Joke's on me, I guess, as my post appears (contrary to the sentence I quoted) to be quite easily misunderstood.

I also learn runes, but decided to try lighter VN so I read Flyable Heart. It's your generic school-life harem but it's pretty funny and mostly simple Japanese.
I actually don't care about understanding every line as long as I get the gist of it. I do it mainly to practice the grammar I do know, and kanji readings (which I memorize independently).

Personally, the hardest thing to adapt to in FSN for me is the conversational part, from decoding Sakura's apologetic behemoths to Lancer who leaves me puzzled every time with his decidedly non-textbook "what did you say you f*cker" way of putting things. Thankfully the center stage guys, especially Archer, talk in a mostly (though sometimes very exagerrated) textbook way. Shinji's is quite annoying, too (but then, he's supposed to be).

That, and the obsolete grammar that sometimes finds its way into Servant fight descriptions.
