I don't know, Fate had Angra Mainyu threatening to unleash hell on earth and wipe out humanity, Apocrypha had two distinct plots that would have had global impact, and Strange Fake is only happening because Zelretch is trying to suss out a worldline where the events in Snowfield don't end in worldwide destruction and extinction.

The only difference is that the stories themselves focus more on the characters than on "We have to stop x to save the planet."

Yeah you can't really tell a character-driven story in "character beats up a lineup of other characters with minimal dialogue every 3 fights or so" format.

You are right. That's probably why the destruction doesn't look as inminent. It doesn't look as simple to wipe out humanity though, since even if the protags fail there is a chance Counter Guardians would show up, at least for anything that doesn't involve beings like Archetype (CF already summoning Ryougi) and ORT in FSF which might not be enough.
The priest was waiting for the arrival of the princess, who was only an enemy of all of them.
For the priest, the golden princess was the one and only main heroine.
Everyone else was unworthy of his respect, no matter how strong they were.

Haven't read all of FGO translated yet, especially not arc endings which would have the stuff that actually matters, but does Lev say stuff about his motives?

Considering the singularities had already existed, could he be another Zepia, trying to steer the future off by just making a huge clusterfuck out of the past?

He kind of is oo much of a cool guy to just be ebil&acculy a demon, is the thing.

The obvious motive would be that as a demon he would be fulfilling the desires of humanity (which can be seen as working towards Overcount 1999 in a way), but it seems like there would have to be more to it.

Pretty sure he mentions that he's working for a mysterious and totally not easily identified glorious king.

Yeah, but how did a demon become such an influential person that he was made the second in command of Sliders, never being detected, and so? He was clearly pretty deeply ingrained in them, maybe there was an original person that got possessed?

There's a bunch of other stuff in the game that seems like Chekov's guns, like Olga's third summon not being specified, demiservants being Cheldea's SIXTH experiment, Mashu being all around a weird person and honestly making me think she's a homunculus the first time she turns up, the game specifying that Saber won the fifth war like it matters, all the stuff about Olga's dad, United Nations being at all mentioned as important, and there's totally going to be a lot more of that when I get to read the whole thing.

    What?

    demiservants being Cheldea's SIXTH experiment,
The other 5 were listed before the game even came out, they're stuff like the Servant summoning system, Chaldeas, etc

the game specifying that Saber won the fifth war like it matters
If you mean in the Fuyuki singularity it matters because you're looking for the grail.

Also Lev's from Clock Tower 2015 (which I haven't gotten around to reading yet) so I dunno it's probably in there.

Who Lev is is in the Clock Tower thing. He's a guy with three personalities, Flauros being one of them, and unless I'm misremembering in other timelines one of them committed suicide to prevent the events of Grand Order.

    The Flauros personality committed suicide.
Also it seems someone did a switcharoo on Lev or something because everyone keeps saying "THAT'S NOT THE DUDE I KNEW!!!!"

Ye, I remember that. It's a totally fine option.

I feel like "魔法" (the special stuff) wins the right to "magic" just because, come on, it's 魔法. That's as "magic" as you can get.

魔術 is harder, I guess sorcery if you insist on using real words, and magecraft if you don't and want something that sounds like "magus". Thaumaturgy and The Art are right out. Also "magic/true magic" is a really confusing combination.
