unlike May, who wanted nothing to do with it but got stuck with the job of handling Brexit anyway. Having someone like him in the position would likely see the basic goals of everyone at the negotiating table change. The EU would be harder pressed to concede to British demands because the chief negotiator literally would prefer to just screw the EU over, even at the expense of his own economy. Likewise those looking for a Soft Brexit are likely not going to be able to push as effectively for a deal since Johnson doesn't care either way so long as he gets a full break from the Union. Johnson as PM means both Irelands get screwed harder. It also puts another right-wing, nationalist populist in power, continuing the current trend.

Support the ban or the chemical? Also, maybe, people are just stupid, like my coworkers who keep causing the coffee machine to malfunction by manually closing the pod receptacle, instead of pressing the close button, despite there being instructions stuck on the machine telling them not to close it manually. Of course, those same coworkers microwave cup noodles, despite the cup saying to pour in already hot water and not microwave the Styrofoam cup. I don't really care for the latter, as it would just kill them faster, rather than inconvenience me.
