Is it important to play Kagetsu tohya? I've watched a couple scenes on youtube like red demon god and dawn. So can I just watch the whole thing there instead of playing it?

I always go with gamepad for emulations, just to get into the feel even if keyboard would otherwise be enough.

When it comes to melty just use whatever controls you are already used to. Like I use a ps4 controller for it now. But if you can use a keyboard or an arcade stick its fine. I personally don't like keyboard cause I cant shortcut special inputs like 623 or do other techniques (like tiger knee'ing an input) with ease.

If you think he'll like it enough then DEEN is good because he'll get Saber's background and context, along with Gil and a few other characters, before getting into Zero. Plus it's easier to watch before having become accustomed to UBW and Zero's newer animation than after.
