What show are you referring to with the "lesbian heroine and environmentalist message"? DarliFra?
I admittedly haven't been keeping up to date with it (hit a major backlog in my anime-watching as of late), but last I heard one of the biggest criticisms of that show was a lack of LGBTQ characters.
