The shatter effect doesn't look like feathers.

I checked his Overedge again. It doesn't actually show feathers when it shatters. Rather the way the pieces disappear resemble it.

Yeah now that I've got the pictures to look at, it looks more like glass.

I still prefer it to ufotable's rendition of it. It's too smooth and looks too much like a real Noble Phantasm when they're supposed to be brittle imitations.

It's probably easiest for him in UBW since he's leeching experience from Archer, plus comes to the realization that the only thing he's good for is Projection.

It probably has more to do with trying to project too much too fast through just one circuit, but really he's just being a drama queen.
