well, it seems europe, or at least France, will intensify the vigilance over the weapon trafic and be more exigent with the terrorism prevention pollicy.
ah yeah, Paris yesterday was REALLY crowded.
How'd these guys get a rocket launcher?
And also that guy that correctly identified that these heavily armed men were carrying kalashnikovs. And thought they were police.
Also. French woman who works opposite me (wish she did not) - her response to that news. "Meh, it's Charlie Hebdo." "It's not a terror attack." "It's Charlie Hebdo, someone was gonna do it at some point."

BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
I'm actually kind of worried at how this will affect the discourse on a planned Islam law in Austria (yes nobody involved gets the irony of austria making a law to target a specific religious group). Addressing radicalization of youth is a good thing but I'm not on board with applying it to only a single religious group that does not have the numbers or political pull to reasonably defend itself, be it moderate or radical.
that said good job, nobody lit a mosque on fire as retort here

With the incident at the Hebdo offices, I'm pretty sure it has been well established already, in the whole world, that you don't kill someone who simply made fun of you.
Because that's how the whole terrorism incident sounds like: A person getting wasted because he made fun of someone.
Uh, regardless of that I think crazy and fanatic people still gonna kill people and do their thing.

I believe in people being able to have civil disagreements, it worked in most other threads about politics before.
We had a thread about the US elections that never had to be closed, one about the Ukraine situation, one about Gaza, etc.

What people have to understand is that people's faith is very important to them. I am not excusing these men's actions which lead the death of many and themselves but I am simply saying that we must try and understand what drove them to their actions. At this point I'm finding it hard to tell weather the west is getting what it deserves for years of colonisation ect or that Islamist extremists are kicking back far to hard which causes more hate which will encourage more attacks.

Imagine if someone insulted something you really cared about and how you would feel basically.
i wouldnt kill anybody, personally

Yeah same but these people did. One problem is that a lot of people can't draw the line between satire and something to be insulted by. Part of me thinks that this was just something that may have tipped them over the edge.
I bought the next issue of Charlie Hebdo
It's not really about feeling insulted by it, it's more that they were essentially carrying out vigilante justice from their point of view. A crime was committed and went unpunished in their eyes.
It sounds like a dumb distinction to make but essentially you aren't going to be able to "imagine" what it means or whatever, it's not something you can really empathize with if you are not slavishly devoted to a religion or ideology to the point where an insult is no longer an insult but rather a crime that needs to be judged.
