Oh, thank you!
I like the element of choice where we choose based on what I feel about the character/choice at the moment. But, if it will ruin the story, then I won't risk it.
Apart from Bea, who's basically a heroine to begin with, several of the villains inch toward antihero, as the routes go on. While in the spinoffs, they jump right to it. Also, apart from maybe Eleonore, none of the female LDO members come across as racist.
I might be biased, but in terms of the VN's main story, I prefer AEF over AA, unless of course, you prefer weird crops and long kisses that can get people pregnant, though admittedly, that's not as bad as dragons and dolphins. Obviously, AA has the side stories. I doubt that it will happen any time soon due to the first anime being so terrible, but I'm hoping for an anime of IKaBey. Hey, it only took F/SN 3 tries to get it right. Even more confused secondaries!

Obviously, "sought the truth" will lead to something different, but does "danced to the mercurial tune" add anything new, or does it just end like in AEF with Lotus being worried that the upcoming war will delay his book series and Reinhard showing up and telling him to remember Rea and go to Japan?
If you're already there you may as well pick the option yourself and see, and spoiler the part for people in the thread who haven't read it yet. Sought the truth leads to the new ending. The other option doesn't.
The fourth and fifth side stories add so much to the main story I can't pick the version with porn scenes in good conscience just because they have them. It's not the same with F/SN's Realta Nua for me at least.

So I just finished watching the anime this morning.
Pretty satisfying overall, but I don't really get how Ren won at the end. So, he gets stabbed by Reinhard, has his guillotine around Reinhard's neck but can't cut through. Then Rea shows up with Isaak and Ren suddenly has enough strength to finish him off? I could understand if it was just the usual "my friends are here, I can't lose!" shonen power up, but Rea implies that Isaak being there specifically had something to do with it.
Also, what happened in the last scene? Did Ren become a god alongside Marie, and what's up with Marie reincarnating as a little girl at the end?

It was Rea using her Sonnenkind (Sonnenkind is like the core engine of Valhalla, to speak, so she made the souls flow out) powers to get the souls out of Reinhard. She could only do that because Isaak couldn't interfere, because he had given up due to Reinhard not acknowledging him or asking him for help.
Because Reinhard lost his souls, Ren won
And Marie's universe allows for multiple gods to coexist. Everyone reincarnated (including the LDO) and Reinhard still has his powers (he's just unaware of them in her new world at the moment). Loli Marie is basically Marie's human avatar (like Karl was Mercurius' avatar). Ren is now immortal and wants to basically be Marie's knight, protecting her world.
As a bonus (you didn't ask, but it wasn' explained in the show):
Those blue wing things Ren manifested in the beach are just an easter egg and reference to Ren's design in the upcoming mobile game, Dies irae Pantheon.
When Mercurius was talking about emanation and taking God's throne, the dude with angel wings that was dead was Mercurius' predecessor: Norose Satanael (the god from the 3rd Heaven. Mercurius is 4th Heaven and Marie is 5th Heaven) from Paradise Lost (an old VN written by Masada)

Thanks man. The stuff about Reinhard losing his souls didn't seem clear at all to me from how the scene was depicted. With Marie, isn't it kind of creepy that she manifests as a little girl and is presumably still in love with Ren? I get that they wanted to visually show the difference between her goddess and human forms, but couldn't they have done that without making Ren look like a lolicon?
Even with magic, it's said that the maximum life span of a human is 300. However, do you ever see someone like that die of "natural causes"? In Kasumi route, that's how Trifa claimed Lisa died, but it was obviously just to cover up his own actions.
Looking back at the Reinhard fight in the anime, it does show Reinhard's souls leaving him and returning to their original bodies. It's just that, as the anime only shows that scene after Ren deals the final blow, it looks like the souls are leaving because Ren killed him rather than the other way around. Reversing the order of those two scenes would've made it much easier to understand IMO.
It's not like they die because of old age or something. It's soul gets old instead of body, and the older soul become, the stronger their 自壊衝動 (Jikai shoudou, Self-destruction impulse, dunno how it is translated in English version) become, so they begin kind of subconsciously wanting to die. It's hinted that some of LDO members actions (especially Rusalka's, since she is oldest except Mercurius) are happen because of that impulse. So from certain point of view Trifa didn't lied about Lisa.Even with magic, it's said that the maximum life span of a human is 300. However, do you ever see someone like that die of "natural causes"? In Kasumi route, that's how Trifa claimed Lisa died, but it was obviously just to cover up his own actions.
Me and Dies Irae #1, not gonna talk about the plot for now but I finally understand that their Ahnenerbe is basically RM and formed by their desire, anyway:
big, uninteresting, crudely written impression

Well, my objections to skipping so much aside, great taste with Beatrice but unfortunately her appearances are few and little. She appears in the extra story epilogue for Marie's route, but you might not want to gun for that without reading least some of the route itself as well. She also appears near the end of Rea's route in my favorite scene of the entire VN and that's neat.
Can't tell from your post but if you've at least skimmed through Kasumi's route and understand Trifa's motivations then you should be fine (also stuff about Ren and Shirou's childhood is kinda important but if you have a rough recollection of that it's good). Marie's route is super good and you'll want to not skip too much of it but if you must, don't skip scenes with Reinhard or scenes with Shirou (those tend to involve Bey anyway so).
Rea route has a lot of Rusalka goodness and I'd say to really not skip anything, but at least sit for Riza's scenes with Eleonore, it's another one of my favorite scenes.

Oh no, skipping is just a hyperbole of me, what I do is read them really fast without immersions, not like skipping things outright or mashing enter until I get the scene I want to see. I do play Kasumi route first before Kei, it just didn't have anything really interesting for me to mention beside the plot. And I rarely do that with LDO members anyway, mostly doing so when I am on the slice of life part of the game.
Ah, so Beatrice is the True Assassin of this game.
But much cuter, yes.

Has anyone thought Dies Irae would make for an awesome fighting game? Shirou's super would totally be dropping a truck full of liquid nitrogen on his opponent and then ramming them with his motorcycle like he did against Wilhelm...
I think it is totally Fighting Game the VN.
It's like BlazBlue, but the story is not lame.
And with an actual fight scene, not beating a dumb bot.
Even though it mostly the song and artwork and chuuni lines do the fight.
They should Kickstarter for a Fighting Game instead of anime. wtf they were thinking?
I mean, I want to body people using Beatrice with my mad reflects and spam cheap attacks.
Reading back, there is a mobage in development too? Hell yes, let me pour my money for Beatrice.
But if she is not an SSR then they give a total disservice for the character, but it would be hard to roll Beatrice tho what to do...
Why are the merchandises for this franchise so little? where is my Beatrice figurine?
Like,
c'mon.
GIVE ME BEATRICE.
